Four years ago || Alister Kaine’s lab

~Serena~

I’ve lost count of how many experiments they did on me. My skin had lost all sense of pain every time they’d stick a needle in me, forcing drugs and unknown liquids into my system. I’ve lost my spark. I don’t even put up a fight every time they drag me out of my cell.

Somewhere between the time I got here and the time Kaine forced my daughter out of my womb like a pig, Kaya left me alone in this dark, cold cell.

They don’t lock me in a cage anymore. They don’t see me as a threat. The cages were still here, but they had given me a cot to sleep in. A cold, thick shackle was keeping me from roaming around this dark room. I got used to the isolation, to the sound of silence and to the desolation embracing me for the longest time.

I don’t care if I die, and I understand now that they don’t intend to kill me. They wanted me to stay alive, to use me like a lab rat until my body gave out, just like everyone before me. Just like Kaya.

Present time. ~Serena~I woke up with a start, heart pounding and sweat coating my forehead. Shooting up from the bed, I searched for Declan, but only found Lia lying beside me.I was still dressed in my clothes at the time of the attack. I released a breath. We’re still on the day of the attack. The scent of gunpowder and dead rogue bodies in the air proved that.Lia was wearing a fresh white shirt, and a bandage was wrapped around her left thigh. She was in a bad shape, and rogues don’t heal as fast as wolves in a pack. Her heart rate was even, and her breathing was normal. She didn’t even put up a fight when those rogues sank their fangs into her flesh. She had a death wish, and she even begged me not to meddle with a suicide attempt.I should’ve let her be. She wanted to die, and who was I to meddle with her business? I know where she was coming from, and that’s not just out of sympathy. I was in her shoes for a year, and only someone who became a rogue would understand her pain.

~Declan~From the loud noise of the rogue attack, the abandoned town quieted down to stillness in just a blink of an eye—no crickets, not even a whisper of the wind. Lucas was frozen still beside me, confused and shocked by what he had witnessed.Serena’s head bowed down, her chin kissing her chest. She was unmoving, just like Lia. If I weren’t connected to her, I would think she’s standing dead. Every rogue in the vicinity had fallen down, just like the ones before Serena. I don’t sense another life apart from Lucas’.“What just happened?” Lucas broke the silence that had befallen the abandoned town. His words pulled me out of my trance. I rushed towards Serena, cradling her face in my hands. Her eyes were closed; her heartbeat was so faint I could only hear it up close.“Her pulse is weak,” Lucas murmured. I frown. How did he know Serena’s heartbeat was faint? Then I realized he was kneeling before Lia’s bloodied body, two fingers pressed on her neck.“I don’t give a fuck about her,

~Declan~It’s a strange feeling to be preparing for a fight alongside Lia and Serena. Anyone who knew our history would agree with me. This scene had never crossed my mind, not even in my wildest dreams.Crouched down on the back of a metal drum, Lia loaded her gun. Serena had her back against the wall of the house where we slept last night, while I was in the house across from her. Lucas was on the roof of the tallest house in this abandoned town, giving us a count of how many rogues he could see in the distance.“They're in their wolf form,” Lucas murmured through our comms. “There’s about sixty of them, crawling in packs from every corner.”None of us is surprised that these rogues are attacking in packs. They are called rogues for a reason. Their kind were meant to roam this world alone, but that changed over time. Rogues are moving in packs now; they've developed communication skills that I still won’t understand. But Lia and Serena seemed to know a lot about rogues. I should loo

~Serena~“We can’t stay much longer in this place,” Lucas cited, smearing strawberry jam on his bread. He came prepared with drinks, instant coffee, bread, and spreads, but this won’t fuel us for the entire day. I’m grateful for the food and hot coffee warming my palms, but we need a proper meal if we are to fight our way out of this city.Drinking coffee on a chilly morning with Lia and Declan was something I didn’t think would happen, not in this lifetime, not even in the afterlife. I swore on my life to make them pay for their betrayal. How ironic is it that I am planning an escape with them now instead of killing them myself?Lia and I sat on the couch while Lucas and Declan sat on wooden chairs they scavenged from the other houses. They even got us a coffee table.Lia was eerily quiet. Her rogue stench overpowering the coffee aroma doesn’t bother me that much. Being one for a year made me immune to eating with that horrid scent in the air.“The three of you need a proper meal if

  • Forever Yours, Alpha   76|Not A Dream

~Serena~I wake up with the feel of heavy arms around my waist. I don’t have to open my eyes to know who it is. His scent is all over me, and he is the only one with enough courage to embrace me like this.He holds me in a spooning position; he is behind me, his breath gently fanning the back of my neck. There is a sense of comfort in knowing that I am not alone. For five years, I had to wake up alone, sometimes inside a cold cage, and most of the time, embraced by the fear that I might not make it through the day alive. But here in Declan’s arms, the waking hours don’t terrify me, but I fear that this calm I am bathing in right now might not last.It is barely morning outside. The slow break of dawn slips through the gaps in the room’s worn-out walls, along with the crisp morning air.I was in my birthday suit under these sheets, but the heat of Declan’s body was enough to start this fire going inside me.I lay there with eyes closed, listening to his breath and the lub-dub of his he
