AMARA POV. “Wood?” I heard Ace’s voice behind me and Alex and I simultaneously turned around to see my shirtless husband standing in the doorway of the house. My eyes travelled over his sweaty chest and I swallowed. Why did he have to look so hot this morning? My brain stilled. What the hell did I just think? I realized with a shock and I looked away from the smug look that he had on his face. It was as though he knew exactly what I was thinking but luckily Alex’s voice came to my rescue. “Milton.” Alex greeted back. Alex briefly glanced at me before he stepped towards Ace and stuck out his hand. “Congratulations with the wedding.” Alex said and Ace raised an eyebrow. He too briefly looked at me before he reached out and took Alex’s hand. “Thank you.” He said and they released their hands. “I would have congratulated you two earlier but this whole situation kind of caught all of us off guard.” Alex said and I groaned internally but Ace smirked at Alex as he came to stand next to me a
AMARA POV. “Come on, Lena. Pick up the phone!” I spoke to myself, holding my phone to my ear as the ringing tone continued to her side. No answer. Again. This was strange. I thought she was going to be here for at least a few more days and help me to understand things in their werewolf world, but she left. I twirled the phone in my hands as my thoughts travelled from my friend, to breakfast earlier. Somehow with Alex being here, I felt so much better. It was so good to see him smiling and laughing again as we talked while we ate. Even after Ace joined us, it was a merry affair. I didn’t know if it was knowing what he was, or they were, or if it had something to do with my brother but I found myself utterly relaxed and there was a brief moment that Ace reached for my hand in my lap and brought it up to his lips to kiss it. My skin tingled as I watched his lips caress my skin before lowering it to hold my hand on his thigh. I should have taken my hand from him then but I couldn’t bring
AMARA POV. It has been a few days since we missed the flight to our honeymoon due to Lena showing up and the breakfast with Alex. Since our talk, Alex and I have resumed our sister and brotherly relationship and I was beyond grateful for it but Emily wasn’t. Apparently, she threw a hissy fit and threatened me with a phone call to stay away from Alex and before I could tell her to go to hell, Alex had snatched the phone out of her hand and apologised before cutting the line. It wasn’t long before Alex phoned back from his own phone and said that he and Emily had broken up and although I was sad about it because they were high school sweet hearts like Jared and I were, I couldn’t help but feel like it was better this way. Emily was letting her anger towards me for dumping her brother, get way out of control and the biggest mistake she did was trying to tell Alex what to do. It warmed my heart when he told me that he chose me over her and that if she didn
ACE POV. I looked down at my watch as I waited for Amara in the front foyer of the pack house. I was dressed in a tuxedo, fiddling nervously with my tie. I scowled at myself as I willed my hands to leave the wretched thing that was starting to feel as though it was going to strangle me. I didn’t even know why I was so nervous. ‘Yes, you do.’ Coal snickered at the back of my mind and I shushed him, but he was right. I wanted this night to go smoothly and hoped to win some favour with Amara by taking her to this opera. My parents didn’t really invite us to the neighbouring pack meeting. They were going alone until I heard about the show that was playing nearby. I suggested it to my parents and they loved the idea so they arranged for all of us to go. By leaving early give us ample time to watch the opera and go to the dinner meeting with the neighbouring pack afterwards. I just hope that Amara didn’t freak out with more werewolves around although, I had to admit that she has taken to t
AMARA POV. “Jared Turner?” A voice spoke behind us. I looked back and my eyes nearly popped out of my skull when I saw my former fiancé standing slightly turned away from me. “Yes, and this is my date, Claire. My sister gave me tickets as a birthday present and I couldn’t resist in coming out tonight.” Jared said. A shot echoed through me. Oh God. I have completely forgotten about his birthday and I have never missed it before. He was smiling at that Christine woman that just photographed us. My heart beat furiously when I saw that he held an arm around… was that, Claire!? I thought to myself as I studied the black-haired girl that smiled happily at his side. She was at school with us and always told me how lucky I was and that she wished that she had a boyfriend like Jared and so on… looks like she got what she wanted, I guess. I watched the man I loved and cherished deeply that I had hurt so badly, his arm around Claire's waist and he smiled at her before he kissed her for the ca
AMARA POV.I looked back and saw Ace speaking into his phone. He had an angry frown between his eyes and I wondered if it had anything to do with Jared being here. Speaking of Jared... he and Claire had just come through the front doors and before we could make eye contact, I turned to face the front again.I startled a moment later when I felt an arm wrap around my waist and for a moment, I thought it was Jared, but it was Ace. He didn’t have a long phone conversation it seems. “And?” I asked and he looked down at me. “I’ll tell you later. Why don’t we enjoy the show.” Ace said and urged me on to walk forward.I sighed but walked on. It didn’t surprise me when the hostess took one look at our tickets and indicated to us to take the elevator up to the box seats where they had the very best view of the theatre. His parents walked on ahead in front of us as we followed them and I noted that my hand hadn't left his and it felt comforting to feel his big hand in hers and it disturbed her
AMARA POV. "Jared!" His name passed my lips before I could stop it. He was standing alone as others passed him on their way to the exit. No sign of Claire anywhere. "Is this really what you want, Amara?" he asked as I stood next to Ace at the entrance to our booth. I could feel Ace tense next to me when Jared spoke. My eyes were tearing up again as I saw the heart broken look on his face as his eyes darted to my hand that was holding onto Ace’s arm and I tried to pull my hand back but Ace clamped it tightly to his side and I let it be. Not wanting to make a fuss with so many people still walking past us and with Ace’s parents standing behind us. “Is it, Amara?” Jared asked again and I swallowed nervously as my heart thundered in my chest. I became aware of eyes staring at me from behind. I knew Ace’s parents were looking at me in anticipation but so was Ace. “Amara?” Jared prodded me on, waiting for an answer. "Yes." I answered as I didn’t know what else to say. I was about to wal
SLOANE POV. I watched as Jared stormed away from the Amara and Ace. I had to admit that it felt satisfying to see Jared break Amara’s heart by admitting that he cheated on her… that meant that he only had to get rid of Ace… then there would be nothing standing in his way to get Amara. I watched her walk away with Ace with the Milton seniors behind them and I follow. To my disappointment, I see them get into a helicopter and disappear out of sight. I stood there, trying to think of my next move all the while my father’s voice keeps echoing inside of my head. Warning me to stay away… I shake my head to clear it of his voice. I knew I shouldn’t do this, but I couldn’t help myself. After seeing Amara again, I realized that my feelings for her have never gone away, the medication only buried it deep down. I looked towards the sky where the chopper disappeared to. Tomorrow, I’ll go back to that little bakery where I found out that she worked. It was a perfect setting to see her regularly…
