AMARA POV.
I had to admit that I slept well in my new bed. I have been tossing and turning until the early hours of the morning before I fell into an exhausted dreamless sleep and now, I was awake and hungry. My hunger turned into twisted knots when I remembered why I was sleeping in a new bed and my hunger went away. I got up and made my way to the attached bathroom. Even though I couldn’t fall asleep last night, I was too tired to shower, and I badly needed a hot shower before facing the world. Before facing Ace, who was now my husband.
I walked out with a bathrobe wrapped around my body and I sighed in relief as I felt slightly better after the nice hot shower. I made my way over towards the other side of the bed where a kind girl from last night brought in one of my bags with clothes in. I once again thought how strange these people were. They were polite and respectful, but I still wondered why some of them referred to me as Luna? The girl that brought me my bag also called me that and before I could ask her, she was out the door.
I walked over to the place where I was sure she had left the bag, but it was gone. I frowned in confusion as I looked at the empty spot on the floor next to the bed.
"Looking for something?" A deep voice asked from behind me as I felt a warm body press up against my own from behind. I startled but for some reason I didn’t react or move. A shiver ran down my back as my body absorbed his heat as though I was freezing, and I swallowed inaudibly before taking a steadying breath. I hated being this close to him. I hated him so much but being so close to him as I was now, was messing with my mind and making me feel things that I haven’t felt before. I steeled my nerves and forced myself to ignore the intruding feelings. I wasn’t supposed to feel this way. I was betraying Jared all over again.
"What did you want? And what did you do to my bag?" I demanded cooly.
I had it taken to our room, where it should be.” He said close to my ear, and I swallowed again when his hot breath fanned over the skin of my neck. “Well, you can just go and get it because I am staying here!” I said firmly but he chuckled in my ear. “Oh, are you now?” He purred in my ear before continuing. "That little stunt with my parents didn't work. Instead, you only managed to make me angry," He said even more closely to my ear as he wrapped an arm around my waist and moved his lips to the skin just below the ear. Goosebumps erupted all over my skin, and I tried hard not to lean into him.
"A-am I supposed to feel afraid of you?" I asked and I chanced a slight look at him when he lifted his head from my neck. Did he just sniff me? I thought briefly before our eyes met. “You scare me as much as the teddy bear I had as a kid, now let go of me and bring me back my bag." I demanded and I felt a little proud of myself for making my voice sound strong.
"I don't think I want to do that.” He purred once again in my ear, and I closed my eyes as I turned to face in front of me again. “I can make you forget all about that Jared Turner and I’ll even have you begging me for more.” He said confidently and my anger flared up. Taking him by surprise, I elbowed him in the ribs before I turned around to face him and shoved him back, hard. Ace uttered a pained grunt as I hit him with my elbow, but my shoving did nothing. He barely even moved, and it felt as if I was pushing against a warm hard wall. My anger flared up again because I didn’t seem to have any effect on him. "Get out of my room!" I demanded. "Don’t ever come in here again unless I give you permission. Do you hear me? And you can rest assured that that day will never come when I invite you in.” I spat at him. A dark look crossed his face, and I gasped when I could have sworn that I saw a flashing of blue in his eyes, but it was gone before I could make sure.
"We'll see about that, Amara. I can be very persuasive, and I always get what I want. You are a perfect example of it." he said lowly that had the back of my hairs stand up at the invisible threat that laid thereunder.
Ace pinned me with a glare, before the door suddenly opened that caught my attention and I didn’t even see him move. His one hand grabbed me at the back of my neck and the other around the waist and he pressed his body against mine before he pressed a kiss to my lips, slipping his tongue into my shocked, open mouth. My brain stopped and for a moment so did my heart. This was our first kiss that went past the lips. My lips tingled and so did the butterflies in my stomach. Before I realised what was going on, he ended the kiss and drew back his head and I felt myself leaning in for more until my eyes opened and looked straight into Ace’s smug light blue ones. “See, I told you I could be very persuasive.” He said huskily and for a moment he looked to be affected just as much as I was, but he didn’t wait for my answer. He let me go and walked out of the room, my eyes following his movement and I suddenly felt cold as his body heat left mine.
