Freya's pov

“Don't marry him," Ravenna, my sister, had said when I told her that I was leaving with Thorne. I was so confused that day. Why wasn't she happy for me?

“He chose me," I shot back. "He chose me as his mate.”

She wouldn't know what it was like to be chosen for once because, even before she found her mate, she already had wolves asking for her hand in marriage.

But nobody wanted me. Except Thorne. She stared at me like I was drunk in love and couldn't think properly.

Then she laughed. “I am telling you… men like him don't choose girls like you for love”

I didn't listen. I thought she was jealous, that for once, I had something she wanted.

It was so clear in front of me right now.

“You are making a scene," Thorne said.

I clutched my chest. “Just tell me it's not yours and I'd pretend none of this ever happened. Tell me…”

"It's mine,” he said proudly, not a hint of remorse in his voice. So when I had been working so hard to give him an heir, he was… he was with my sister?

“I was trying," I said, my throat tightening. My hands curled into fists. “I was doing my best for you."

His face hardened. “You should have tried harder"

Harder? I shook my head. I couldn't believe it. Ravenna stalked forward, wrapping her arms around his arms with a smile on her face. “He deserves a stronger heir"

Thorne bent down to kiss her forehead. “Yes and I finally have one"

It was so hard to see that they weren't even hiding it anymore.

"I am still your Luna,” I said but even I couldn't believe it.

"I took you in Freya. When no one else would. When your own father could not find a single suitor willing to look twice at a wolfless girl who had nothing to offer. I chose you.”

He continued. "I gave you my name. I gave you a pack. I gave you a title that women twice your worth would have knelt for”

He fisted my hair into his hands and yanked me bankwards. I fell to the ground. The elixir in my hand fell too but thankfully, it didn't break. "And what did you give me in return?”

The silence between us stretched. I didn't give him an answer but then I didn't need to.

“Nothing." Ravenna had answered him.

I moved to take the elixir but Ravenna got there before me. She smashed the bottles with her heels.

“You are pathetic," she screamed, still smashing an already broken bottle. My last hope. “Don't tell me you are still trying! I have given him what you failed at"

I looked at Thorne. “The moon goddess…”

"The moon goddess has forgotten you,” Thorne said.

“How… How could you do this?” The words came out broken. I hated how small they sounded. " After everything you promised me. After…”

Thorne pulled the car door open for Ravenna. Ravenna stared back at me and smiled.

“Go home, Freya," he said, without looking at me. “Stop embarrassing yourself. You should be grateful I didn't reject you publicly, at least this way you still have your title”

He entered the car and drove off and I tried.. I really tried to understand when my marriage ended. When had my sister taken my place?

The tears came before I could stop it. I let myself feel the pain because this was the last time I would ever cry for him. Maybe if I had been born like Ravenna. Maybe if I had a strong wolf. Maybe if men looked at me the way they looked at her. Maybe my life wouldn't feel like something I had to beg to keep.

Maybe it was better being a rogue after all. Rogues were wolves who had no pack and no protection. I didn't think I was ready but if I stayed, I would slowly disappear. I would watch Ravenna take my place at every table. I would become a shadow in my own marriage.

Never, I couldn't stay. When I got back to the pack house, I began to fold my dresses. My shoes. Everything that I knew I needed.

I wiped my tears. My body shook as I moved but I didn't stop. I couldn't.

I was already done packing when the door suddenly slammed open.

“Freya!"

Thorne stood at the entrance, his face paled the moment he saw my suitcase.

"What are you doing?” He demanded, the veins on his neck popping out.

"I am leaving," I said, trying so hard to steady my voice.

“You are what?"

“You have Ravenna. You have your here. There is no reason for me to stay," I said.

He growled, pushing me against the wall. He strangled my neck with his hand. “Who gave you permission?"

“I.. don't need permission to leave," I forced out of my mouth as his hands on my neck tightened. I couldn't breathe. I tried to swat his hands away but he was so… so heavy.

