AMARA POV.
When I came into the dining room, Mr and Mrs Milton were already sitting at the breakfast table. It was quite a long table that had space for about thirty more people, and I thought it weird that there were no one else that was seated. I was under the impression that others also lived inside the manor. “Ah, Amara. There you are.” Clarissa said and motioned for me to take a seat. I looked over the assorted items that were being service and I thought it to be a bit much. There was a little of something of everything.
“Hope you slept well?” Clarissa asked and I nodded as I reached for a jug of juice and started to fill the glass in front of me. “Yes, thank you. The room is very beautiful.” I said and Clarissa looked satisfied with my answer, and she too poured herself some juice before looking towards the door that I just came through. "What is taking Ace so long?" Clarissa asked as she looked to her watch before ticking her fingers on the table.
"Maybe he forgot about the time by staring at himself in the mirror to further boost that ego of his." I commented snappily as I remembered the kiss we shared in my room before I came down for breakfast. For some reason I couldn’t blame him fully because I returned the kiss. What the hell was I thinking and what is wrong with me. I must be coming down with something.
Clarissa hid a smile behind her napkin, but I could see the sparkles in her eyes while her husband ignored me.
Just then, the bane in my new marriage entered the room. The smug look on his face as he locked eyes with me made me look away just as my cheeks flared red as I immediately thought back to our kiss in the room. Out the corner of my eye, I saw his mother look to me before looking back towards her son who was pulling out a chair and plopping himself next to me in it and I ground my teeth as I felt his hand fleetingly touch my back as he put an arm at the back of my chair’s head rest.
"Good morning, Ace, you seem to be in a good mood this morning." His mother greeted suspiciously as her eyes travelled to my stiff seating position to his relaxed one.
“Good morning, mother, father.” He greeted as he reached forward with his other hand and picked up the cup of coffee that one of the girls just filled for him. “Of course, I am. I’m married to a beautiful woman and will soon be taking over the reign’s from father just as soon as I come back from our honeymoon.” He said smugly before taking a sip. It was at that moment that I was about to take a sip of my juice when I choked on the sip.
“H-HONEYMOON!?” I sputtered out on a chocking cough. There wasn’t anything in the marriage agreement about having to go on a honeymoon! I thought to myself as I looked at Ace’s warning glare at my shocked outburst at the table. “But of course, the two of you will be leaving on your honeymoon soon, how else will I become a grandfather?” Hugo commented as he folded and laid the newspaper down onto the table and pinned a strict look onto me that made me swallow inaudibly. I felt intimidated and angry at the same time. “I-I mean… I didn’t know you wanted to leave so soon. I haven’t given my notice in at work and Peter is a wreck when it comes to organising and…” I stuttered. Last night I was a very emotional and angry when I let it slip to his parents that I didn’t want to marry their son, but the agreement was that I would not speak of it to anyone publicly or in private otherwise he would go back on his word and destroy everything my brother and Jared had worked for over the few years.
“He will manage!” Ace said with finality and drained his cup of coffee before putting it down on the table in front of him. The girl that poured his coffee the first time came forward to pour another, but he motioned her away. “I have already spoken to Peter and he was more than happy to accept the arrangement.” I looked at him in disbelief. The son of a bitch went behind my back, and I felt a little betrayed by Peter for giving in so easily. “Arrangement?” I asked and he pulled his hand back from the back of my chair and started to pile various types of meat onto his plate. A lot of meat. Bacon, sausages, beef cuts, meat balls and other things that one would not usually find at breakfast meals. “Yes, an arrangement. I offered to have Gerald fill in, in your place and Peter was more than happy to accept.” He said and took a large bite out of a sausage and smirked my way. I felt like I could murder Peter right now. “Really, Ace? You seduced my colleague friend with one of your hot friends? Of course, Peter would grab for the chance to look at another man’s ass for days on end.” I said angrily and went to reach for my glass of juice went I faltered. Did he just growl? I looked back at him questioningly before looking around. “Did you… Did you hear that? I asked and a snickering girl in the corner caught my attention before she saw me looking and sobered up quickly.