Only when Ace was out of the room did I notice someone else standing in the open doorway. It was the girl from last night. She had pink cheeks and looked very embarrassed for intruding. “I-I’m sorry, I should have knocked… I.” She stuttered and this got my brain moving again. “No, no it is fine. I was just about to get ready for the day.” I said and I looked around again when I realised that I had nothing to wear. “As soon as I can find something to wear that is.” I mumbled lowly to myself and to my surprise, the girl came rushing forward and showed me towards one of the wardrobes and opened it show an array of dresses that looked expensive. “How did you…?” I started to ask as I wondered how she could have heard me, but I shrugged it off. “The Luna asked me to help get you dressed for a private morning breakfast with them.” She spoke. Again, with the Luna business, but this time she must have referred Ace’s mother as Luna. Before I could ask, she pulled a dress from the wardrobe and the light blue summer dress drew my attention. She handed it to me, and I studied it. It was beautiful. I held it up to my body in front of the full-length mirror and was impressed. It was my size. The dress was flowing knee length, and the V was decently covered across the breast area and had thin shoulder straps. The girl dug inside the wardrobe and brought out a pair of blue flats that matched the dress and it was also in my size. “Where did all this come from, I asked in awe and the girl smiled. “We were instructed to stock the wardrobes with clothing a few days before your arrival. There were too many to be packed away in the main bedroom, so we put the rest away in here if you were to look for more selections.” The girl said shyly, and my mouth hanged open. “These were bought for me?” I asked shocked and the girl nodded, and I didn’t know what to say.
“Will you be wearing that dress?” She asked and I realised I was still holding the dress in front of me, and I nodded quickly. “Would you like me to help you?” She asked, which was odd, but so was everyone I have met here. “No thank you, I can manage.” I said and the girl nodded. As she neared the still open door, I realised that I never got her name. “Uhm… I never got your name.” I said and the girl turned around a little shocked but smiled shyly. She must be around sixteen or so if I had to guess. “Macy.” She said before taking the door handle in her hand. Thank you, Macy, you can call me Amara.” I spoke and the girl smiled at me. “I’ll be waiting outside to take you to breakfast as soon as you are finished.” She said before closing the door behind her.
AMARA POV. When I came into the dining room, Mr and Mrs Milton were already sitting at the breakfast table. It was quite a long table that had space for about thirty more people, and I thought it weird that there were no one else that was seated. I was under the impression that others also lived inside the manor. “Ah, Amara. There you are.” Clarissa said and motioned for me to take a seat. I looked over the assorted items that were being service and I thought it to be a bit much. There was a little of something of everything. “Hope you slept well?” Clarissa asked and I nodded as I reached for a jug of juice and started to fill the glass in front of me. “Yes, thank you. The room is very beautiful.” I said and Clarissa looked satisfied with my answer, and she too poured herself some juice before looking towards the door that I just came through. "What is taking Ace so long?" Clarissa asked as she looked to her watch before ticking her fingers on the table. "Maybe he forgot about the
AMARA POV. "All these clothes are so expensive," I grumbled as I was forced to model another outfit in front of my new mother-in-law. She looked at the pretty summers dress with a thoughtful eye before she nodded her head. I sighed tiredly. Clarissa has taken me to one of the most expensive boutiques in the city. I couldn’t understand why we couldn’t just go into town to get a few simple outfits, but she insisted on the hour drive to the city. And the other thing that annoyed me was why we had to have a driver? One I could have understood but two? Really? We could have driven it by ourselves and on top of that, they seem to follow us everywhere we went. I briefly wondered if Ace had put them up to it in order to make sure that I didn’t change my mind and run off to somewhere. "I really like this one dear. The colour complements your skin, and the cut enhances your curves," Clarissa said in approval. The dress was a red colour. Two thin straps rested off the shoulder and the skirt fo
AMARA POV. I smiled as I looked out of the tainted car window at the busy street of our little town. It was almost closing time, and everyone was hurrying along to close up their stores and go home. We were close to the little flower shop that I worked at with Pete and I remembered that I still needed to have a little word with him. “Do you mind if we quickly made a stop at Flower Alley? I asked. Clarissa gave me a brief look before she nodded and ordered the driver to make the stop. “Thank you, I’ll be right back.” I said and got out. I nearly fainted when two people that she didn't want to see at the moment, walked out of the flower shop. My eyes moved to Jared's first, but he wouldn't look at. And Emily as always was quick to say something insulting and hurtful. "Look at who we have here. The new Mrs. Milton. My, my, Amara you certainly have settled into your new life quickly. I just never thought you were so shallow to marry for money," Emily said. I stared at my best friend in
