ログインIsabella's point of view
Diego was sitting at the head of the table, a navy blue sweat shirt replaced the black shirt he was putting on this morning, I took my seat across from him, inhaling the sweet aroma coming from the delicacy before me, the cook seems to have outdone herself, the table was filled with all kinds of food, roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, pasta, sea foods and even fine wine.
“Do you always eat like this?” I asked, helping myself to a plate of pasta. He took a sip from the glass of wine in his hand, before he dropped it on the table. I watched him pick a file folder, this action made me sigh. Even at dinner, he was still working.
He didn’t even bother to look up, he just nodded his head. Before I could repeat my question the double doors opened, a tall man in black suit stepped in and walked directly to Diego, he leaned close to him and whispered some words in Italian. Capo, that was the only word I could hear, even though I strained my ears to listen. Diego’s expression remained the same, but I didn’t fail to see the faint tightening of his jaw.
“I will handle it later, not now.” He said in a very low voice. The man nodded and left quietly as he had come in. Whatever he came to discuss must have been urgent, I set my forks down as the door closed.
“Capo?” I questioned.
“It’s the Italian word for Leader,” he replied, swirling the wine in his glass, he took a sip and placed the glass back on the table.
“Leader for what?” I sat upright waiting for his response.
His gaze shifted to mine, “You ask too many questions.”
“And you give too few answers.”
He leaned back in his chair, his gaze not leaving me, he studied me for a long moment. “You are not ready for my answers, Isabella. It’s better you remain ignorant of what I am involved in.”
I didn’t back down, I held his gaze.
“What if I don’t want to be ignorant.” I asked, resting my elbows on the table.
“Be careful with what you wish for?” He replied, picking up the folder he was previously going through. He stood up all of a sudden and stepped out, leaving me alone in the dining room.

I wandered into the hallway after he left, I should have gone back to my room but the faint voices I heard made me curious, I followed the sound which seems to be coming from his study
“The shipment will be arriving next week,” a deep voice said.
“Make sure it is clean, no police and no names. Make sure nobody talks, do whatever it takes to silence them,” I heard Diego reply, I gasped as realization hit me, this wasn’t just an ordinary business, the order depicts he was involved in some shady business.
I began to step back in fear of getting caught, suddenly the voices stopped and that ignited my fear, the door swung opened.
“Isabella!” He exclaimed.
“I….. was…. just.. I..”
“Eavesdropping,” he finished flatly, his eyes narrowing.
My heart began beating and pounding against my chest.
“What type of business do you run? I deserve to know.”
“Whatever business I run is none of your business,” he said, closing the distance between us in two strides.
“I deserve to know, I married you and I live with you, I have the right to know what type of man I am sharing a roof with.” I said, with a trembling voice. He just stared at me for a long time. Then he stepped closer till I felt the heat of his breath against my skin.
“Listen carefully,” he whispered, his voice low and commanding.
“I run what everyone knows as the the De’ Luca corporation, but that is only on the surface. Beneath the surface is something much darker and older than even me, it has always been passed down to generations in the De’ Luca household, my grandfather was in it, same with my father till he passed it down on to me. My family built this city from the shadows. We make sure rules are never broken even when we break them ourselves.”
I knew what he was talking about, I’ve read about them in newspapers.
“Mafia,” I whispered.
His jaw tightened, but he didn’t even try denying it.
“We call it family here,”
“You kill people?” I asked in fear, stepping back from him.
“Sometimes, when it’s necessary or when they deserve it.”
“Does my father know about this?” I asked in a rush,
“Why drag me into this?” my chest tightened and my breath became shallow.
“Your father dragged himself into this, there are a lot of things you don’t know about the man you call your father,” he replied, his tone hardening.
“Your father used my name, my money and my network to keep his business going and alive, he made promises he couldn’t keep, his daughter was the only collateral he could offer and I accepted.”
“Collateral,” I whispered, did Jessica find out about this, is that why she ran.
“You are part of my world now, you know what I am involved in, you can’t walk away and you can’t run.”
