Wrong Decision

"I'm sure you know why I called you here", Mary said. "Yes", Valerie replied. "Good. Look, I know it's not your choice to marry Valentino but we insist on you both getting married", Mary said

"And why's that? I mean he's dating my cousin Mariana and they're so in love..why don't you just let them get married", Valerie asked.

"I know all of that but we don't want your cousin, what we want is you. You have to get married to Valentino", Mary said.

Valerie stared at the woman in front of her in disbelief. "But I don't have an ounce of feelings for him...you're not my family so you don't get to decide who I get to spend the rest of my life with. Marriage isn't something one will just jump into like that", she said exactly the way it was in her mind.

"I know that and I know you're not comfortable with the decision but you'll learn to love him when you both marry. He's a good boy", Mary advised

Valerie wanted to turn her down but her thirst for revenge overshadowed that and she ended up agreeing to Mary's offer. All she wants is to show Mariana who's boss.

"I'll marry your son", Valerie said firmly. Mary's eyes lit with happiness when she heard that. She stood up from where she was sitting and sat next to Valerie.

"Thank you so much, I promise you won't regret it", Mary smiled and hugged Valerie. "I'm not so sure of that", Valerie thought as she hugged Mary back.

"What the fuck is going on here", Valentino's voice echoed causing them to separate.

"As you can see, I'm just having a conversation with your soon-to-be wife", Mary said with a smile.

"I've said this before and I'll say it again, there's no way I'm going to marry her", he said referring to Valerie.

Valerie scoffed.."like I want to get married to you either", she said inwardly. "I'm going to marry Mariana", Valentino said loudly.

"Sorry, but there's nothing you can do about that. You're going to be man and wife in the next two weeks", Mary dropped the bombshell.

"What", the two of them echoed at the same time. Yes, she indeed agreed to marry Valentino but she didn't think it'll be as soon as the next two weeks.

"Did I hear you correctly", Valentino asked in disbelief. "Yes son, you heard me right. You're getting married next two weeks and there's nothing you can do about that so the earlier you realize that, the better for you", Mary said

"I'll leave you too to talk", she said and went upstairs leaving Valerie and Valentino alone.

Valentino took slow steps towards Valerie with a frown. Valerie took a step back with every step Valentino took forward until her back hit the wall and she had no place to run to.

She just bowed her head in fear as she expected the worst. Valentino reached where she was and stopped with his hands placed in his pockets.

He stared at the girl in front of him with contempt and disgust. He thought of her as cheap because he believes girls like her can go to any extent to be with him.

He raised her chin forcefully to look at him. "Look, I don't know what you think you're doing but don't ever think I'm going to love you in this life. I love your cousin and you know that. You better convince my mum to stop this wedding or get ready to spend the rest of your life in hell", Valentino smirked when he saw the expression on her face.

She looked terrified like she just came back from hell, and that satisfied Valentino.

Valentino eyed Valerie one more time and left. As soon as he was gone, Valerie released the breath she's been holding. "What was that", she thought.

"I need to leave", she said and picked up her bag, and dashed away from the house.

She bumped into the guy that brought her to the mansion on her way out.

"Excuse me, ma'am, let me drive you to your destination", he said.

"No thanks, I'll just take a cab or order an Uber", Valerie said. She didn't want anything from this family.

The driver wanted to say something but Valerie already left. She got to the gate and it was opened.

When she got outside she was expecting to see vehicles on the road but to her surprise, she didn't even find a person walking on the road.

The place was as silent as a graveyard. Valerie bit her lips hard.

"Let me wait, maybe a cab will drive by", she thought. She waited for more than an hour but to no avail.

She kept on waiting but no car passed by, she started trekking to her destination. She hasn't gone far when a black car drove past.

Valerie immediately waved her hand to stop the car and she was happy when the car stopped.

She got to the car and found out it was the same guy that offered to drive her home. She bit her lips in embarrassment.

She got in and buckled her seatbelt. "Why is this place so empty", Valerie asked

"Who dares pass this place", the driver replied and Valerie understood the hidden meaning behind that statement.

Everyone is scared of the Prestons so no one in their right senses will think of passing the road.

"Seems like my soon-to-be husband isn't to be joked with", Valerie thought.

She pondered hard throughout the ride. She didn't know when they arrived at their destination.

"We've arrived ma'am", the driver informed and that snapped her out of her thoughts.

"Oh, thank you", Valerie smiled and alighted from the vehicle.

When she opened her gate she was immediately pounced on by Megan who was waiting for her all this while.

"I was already getting scared when you didn't arrive on time", Megan said worriedly

"Come on stop overreacting, I didn't spend much time in Preston's mansion", Valerie scoffed

"Really?.. You left this place by 2 pm and you're coming back by 7pm how do you explain that. I ?as even about to file a missing report", Megan hissed

Valerie chuckled at Megan's behavior. "Stop exaggerating things you drama queen", Valerie said and walked away.

"Hey, come back here!!how dare you walk out on me while I'm still talking", Megan yelled as she went after Valerie who didn't even stop.

*****

It was already 8pm and Megan was done making dinner and was setting the table.

Valerie climbed down the stairs in her night wear with a towel wrapped around her wet hair...it looked like she just took her bath.

"Mmmmm, I smell something delicious", Valerie smiled as she approached the dining area.

"Yup, and be rest assured that the food is also as delicious as it smells", Megan said

"I know Meg, you never disappoint when it comes to cooking", Valerie said as she took a seat.

She opened the food and smiled when she saw it was pasta and meatballs.

"Arghhh", Valerie groaned in satisfaction "you're the best", she added and started digging in.

"I know right", Megan smiled proudly and started eating as well.

They were engaging in random discussions as they ate dinner.

"Oh right, I forgot to ask. How was the meeting with the Prestons earlier. I wanted to ask but it but it skipped my mind", Megan said

"It was okay", Valerie simply said causing Megan to squint her eyes at her.

"Okay?...just okay?..nothing else", Megan asked.

"What else?...it was okay. I agreed to marry that arrogant punk and he threatened me...how pathetic of him", Valerie scoffed when she remembered what transpired between her and Valentino earlier.

"What!. You mean you agreed to marry him. Why did you do that, you don't even have feelings for him and aunt Avery is gonna kill you", Meg said with a loud voice

"I know that and I agreed purposely, I wanted to teach Mariana a good lesson and the only way to do that is take away the only thing that makes her happy", Valerie smirked

"Still, don't you know marriage is a big thing. You can't just jump into it like that because of some revenge...It's a forever thing. You don't even know a thing about this guy", Megan scolded

Valerie's face turned sour with Megan's scolding. She didn't think Megan will react this way, she was already regretting her decision but it's already late.

"I know that Megan but it's too late to back out. The wedding is in two weeks time", Valerie muttered.

Megan's eyes widened in surprise and she stood up abruptly from her chair.

"Two weeks", she said and Valerie nodded with a pout

"You're in deep shit, you should have talked to me about this. I thought we were best friends...I can't believe this...Good night", Megan said angrily and stormed upstairs

Valerie slumped her shoulders in sadness...no doubt she has made Megan angry this time around. She began to reconsider her decision of marrying Valentino.

"Have i made the wrong decision", she couldn't help but think as she drifted to sleep on that spot.
