What’s he doing here? I never knew Alaric would show up again. He wants to be everywhere I am, trying to create a fuss that no one is seeing.
I knew Lyra was worried when she saw him because he’s the reason why she left that day, but I was surprised when she held my hand and danced with me.
Lyra acted like he wasn’t there, and I was the only one. She danced more than before. It felt like she had mastered every step I taught her back in my office.
I didn’t even realize that everyone had stopped dancing and focused their attention on us. When the music stopped, I looked into her eyes and planted a kiss on her lips before turning around to see Valeria and her father sitting at the place reserved for them.
“Now that’s what we call a dance that will be remembered. You did well at your first trial, Lyra.” My father praised her.
“This is my second trial. He showed me the steps, and I copied them. It’s simple logic, nothing to be worried about.” I pulled out the seat for her and watched Valeria watching my every move like a stalker, and it felt good leaving her in that position.
“I think she’s questioning herself so much.”
“That’s what you’re doing to her, not me,” I replied as she planted a kiss on my right cheek to spite her the more.
“Boss, Alpha Alaric wants to speak to you.” One of my soldiers mentioned calmly and made sure my father didn’t hear what he said.
I followed him to where Alpha Alaric was waiting with two of his men. He was standing close to his convoy.
“What do you want, Alaric?” I asked before removing my jacket so I’d be able to defend myself if he throws his hand at me.
“I’d like to have your lady. She dances so well,l and you’ve got someone in your life. Her name is Valeria, she made mention of you getting married to her in a few months.” He was speaking about her.
“That lady in there is not just my lady. She’s my wife.” I said it plainly to him so he’d listen to every word I said.
“If she’s your wife, why don’t I see a ring on her finger? She’s nothing but one of your playthings.”
“She’s not my plaything. She’s someone who holds a lot of value in my life and beyond. You can have Valeria and make her yours, but Lyra is off limits. If you love your head resting on your shoulder, then stay away from her.” I threatened him with no form of respect.
“Alpha Kieran, I want you to understand that your lady isn’t yours until you’re married to her. I’d try to get her for myself, and if it works, then you’d have no choice but to stick with Valeria. She’s yours.” He clasped his hands and got into the back of his SUV.
I watched him leave the venue, but deep down I knew I was up against Alaric. He doesn’t know that Lyra and I signed a one-year contract.
“I’m going to treat her with so much care that she would never think of another man. She won’t even say a word to Alaric once she’s overwhelmed by my gestures.“ I muttered to myself as I watched Valeria walk out of the building and scan her eyes over the parking lot.
She walked up to me, wearing a wide smile on her face, and she wrapped her hands around me before saying;
“I see you dancing with that lady. I’m sure she’s a lady you picked up at one of those brothels, you and I know how much we love dancing to that song.”
“Her name is Lyra, haven’t you met her before? Why were you shocked when you saw her?” I inquired as she broke the embrace so she could stand beside me.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She denied, arousing suspicion in my mind.
“You were shocked the moment you saw her. She went away for two days and returned. It doesn’t make you happy, right?”
“Alpha Kieran, we’ve come through thick and thin for you to let that thing come in between us.” She placed her hand on my chest.
“Valeria, the thing is…”
“Don’t say that…” She stopped me with a kiss, and at that time,e Lyra strolled out of the event accompanied by my father and the guests.
“My lipstick is all over your lips.” I pulled out my handkerchief immediately to wipe off whatever was on my lips.
I left her standing there in shock and went to meet Ly,ra who was standing at our convoy. They were all waiting for me.
“You just stood up and left without saying a word, ord and that creeps me.” She expressed as she got into the back seat of the SUV.
“I was handling business,” I replied before joining her.
“Guess that’s the reason why your white handkerchief has red stains on it, it’s not blood, right?” She pointed to the handkerchief.
“Can I take a look?” She added, trying to reach for it, but I stopped her.
“You don’t need to know what’s in there. I’m fine, and that’s all you need.” I replied and tossed the handkerchief outside the window.
She rested her head on my chest and then placed her left hand on mine.
“Did you make out with Valeria?” She stammered,
“Why would I hurt you in that manner?” I answered with a question of mine.
“It’s a contract that binds us. We’re not married, ried so you’re free to do whatever you want with her.” She chuckled as she placed her index finger on my lip.
“When you want to cover your tracks, make sure you do a perfect job. Your heart is racing.” She raised her head and returned to her former position.
“She…”
“You don’t owe me an explanation. I’m only a tool to you for one year. Once I get paid, I’ll leave, and this would all be over, so you can spend your remaining days with Valeria.”
How do I let her know that I have no feelings for Valeria?
