AMARA POV.My heart cried out in protest as I walked slowly down the white polished tiled floors, in a white gown that would have been any woman’s dream dress that hugged all the right places. Everyone's eyes were on me, and it made me very uncomfortable. Only my brother and a few friends came to see me through this day, even though I knew they didn’t approve. It made me feel a little bit better knowing that neither did I… especially as all of the other guests were eyeing me up and down as though I was worthy of whatever this was. I was never one for being the centre of attention or had I ever been one to worry about my looks, but Clarissa Milton had brought in her personal stylist to do my hair and make-up and she had insisted on having my dress custom made, no matter how much I protested against it. At least I managed to put my foot down when it came to my long black hair. I wanted a style that flowed easily around me and not pulled up into some kind of tight fashion bun that would
AMARA POV. I snapped back into the present right when the official was starting to address me. Gratefully, there weren't any vows to be exchanged to which I was thankful because that was not going to happen in this ceremony or on any other gatherings in the future. All that this was, was a simple ‘I DO’, sign papers and hopefully leave as soon as possible, but I also knew it wasn’t going to be that easy since they invited most of their family and acquaintances to be here and I was already told that it was an excellent opportunity to meet them all. "Do you, Amara Wood, take this man, Ace Milton to be your husband? To respect and be faithful until the day you die?" The room hall was so silent you would have been able to hear a pin drop from the very back and I cursed internally to why everyone was so damned quiet? I stared into Ace’s cold light blue eyes. I hadn't even noticed that we were facing each other, until I felt the strangest sensation against my skin as I also realised that
AMARA POV. I had to remind herself why I was doing all of this. I had to fight down the feelings that flowed through me when his warm lips touched the side of my temple, or the way his fingers held my hips. I was doing all of this for my brother, Alex, and Jared. Because Alex had done so much to look after me after our parents passed away. He deserved to have success in life. Milton House really was a beautiful place. On the outside it reminded Amara of a royal manor that was hidden away in secret, the trees surrounding it shielding it from the outside world with the many little houses that sat protected withing its protected circle. Finally, the party was over, and I was utterly exhausted. Emotionally and physically. My face hurt after all the forced smiles she had to put on. As soon as Ace and I re-entered the huge house of his, I kicked off my shoes and scooped them up with my one hand before turning to Ace. “Could you please show me to my room? I need to get this dress off," I
AMARA POV. I had to admit that I slept well in my new bed. I have been tossing and turning until the early hours of the morning before I fell into an exhausted dreamless sleep and now, I was awake and hungry. My hunger turned into twisted knots when I remembered why I was sleeping in a new bed and my hunger went away. I got up and made my way to the attached bathroom. Even though I couldn’t fall asleep last night, I was too tired to shower, and I badly needed a hot shower before facing the world. Before facing Ace, who was now my husband. I walked out with a bathrobe wrapped around my body and I sighed in relief as I felt slightly better after the nice hot shower. I made my way over towards the other side of the bed where a kind girl from last night brought in one of my bags with clothes in. I once again thought how strange these people were. They were polite and respectful, but I still wondered why some of them referred to me as Luna? The girl that brought me my bag also called me
AMARA POV. When I came into the dining room, Mr and Mrs Milton were already sitting at the breakfast table. It was quite a long table that had space for about thirty more people, and I thought it weird that there were no one else that was seated. I was under the impression that others also lived inside the manor. “Ah, Amara. There you are.” Clarissa said and motioned for me to take a seat. I looked over the assorted items that were being service and I thought it to be a bit much. There was a little of something of everything. “Hope you slept well?” Clarissa asked and I nodded as I reached for a jug of juice and started to fill the glass in front of me. “Yes, thank you. The room is very beautiful.” I said and Clarissa looked satisfied with my answer, and she too poured herself some juice before looking towards the door that I just came through. "What is taking Ace so long?" Clarissa asked as she looked to her watch before ticking her fingers on the table. "Maybe he forgot about the
AMARA POV. "All these clothes are so expensive," I grumbled as I was forced to model another outfit in front of my new mother-in-law. She looked at the pretty summers dress with a thoughtful eye before she nodded her head. I sighed tiredly. Clarissa has taken me to one of the most expensive boutiques in the city. I couldn’t understand why we couldn’t just go into town to get a few simple outfits, but she insisted on the hour drive to the city. And the other thing that annoyed me was why we had to have a driver? One I could have understood but two? Really? We could have driven it by ourselves and on top of that, they seem to follow us everywhere we went. I briefly wondered if Ace had put them up to it in order to make sure that I didn’t change my mind and run off to somewhere. "I really like this one dear. The colour complements your skin, and the cut enhances your curves," Clarissa said in approval. The dress was a red colour. Two thin straps rested off the shoulder and the skirt fo
AMARA POV. I smiled as I looked out of the tainted car window at the busy street of our little town. It was almost closing time, and everyone was hurrying along to close up their stores and go home. We were close to the little flower shop that I worked at with Pete and I remembered that I still needed to have a little word with him. “Do you mind if we quickly made a stop at Flower Alley? I asked. Clarissa gave me a brief look before she nodded and ordered the driver to make the stop. “Thank you, I’ll be right back.” I said and got out. I nearly fainted when two people that she didn't want to see at the moment, walked out of the flower shop. My eyes moved to Jared's first, but he wouldn't look at. And Emily as always was quick to say something insulting and hurtful. "Look at who we have here. The new Mrs. Milton. My, my, Amara you certainly have settled into your new life quickly. I just never thought you were so shallow to marry for money," Emily said. I stared at my best friend in
AMARA POV.Ace’s head immediately snapped towards my bedside table and his eyes narrowed before looking back at me. I ducked out from under his arms that caged me in, and I sighed in relief. His closeness was doing something to me, and I was glad for this little interruption. I quickly walked over to my bed and opened the drawer, and the ring tone filled the room loudly. The name Lena stood written across the screen, and I looked around at Ace. “Do you mind? I have a call.” I said and I swear I he grunted animalistically. “Who is it?” He demanded and reached for my still ringing phone, but I stepped out of his reach and held it up for him to see instead. “It’s a friend, okay?” I said and he narrowed his eyes at me as he read the name. Whose name did he expect to see on my phone? Jared’s. Fat chance of him calling me.“Can you please leave?” I asked and he squared his shoulders and without another word, he turned towards the door and left. I was about to sigh in relief when he turned a