Something strange was going on. When I looked to his parents, they both were looking pointedly at Ace. I must be imagining things, I thought to myself as I shook it off. It has been under a lot of stress recently. “Thank you, but I don’t think me going away at the moment…” I started to say but he cut me off. “It has been done. We will be leaving this evening.” He said before looking towards his mother. “Mother, will you make sure that Amara is packed accordingly for the trip that we will be taking?” He asked and my mouth dropped open. It was clear that I had no say in this whatsoever and apparently, I wasn’t privy to know where we were going either since he would have said so by now. Even though I was angry, I couldn’t help but be curious as to know where we would be going. I basically never left out little town. After me and Alex’s parents died, we stuck close together. Even after I finished school. That was when Peter offered me a job in his mother’s flower and gift shop. It wasn’t much, but they needed the extra pair of hands, and I haven’t thought of doing anything else since.
I watched in awe as Ace chowed down his breakfast in record speed before getting up. My mind was still reeling from the shock of the turn of breakfast that I didn’t have time to react when Ace swooped down and stole a kiss off my lips and turned away and walked out of the room. I sat there frozen. My stomach in knots as I stared after him where he was already out of sight.
I looked towards Clarissa and Hugo. Hugo was busy with a huge plate of his own but was at least eating it more presentably than his son whilst Clarissa sat and sipped her tea whilst watching me with an amused expression. “Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it.” She said and winked at me before taking another sip of her tea. "You should eat," Hugo spoke up as he swallowed a bite of bacon. "You are too thin and if you are going to bear my grand pups then I suggest you put some meat one your bones." He said and I stared at him. “Grand pups?” I asked puzzled and Hugo winced in pain as though he was pinched, and I saw Clarissa adjust herself more comfortably in her chair before clearing her throat to speak. “Come on dear. Have your breakfast then we can go shopping for your trip.” Clarissa said and this time I knew they were hiding something.
"I seem to have lost my appetite all of a sudden," I said as I looked at the two of them suspiciously. My mother-in-law nodded and didn’t press on that I should eat, but instead stood up from the table. "In that case, we should get going then." She said and leaned over to her husband and bent down to drop a kiss onto his head while he chewed on a piece of toast. "We have a long day ahead of us." She spoke and indicated for me to come with her.
AMARA POV. "All these clothes are so expensive," I grumbled as I was forced to model another outfit in front of my new mother-in-law. She looked at the pretty summers dress with a thoughtful eye before she nodded her head. I sighed tiredly. Clarissa has taken me to one of the most expensive boutiques in the city. I couldn’t understand why we couldn’t just go into town to get a few simple outfits, but she insisted on the hour drive to the city. And the other thing that annoyed me was why we had to have a driver? One I could have understood but two? Really? We could have driven it by ourselves and on top of that, they seem to follow us everywhere we went. I briefly wondered if Ace had put them up to it in order to make sure that I didn’t change my mind and run off to somewhere. "I really like this one dear. The colour complements your skin, and the cut enhances your curves," Clarissa said in approval. The dress was a red colour. Two thin straps rested off the shoulder and the skirt fo
AMARA POV. I smiled as I looked out of the tainted car window at the busy street of our little town. It was almost closing time, and everyone was hurrying along to close up their stores and go home. We were close to the little flower shop that I worked at with Pete and I remembered that I still needed to have a little word with him. “Do you mind if we quickly made a stop at Flower Alley? I asked. Clarissa gave me a brief look before she nodded and ordered the driver to make the stop. “Thank you, I’ll be right back.” I said and got out. I nearly fainted when two people that she didn't want to see at the moment, walked out of the flower shop. My eyes moved to Jared's first, but he wouldn't look at. And Emily as always was quick to say something insulting and hurtful. "Look at who we have here. The new Mrs. Milton. My, my, Amara you certainly have settled into your new life quickly. I just never thought you were so shallow to marry for money," Emily said. I stared at my best friend in
AMARA POV.Ace’s head immediately snapped towards my bedside table and his eyes narrowed before looking back at me. I ducked out from under his arms that caged me in, and I sighed in relief. His closeness was doing something to me, and I was glad for this little interruption. I quickly walked over to my bed and opened the drawer, and the ring tone filled the room loudly. The name Lena stood written across the screen, and I looked around at Ace. “Do you mind? I have a call.” I said and I swear I he grunted animalistically. “Who is it?” He demanded and reached for my still ringing phone, but I stepped out of his reach and held it up for him to see instead. “It’s a friend, okay?” I said and he narrowed his eyes at me as he read the name. Whose name did he expect to see on my phone? Jared’s. Fat chance of him calling me.“Can you please leave?” I asked and he squared his shoulders and without another word, he turned towards the door and left. I was about to sigh in relief when he turned a