“It would have been better if you are not aware of this, but you are so damn stubborn. Now that you know what I am, will you stop trying to get to know me, I know what you are trying to do. I am not a good person Isabella, I cannot be a good husband to you, but I promise no harm will come to you”
Bruno’s POVThe silence in the room pressed heavy against my skull, the only sound was the beeping of the monitor. Diego looked pale, way too pale for my liking. He looked like someone fading away, tubes ran from his chest to some machines. I sat beside him, placing my elbows on my knees, looking at him felt so wrong so I stared at the floor instead. It was strange to see my brother reduced to this fragile thing. He shifted weakly, a cough ripping through his chest. I sprang on my feet. “Stay down,” I commanded, laying a hand on his shoulder.“If you move again, I will break your arm.” I threatened, his lips curved into that damn familiar tired smile.“Still the same brute,” he whispered“Shut up!” I said glaring at him.He coughed again, making it evident that he was in so much pain.“I don’t…. think I’ll make it Bruno,” he rasped. The words hit me like a punch to the ribs.“Don’t start with that shit,” I snapped. “You’ve survived worse.” I added. His eyes softened, the kind of softn
The drive back was a blur, all I could hear was the sound of Diego’s ragged breathing and Bruno’s low curses. I kept whispering his name over and over again like I was in trance.“Stay with me,” I begged. “Please, stay Diego.”Bruno’s eyes were fixed on the road, his face read no emotions. But I knew a storm would be raging inside of him, his knuckles were white around the steering wheel. Behind us Tiano kept pressure on Diego’s wound, his own leg bleeding through his pants.“Hold on boss,” Tiano growled.“Don’t you dare check out of this world leaving me all alone.”No one dared to say what we were all thinking, perhaps it was already too late. Rosita kept sobbing quietly. We reached the estate, Bruno carried Diego inside, barking orders that made everyone scatter around.“Get me the doctor! Clear the east wing! No one gets in without my permission!”Bruno laid Diego on the bed, confirming if he’s still breathing. The doctor arrived within minutes, we all excused them as they began t
Isabella’s point of viewI stared at the letter Eliz brought to my room earlier, my hands tremble as I stared at the words, the ink was smudged in certain places, which shows whoever wrote it had pressed too hard.“Time is shorter than you think. Remember what you are there for, don’t forget the promise you made to your mother. Any mistake you make will lead to the death of your mother.”My chest tightened, Eliz. The quiet maid who barely spoke, the one who always averted her gaze when Diego was around works for that person. The truth kind of burned a hole into my stomach, she worked for him, for the man who had my mother. I folded the note quickly, sliding it into my pocket just as the door opened. Diego stepped in with Tiano, his presence filled my room making fear settle at the pit of my stomach.“We will be leaving in an hour’s time.” He said, facing me directly.“Tiano, this as to be discreet as possible.” He added.“The men alone knows we are going to the Fords, they have been b
Unknown’s povThe world believes I am dead, it’s amusing. It really is. People believe the moment a coffin is sealed and lowered into the earth, that ends it al. No more questions, and they stop looking over their shoulders, they can sleep easier.Diego De’ Luca sleeps easier. He doesn’t know that man he buried six years ago was not me, he doesn’t know I watched him at my funeral, he buried the wrong corpse. I’ve been patient, so patient that I watched him build his empire, continue his grandfather’s legacy. From my window which overlooked the sea, I can still see the faint glow of his mansion’s light across the cliffs. Every night that lights taunts me, reminding me what I have to do to the man who murdered everyone in family, just because my father betrayed his father, he thought he killed every single soul to avoid vengeance but I am alive to avenge my family, my father used to be his father’s consigliere but because of a betrayal that could be forgiven, he made his son wipe out ev
DiegoCarlos’s body was found in the garden at the east path, he had been left with a crushed skull and a blood stained note flapping in the air, whoever did this wanted it to be personal and loud.I went there myself to take in every detail, his body laid there cold. I took the sight in, letting my anger take full surge of my body. I didn’t want to be numb, I wanted to feel the rage.“How did this happen?” I asked looking around my men, trust was both at this point, because I feared it might be a group of men.“There was no sign of the killer boss, no prints or mark except from the paths that shows he was dragged here.”“They were careful,” Tiano said quietly. “Too careful and skilled.”Careful actually meant professional, and professional equals someone with access and patience. Someone who knows how to plan and has the patience to wait for the right time to strike, which is exactly when chaos would help them complete their mission. This person truly wanted me to look in the wrong p
DiegoMy mind was occupied with so many things I couldn’t say without breaking something or destroying things I came across, and betrayal was the top on the list.Miguel’s body hasn’t been buried yet, I didn’t even get to apologize to him, he has indeed been loyal and I doubted him, a great mistake on my part and it’s just because I allowed an unwanted feeling creep in. Now Miguel was gone for life, he was poisoned like an animal and the person made sure this happened under my roof.Everyone has been treading carefully, the maids move around like ghosts doing their jobs, the truth is that everyone fears the unforeseen. It’s all my fault, I didn’t handle this well, Bruno would have done a better job. Bruno never makes mistakes, he was well trained by father but one thing about Bruno is that he doesn’t know the difference between the wrong and right, to him everything is wrong. It has gotten to a point I could get killed, I know it’s now easy for whoever is after my life to get to me.
