Alison’s POV
“Don’t worry about us Mr. Vandyke, we will be fine,” I said in the most polite way possible yet he ignored us and walked to the exit, leading us out. Then to the parking lot, he opened the front door of a Land Cruiser V8. “One person at the front, one at the back.” He said in a very bossy way and then went and sat behind the wheel. Roberta dashed to the backseat leaving me with no choice but to go in front with the scary man. That girl! I will deal with her later. I climbed into the passenger seat and strapped my seatbelt. He made sure we were both strapped before turning on the engine. “Please girls show me where you live.” He said. “Flagstaff Port, that’s where we live,” Roberta replied before I could say anything. I quickly texted her, “What are you doing? Why are you giving him directions to my house and not yours?” She saw my message and intentionally ignored it and that infuriated me even more. “Sure.” He muttered and started to drive. At first, it was quiet in the car and I desperately wanted to get to our destination and just have this man disappear from my sight. His presence made me uncomfortable. I don’t know if it was his looks or how alert he seemed but there was something unusual about him that made me want to disappear from his sight. “So tell me, what did Cory do to you, Alison? It’s Alison right?” He asked. I nodded, “Nothing. He didn’t do anything to me.” I replied wondering why he was asking about Cory again. “So why did your friend ask you to get revenge? Have I wronged you in any way? Or maybe I unknowingly played one of your friends.” “Huh?” Roberta exclaimed. “What’s your name Alison’s friend? “Erm, Roberta.” “Roberta! Why do you girls want to take revenge on me? Did I play any of you?” My heart started to pound restlessly, how did that man hear what Roberta whispered to me over the loud music in the club? This was unusual. Was he one of the computers he claimed to build and repair? Or he had enhanced his senses with some technology because there’s no way a normal human being would have heard Roberta whisper over the loudness. “No, not at all…” Roberta replied and a few seconds later sent me a text. “Bro! This man has some sharp senses, he should have been a security guard or something.” “I’m way too scared of him, I don’t think this revenge will be successful,” I replied to the text. “Slow down girl, maybe we can do this.” “So if there’s no problem, why are you guys calling me a playboy and talking about revenge? I’m not sweeping this under the carpet.” He said, this time his voice was more serious than earlier. I looked outside the window thinking about jumping out of the car, I can’t believe I let revenge bring me here. What if this man wasn’t even Cory’s father like he claimed? Cory never showed me his dad’s picture. Our relationship never got to that stage. “You came to the office the other time looking for Cory, I asked him about it and he said he didn’t owe you any money.” I gasped, oh sure that was his dad. “I believe there’s something, or maybe Cory did something and you guys won’t let it go. From the reaction, I can tell but I can’t seem to place a finger on what it is. If I didn’t know Cory’s girlfriend I would have said he broke your heart or something.” Hearing those words stopped my heart, Cory’s girlfriend? I wanted to scream that I was Cory’s girlfriend but Roberta sent me a text. “Bro! Things are getting crazy out here but don’t you dare spill the beans.” “Cory’s girlfriend? Cory has a girlfriend?” I couldn’t stop myself from lashing out. “Yes, or should I say, woman friend?” He chuckled, “She’s older than he is but Cody claims he likes her. I didn’t support it at first but love is love.” Roberta texted again, “Oops! But please shut up don’t say nothing!” “That’s my mother.” I burst out crying. “Huh!” He slammed on the brakes, I covered my mouth, I didn’t mean for that to slip out like that. “Your mother?” “Erm… he and my mother were dating and my mother… She's got her heart broken before and Cory broke it again. I hate Cory for that. He hurt my mother. She’s so miserable.” I cried. “Oooh… ooohhh…” he exclaimed. “I get it now.” He exclaimed and resumed driving. “But why would you want to get revenge on me? What did I do?” He sighed. “Don’t worry. I will talk to Cory.” “Please don’t, coming here to find you was a stupid idea. We will be fine, everyone will be fine.” I quickly wiped my tears so it wouldn’t be suspicious. “Is this your street?” He asked. “Yes, you can drop us off here,” I said ready to get off. “Okay, sure,” he parked and waited till we were down then he said, “Please stay out of the moonlight county at night. I’m the mayor of that county and I’m warning you it’s not safe at night.” He cautioned and drove off. Roberta quietly watched as the car moved till it was out of sight, before turning to me, obviously she was still scared that he would hear us if he was within a few miles away from us. “What was that for? You almost blew our cover.” “But I came up with a good cover story, didn’t I?” “No, it was not good! If someone broke your mother’s heart, why are you crying?” Roberta yelled at me. “That man can never know that you dated his son until you have had your revenge.” “That’s the problem, Bert, as badly as I want to hurt Cory, his dad scares me, I don’t think I can do this.” Roberta shook her head, “he may seem a bit unusual but he’s a gorgeous man, now remember that pain Cory caused you and let that pain be your motivation.” I heaved and held my breath, even if I were to put my fear aside, how would I find my way back into his father’s life? We were just warned not to come to moonlight at night. This was our last chance to Mr. Vandyke again.Alison’s POVOn a normal day, you’ll think that you’ll take flight when confronted by a wolf but the feeling isn’t the same when you finally meet one. As it growled at me I froze. What do you do when you are trapped in the groves with a wolf? Do you drop to the floor and play dead or freeze till it walks away? I have no answer for that. I just stood there sweating and trying not to cry.I was so sorry for disobeying Mr. Vandyke, he had warned me against such places at night but I didn’t listen, this was all my fault and now I was going to be eaten by a wolf.Just as the animal charged towards me, another one sprang out of nowhere and they started to fight. I dropped to the floor and shuffled backwards. Trying to get away from the fighting scene.Just then another person appeared. I recognized him as the guard who asked me not to leave. The wolves escaped the moment he appeared which shocked me. Why were they running away from a normal human being like me? What the hell is wrong with t
