The Unexpected Apology

We wake up the next morning to a loud knock at the door. Kyle barks, "Fuck off! I’m sleeping!"

“I’m a royal messenger with a message from the king,” he says clearly through the cottage door.

Kyle says, “Oh shit, I wonder what the king wants.” He gets up and answers the door. Kyle comes back with a royal envelope with a fancy seal on it. He opens it and looks surprised. “ The king wants to me meet me for breakfast. I’m not sure why. I’ll get the guard to bring you breakfast, and monitor our cottage,” he says. He gets dressed quickly, and leaves.

When Kyle comes back from breakfast with the king. He is livid. Kyle paces back and forth, like he’s arguing with his wolf. He finally stops and looks at me.

“Have you been going for runs with your wolf without me?” He asks.

I look at him confused," Huh? What do you mean without you? Why would you think that?" I ask.

“Just answer the fucking question, Sam,” he yells.

“Are you serious? All I do is work. If I’m not working, I’m with you? Where do you think I’m getting this extra time to run off on my own? Use your fucking brain, Kyle,” I yell and stomp into the bathroom, and slam the door. There really is nowhere else to go. I’m just standing there in front of the door, feeling stupid.

“I’m sorry Sam, I just heard... ummm, nothing. Just forget about it,” he says.

“Men are so weird,” I speak to Gabriel. She doesn’t answer back. I run the water in the bathroom and wash my hands. Fiddle around with the towels, brush my hair. Then open the door to the bathroom like I was busy doing something important.

“Hi,” he waves.

“Hi,” I say back.

“So I think it’s best if you don’t come to the pack meeting. I’ll send a guard with you to check out the village we’re staying in. I’ll give you a card to pick up a few clothes, or just buy whatever you want. Sorry,” he says again, and holds out his debit card.

“Is this how it works now? You say something stupid, then hand me your debit card to buy something pretty?” I ask.

“If you want, sure. Just don’t stay mad at me for stuff I do, Sam. You were right, I was wrong. I’m going to get ready and head out to the pack meeting. Hopefully, we can have dinner together again. It was nice to spend time away from the pack alone with you,” Then goes into the bathroom to get ready.

“Does this mean we won’t be meeting the king?” Gabriel asks. “I don’t know,” I answer. “He’s being weird, and kinda nice. Let’s not push it, Gabriel. I don’t want to get hit again.” She drops it. I jump in bed, and flip on the tv.
