“A Warning”

POV Samatha

    I wake up alone. Still nothing from my wolf. I get ready and head upstairs to work. I’m still thinking about the day before. About the words, “I’m sorry, Sam,” Kyle said he didn’t care. He has a wife. Why would he care? Maybe he was saying it so I would finally give him sex, and it was all a show. Before Kyle, I had never kissed a man. I’m still a virgin. I would not be giving my virginity to Kyle. When I get to the kitchen, I start the prep for breakfast. 

    When Amanda comes in, she warns me. “You'd better watch yourself, Sam. Everyone is mad you put Melanie in the infirmary.”

    “What?” I say." I got downstairs, and she put a gun to my head." 

    “Well, you are sleeping with her husband,” she says.

    “I haven’t slept with Kyle. He’s my mate, and keeps touching me, and crawling into my bed,” I tell her.

    “He’s your mate? ”She asks," Don’t tell anyone he’s your mate, or you’ll get beaten! No one will believe you, but it explains why he wants to keep you as his mistress. In all honesty, it’s only a matter of time before Melanie tries to kill you. You should try to escape."

    “I don’t think Kyle would let me get far,” I tell her. She says nothing after that. We just work as normal, and she actually lets me have breaks. The rest of the staff glare at me all day. One even tried to trip me, and my wolf snarled at her. At least I know Gabriel is there, even if she’s not talking to me. When I’m done with work at 9:30pm, I go downstairs and have a bath. 

    I try talking to my wolf. "Why don’t we compromise? You talk to me, and I’ll give you something you want. I don’t think Kyle will let me train as a warrior right now. Just tell me something else that you really want or need, Gabriel. I promise eventually I’ll push for combat training. Just not until Kyle mellows out a little more.” Gabriel doesn’t respond and continues to keep me in the dark. I’m about to get out of the bath when I hear my front door open. I don’t have to ask to know who it is. His intoxicating scent of chocolate and strawberries fills the room. When I open the bathroom door. He’s sitting on the edge of the bed.

    “Hi Sam,” he says," I think we need to talk."

    “We need to talk?” I laugh. " I’m just your mistress! Suddenly we’re in a relationship now? Word is Melanie is going to kill me, Kyle. It’s only a matter of time."

    “I would never let her kill you, Sam.”

    “Are you going to stand at my door 24/7? Can you even guarantee my safety, Kyle? The minute you're away for a pack meeting. I’m dead. She’ll kill me in my sleep. I am sleeping with her husband. I would kill me too!”

    “Then I’ll take you with me when I travel,” he says. “In fact, I’m heading for our annual meeting at the lycan king’s palace with all the other packs in a couple of weeks. You can come with me,” he smiles.

    “Wipe that smile off your face, Kyle! I’m not your wife. I’m your mistress. Why not take Melanie with you?” I yell at him.

    “I will take whomever I please with me. You don’t get to tell me what to do! Dry your hair, and come to bed,” he demands.