Alison’s POVThey stopped at Vandyke’s house, not a hospital like I had expected them to. When I saw the building, no one had to tell me it was his. It was massive, like four houses merged together, yet he was single, and Cory didn’t even live with him. Poor guy.I was the first to climb down wondering what the guards were going to do next, they also climbed down and brought his stretcher out, then just like that they set him down in the driveway, dressed his wound, and bandaged it - no hospital.I watched in disbelief as he sat down, though under anaesthesia, gave orders like he hadn’t been shot. Who was this guy? Was he not rather… weird? Who was he?I watched as they placed a sling over his shoulder and then he got up like it was all alright. He swaggered to the entrance and then stopped and turned around, “First aid lady! Come here!” he called out to me, then proceeded to enter the building. I followed him and one of his guards into the house.“Follow me.” He instructed me again
Alison’s POVI got a message that my application to volunteer at the games had been accepted but here was the problem, I had been accepted for both ring girl and first aid. I guess it was my lucky day. I lied about having a background in first aid just to have a better chance at getting on the team because I was afraid that I wasn’t attractive enough to be selected as a ring girl.I took all my ID’s and my next destination was the King’s Carlton stadium which was not too much of a journey from where I lived.“Are you Alison Quinn?” One of the organizers of the boxing event asked.“Yes sir!” I responded.“Good! You can be the ring girl for the first match, go to the dressing room and get some makeup done.” He instructed.“Okay sir.” I replied, followed a group of girls into a dressing room. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Vandyke but there was no sign of him. So I waited patiently for my turn to get my makeup done.I looked at myself in the mirror and gasped, I always thought I wasn
Alison’s POVHis question left me hanging, I didn’t know what to say in response because yes, he was the target but how do you let your prey know that you are planning to attack them? Weren’t you setting yourself up for failure?I smiled, “You’re right, Mr. Vandyke. You are my target.” I paused and folded my arms. “But not for the reason you think.” I mustered courage and walked closer to him. " Your son embarrassed my mother and me, and when I came to the office, it was to embarrass him too at his workplace, but then I found out he was the son of the CEO. It would be better if I embarrassed you instead. I don’t like Cory. I could never.”I lied with so much confidence that I’m sure he believed me this time.“Embarrass me?”“Yes sir, you clearly didn’t raise your son right! He got dumped by a woman and he decided to embarrass her and her daughter at her workplace!” Roberta added more spice to the story. Well, maybe too much spice because the man’s face changed and I could swear his ey
Alison’s POV “To meet Vandyke again, I think you should go to his office with your application letter, tell him you considered his job offer,” Roberta suggested excitedly as if it were that easy. “Don’t forget that I don’t want to see Cory every day, the workplace is a no-go area for me. And besides you should see him at work, he’s 10 times scarier than he was at the club.” I argued. “Then how are we going to meet him? He banned us from coming to his country at night.” Roberta queried me. Roberta and I weren’t close way back in the university, we both dropped out in the second year and we still weren’t close. We both met each other at the same workplace and that’s how our friendship picked up but she has never been to my apartment nor have I been to hers. But look at us bonding over some man we want to trap. “Can’t you forget about Cory and just go to his workplace?…” “Even if I do, I might not get to see him. You know he’s a very busy man, I heard that he barely even goes to th
Ralph’s POV I didn’t know where Charlotte’s shop was, so I had to call one of Cory’s bodyguards. While I waited for a response, Anne linked me again. “Ralph! Where are you? Can you come over? Melody wants to give you another chance.” I chuckled. That lady didn’t make it to my bed, so I expected her to count herself lucky and leave me alone. It looks like she wants to join my long list of one-night stands. Before you say that I’m a bad guy you should understand me. I own a successful company, and I’m a successful politician too. All of this with no wife so I’m the target of most women. Everyone wants to try their luck with me but unfortunately, nobody seems to be a perfect fit, it’s like I am cursed. “Not now Anne, I’m in the middle of something.” I linked back. “Saturdays are your resting days, don’t lie to me. Should I bring her over?” She linked again. Damn it Anne never knew when to stop. It’s like my singleness bothered her more than it bothered me. “Leave me alone before