AMARA POV. What the hell was going on? What were they talking about and what the fuck? Lena was actually Marlena, and she was Ace’s sister?! But… aunt Jenny was her mother and not Clarissa… could she be the result of a previous relationship, but that didn’t make sense as well unless… my head snapped up to the man beside me. He was looking in front of hi as we walked. He was looking pointedly at the woman down the hall that I considered a friend and it dawned on me. Lena was younger than Ace so that meant… “Your father had an affair, didn’t he?” I asked and his head snapped to mine before he quickly looked away. “Yes.” Was all he said, and I felt the bitterness in his voice. That was why Clarissa didn’t look at all happy to see her. “Was it her that phoned you earlier?” He asked but didn’t look at me. I felt him tighten his grip on my hand and realised that I haven’t removed my fingers from his, but for some reason I didn’t want to. “Yes, it was, but I missed the call. I guess I took
LENA POV. “We are werewolves, Amara.” I said and Amara’s face dropped to show no expressions or emotions. Her eyes darted to my father and his Luna before they came to a stop on Ace. He was standing as still as a statue, watching her and I swear he was holding his breath in anticipation. I once again realised how different my brother seemed. I noticed it when I first walked through the doors of the pack house. There was something different about him and it was only when I he looked at her as he took her hand earlier, did I realise why. Mate. Having your mate by your side can change a person. “Werewolves?” Amara said in a flat voice as she took another turn to look at us all. “O-kay.” She said slowly and I could see that she didn’t believe me. “I’m being serious Amara.” I said and she raised an eyebrow at me and snorted. “Look, I don’t know what you are playing at Lena, but this isn’t funny.” Amara said and I pursed my lips and looked towards Ace know
AMARA POV. He must have seen that I was afraid because he spoke to me softly. “I just want to talk.” He said as he took a small step towards one of the office chairs in front of his father’s desk and I felt my heart start to settle when he sat down. “I won’t hurt you, Amara. That I promise you.” He said and I slid down from the top of the couch to sit on the seat again. I swallowed nervously as I looked him over. He had his pants back on but not his shoes. He had put on his dress shirt again but didn’t button it up and his hard muscled abs were taunting me as he breathed while he sat there and I had to force my eyes back to his face. I had to take a breath because my face suddenly felt flushed and hot. “W- What are you?” I asked stupidly and to his credit he didn’t give me a sarcastic answer. “I am a werewolf, Amara.” He said and I swallowed. There was no jokiness in his demeanour and I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath as the truth of the situation started to sink in. “But how?”
ACE POV. A startled gasp escaped her throat before I felt a foot come down hard onto my own and I hissed in pain. It wasn’t that it was actually painful, it was that it was so unexpected that I jolted back to the then and now. I immediately let go of Amara as the look of fear was a bucket of cold water over my lust and I took a deep breath, forcing my wolf to the back of my mind. ‘What the hell, Coal?!’ I chastised my wolf for him momentarily taking over. Coal skulked to the back of my mind with his tail between his legs. I understood his frustration but I didn’t want to scare Amara more than what she already was… For Goddess’s sake! I just promised her a few moments ago that I would never harm her. “WAIT! I’m sorry.” I said when Amara tried to make a run for the door. I grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back towards me. “Let me GO!” She said and practically screamed out the last word. Before I could explain what happened, the office door burst open and Lena stood there with wid
ACE POV. To say that I barely slept is an understatement. I didn’t even come near my bed as I planted my ass in the chair in the bar lounge in the bottom of the house. I was very grateful to my grandfather for thinking of this. A lot of our young wolves tend to reach a rebellious stage and want to sneak about to the human bars and what not and then a fight usually occurs, putting out kind at risk of exposure when the wolves try to show off in front of the human girls. So instead, they can come down here and blow off some steam and if they want to fighting, they can brawl their heart out on the training fields. There are still the few that sneak off though, but if caught then they are punished. Punished! That is what Coal should be getting! Punished. I thought and I felt Coal stir for the first time since I chased him to the back of my mind when he tried to take his chance with Amara. ‘I’m not going to apologize, Ace.’ Coal said and I huffed angrily and audibly at him. ‘Whether or no