Crystal POVI downed the entire contents of the first cup and filled my second cup, repeating the same act not because I wanted to get drunk. I hated that she used us for the promotion of her book without giving us any payment. The sales of her book are going to go way up, but I hope it’s worth the hype. I checked out the new stocks before he even told me about that; if only he knew how attracted I am to new stocks.“What’s wrong?”“It’s been a while, and you know how much it takes to be what you are right now, but giving her that promotion on a free platter seems too kind.”“You know I can’t let you have a third cup; we’ve still got a long day ahead of us…” He stopped immediately when someone knocked on the door.“Mr. Kieran.”“Who are you and what do you want?” I asked, belching afterward, before turning my eyes to her; he signaled me to go sit down behind my table. He figured out that the wine’s effects had started showing.“Well, we heard of the benefits you’re giving us, the owne
Kieran POVWe couldn’t finish all of it, so we left it for the guards to take it back home for their use. crystal wore a suspicious look on her face, still thinking about what happened inside the cafe.“You think so much about the past. Don’t hold that in your mind because it has no value; you’d be carrying a burden that’s not meant for you.” I advised her before ushering her into the back of the truck.“I felt so nervous watching you speak to another lady, and I hate that feeling.” She confessed before turning her eyes back to her phone.I thought about Lyra’s friend and the review she asked me to make to support her book and make it a good read for everyone. She wants the media to promote her work, and I have no choice because I’d have to keep my word.We arrived at the office, and she was standing there, looking frustrated.“I thought we had a deal.”“Come with us, Olivia. There’s no reason to cause a fuss because it’s not worth it; you want a review? Then follow us.” Lyra spoke to
Crystal POV I never expected Kieran to act like that. He pushed the man away like he was trying to take something very valuable from him. He was only having a conversation, and the moment he tried to touch me, I saw the man on the ground and Kieran dragging me to the car. He agreed to stop at the cafe because he was famished, as I was. Treating ourselves to a breakfast treat isn’t a bad idea. “Why are you both staying back beside the SUV?” I asked as they got out, but didn’t want to walk with us. “Come with us, get a table, and order what you want. He’s going to pay.” I chuckled, acting like I never knew he was still pissed. While getting seated, his phone was beeping with calls, and I wondered why. I checked the schedules and realized we had no meetings today, so why would the receptionist be calling?“What’s wrong?”“Ma, there’s a woman here by the name Olivia, she’s saying that our boss has to send a review of her book to the press, and he hasn’t done that. She’s pissed, but I
Kieran POv When we arrived at the courthouse, I was relieved that there were no reporters at the entrance of the courthouse. I noticed that Lyra’s countenance changed the moment she got out of the SUV. She quickly wrapped the scarf around her head and her face, leaving only her eyes visible to the public. No one would joke that she’s the one. I figured she did that because of the reporters. “Go in there and let Judge Johnson know that we’re here to see him. Enso Blackwood is the name you’d give to him.”“Other people are waiting to see him.”“Do I look like other people? Do what you’re told, or my guards will help you do your job.” He agreed to my request because he knows that if my guard stormed into the courtroom, it would cause a little chaos, and he might lose his job in respect to that. “Wait here.” He walked into the courtroom slowly while I kept my eyes around and turned to the reception hallway, where the guard mentioned people were waiting to see Judge Johnson. Ethan wa
Kieran POVI had to adjust myself before heading down to the dining table. My father, his beta, and Lyra were already seated without me.“Apple stew?” I was shocked that someone actually made this. No one makes better apple stew than my late mother. I ate in silence as we all did; my father didn’t say a word, and I knew why he was doing this. He didn’t want us to talk about Valeria in front of his Beta and Lyra. Why would I talk about a woman I don’t love? After the meal, Lyra went to bed and didn’t say a word to me. She dozed off in my arms, and I woke up in the morning to discover that she wasn’t in bed with me. “Lyra,” I called her name, but heard no response. I got up from bed, stretched out my arms, and got into the washroom,m but she wasn’t there. I wondered if she had left the house. I was surprised to see her running back into the house through the front gate. She went for an early morning run to wherever, and she got me worried at some point.Lyra has never woken up to
Ethan’s POV I drove to one of the city's largest law firms to see my lawyer. He’s an old friend of mine, and keeping him by my side through this divorce is the best way to keep that ugly urchin in check. “Barrister Smith. How’re you doing?”“What are you doing here?”“I’m here because of the divorce,e and you know we have to make it a lot harder for her to make her work for me,” I explained to him, watching his hand grasp for the bottle of whiskey. I stopped to observe him for a while, then noticed he was drunk and had a picture on his phone. “What’s wrong, Barrister?” I inquired as he was about to grab his pho,ne but I stopped him and wondered why he’d be drinking whiskey at this time of the day.“Come on, what’s going on here?”“I’ve been a divorce attorney for more than a decade, enjoying a happy married life,e and now I’m going through my own divorce.” I was shocked when he turned his phone screen so I could see a video of his wife and another man on a boat cruise. “You’re ab