AMARA POV.Ace’s head immediately snapped towards my bedside table and his eyes narrowed before looking back at me. I ducked out from under his arms that caged me in, and I sighed in relief. His closeness was doing something to me, and I was glad for this little interruption. I quickly walked over to my bed and opened the drawer, and the ring tone filled the room loudly. The name Lena stood written across the screen, and I looked around at Ace. “Do you mind? I have a call.” I said and I swear I he grunted animalistically. “Who is it?” He demanded and reached for my still ringing phone, but I stepped out of his reach and held it up for him to see instead. “It’s a friend, okay?” I said and he narrowed his eyes at me as he read the name. Whose name did he expect to see on my phone? Jared’s. Fat chance of him calling me.“Can you please leave?” I asked and he squared his shoulders and without another word, he turned towards the door and left. I was about to sigh in relief when he turned a
AMARA POV. What the hell was going on? What were they talking about and what the fuck? Lena was actually Marlena, and she was Ace’s sister?! But… aunt Jenny was her mother and not Clarissa… could she be the result of a previous relationship, but that didn’t make sense as well unless… my head snapped up to the man beside me. He was looking in front of hi as we walked. He was looking pointedly at the woman down the hall that I considered a friend and it dawned on me. Lena was younger than Ace so that meant… “Your father had an affair, didn’t he?” I asked and his head snapped to mine before he quickly looked away. “Yes.” Was all he said, and I felt the bitterness in his voice. That was why Clarissa didn’t look at all happy to see her. “Was it her that phoned you earlier?” He asked but didn’t look at me. I felt him tighten his grip on my hand and realised that I haven’t removed my fingers from his, but for some reason I didn’t want to. “Yes, it was, but I missed the call. I guess I took
LENA POV. “We are werewolves, Amara.” I said and Amara’s face dropped to show no expressions or emotions. Her eyes darted to my father and his Luna before they came to a stop on Ace. He was standing as still as a statue, watching her and I swear he was holding his breath in anticipation. I once again realised how different my brother seemed. I noticed it when I first walked through the doors of the pack house. There was something different about him and it was only when I he looked at her as he took her hand earlier, did I realise why. Mate. Having your mate by your side can change a person. “Werewolves?” Amara said in a flat voice as she took another turn to look at us all. “O-kay.” She said slowly and I could see that she didn’t believe me. “I’m being serious Amara.” I said and she raised an eyebrow at me and snorted. “Look, I don’t know what you are playing at Lena, but this isn’t funny.” Amara said and I pursed my lips and looked towards Ace know
AMARA POV. He must have seen that I was afraid because he spoke to me softly. “I just want to talk.” He said as he took a small step towards one of the office chairs in front of his father’s desk and I felt my heart start to settle when he sat down. “I won’t hurt you, Amara. That I promise you.” He said and I slid down from the top of the couch to sit on the seat again. I swallowed nervously as I looked him over. He had his pants back on but not his shoes. He had put on his dress shirt again but didn’t button it up and his hard muscled abs were taunting me as he breathed while he sat there and I had to force my eyes back to his face. I had to take a breath because my face suddenly felt flushed and hot. “W- What are you?” I asked stupidly and to his credit he didn’t give me a sarcastic answer. “I am a werewolf, Amara.” He said and I swallowed. There was no jokiness in his demeanour and I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath as the truth of the situation started to sink in. “But how?”
ACE POV. A startled gasp escaped her throat before I felt a foot come down hard onto my own and I hissed in pain. It wasn’t that it was actually painful, it was that it was so unexpected that I jolted back to the then and now. I immediately let go of Amara as the look of fear was a bucket of cold water over my lust and I took a deep breath, forcing my wolf to the back of my mind. ‘What the hell, Coal?!’ I chastised my wolf for him momentarily taking over. Coal skulked to the back of my mind with his tail between his legs. I understood his frustration but I didn’t want to scare Amara more than what she already was… For Goddess’s sake! I just promised her a few moments ago that I would never harm her. “WAIT! I’m sorry.” I said when Amara tried to make a run for the door. I grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back towards me. “Let me GO!” She said and practically screamed out the last word. Before I could explain what happened, the office door burst open and Lena stood there with wid