“You are my mate," he whispered. “You do not walk out on me"

He released his hands, throwing me. My waist hit the edge of the table and I screamed out.

I swallowed. “I, Freya Asher, reject you Thorne, Alpha of Ruinfang as my mate."

The pain ripped into my chest at once. I clutched my chest tightly. Thorne sucked in a breath, his jaw tightening.

Then he bent over me. "I reject your rejection”

My chest fell.

"You will stay here,” he continued. "Until I decide what to do with you.”

"Let me go, please”

"You don't get to want things, Freya,” he said and walked out, slamming the door behind him and with it my chance of leaving.

Freya's pov “Hold still, Freya. You are going to ruin the braid," Sera said. “I am holding still" Her fingers paused in my hair and she met my eyes in the mirror. “You are holding still? You look like you are having a full conversation inside your head," she sighed. "Whatever you are arguing with yourself about, stop. You look beautiful. Focus on that.”I looked at the woman in the mirror and she was unrecognizable. She had colour in her cheeks and her hair had been braided back in the style of the royal pack's ceremonial tradition, with small flowers that Sera had spent forty minutes weaving into my hair. And that person was surprisingly me. I was putting on an expensive but simple ivory dress, falling to the floor and leaving my collarbone bare, revealing a faint crescent birthmark “Sera"“Mm"“Do you think…” I stopped and tried again. "Do you think he is ready for this?”Her hands slowed slightly. "My brother has been ready for very little in his life and has done it anyway.”

Mine. Mine. Mine.My wolf screamed over and over, like she had been waiting inside me to scream that word. The Alpha king's grip tightened around my hand. I looked up at him and found that he was already looking at me, his eyes wide. My knees buckled and I quickly caught the bar of the cage with my free hands and held on to it. “Hey," he said, voice closer now. "Are you okay?”My wolf.My wolf.I had a wolf!I made a sound I couldn't recognize, it was something between a laugh and a sob. I refused to break in front of this man, this stranger, this King whose hand was the solid thing in the world right now. My wolf was gold. I could feel her pressing against the inside of me. She was large and she was also angry at the years of silence but also beneath that anger was relief. “I was always here," my wolf said. “You just couldn't hear me"Tears welled up in my eyes. “What is your name?"“Eliza," my wolf replied. “Freya," The King called, snapping me out of my thoughts. I turned tow

Freya's pov Hours, days and weeks passed and Thorne hadn't come to check on me, except for the maids who had brought in food. He locked me in my room, scared that I would leave him.I prayed for a miracle and one day, the miracle came in form of his beta. He took one look at me and hissed. “Luna"“Don't call me that," I replied weaklyHe stared at me for a moment, eyes roaming my body. "The Alpha is away tonight. He went for a council meeting"I stared at the opened door. "Why should I care?”"Leave. You should leave.”I blinked. My heart started to beat faster. “Really?"He nodded.“What if… "“Just go," he said. “And don't ever come back"I stood up on my feet and moved to my suitcase. I blinked the tears away. I was finally leaving.“Why are you helping me?"He looked away. “This place isn't safe for you anymore. I kept the doors opened for you…you have one hour. After that, I can't protect you anymore"My throat tightened. "If he finds out …"“He won't," he cut in immediately. “

Freya's pov“I'm really sorry. I know you were hoping for a different result but the test shows you are not pregnant," the doctor said softly, like she was scared it would break me. Maybe it did. It wasn't exactly the news I was expecting. I couldn't feel myself for a moment. I just felt numb, waiting for her to tell me she was wrong and they were not my result. “Are you sure?" I asked, my chest tightening. I couldn't even look at her face because if I did, I might cry. I was so close. How could I be empty again? What was wrong with me? Is it wrong to want something that was mine? To be called a mother? She nodded. "Yes. Luna Freya. I am sure.”My hands trembled under the table. Luna? It almost felt like a mockery. I was nothing but a disappointment. A disgrace. I still couldn't believe what I was hearing as I whispered. “But I have been feeling sick. I even fainted two days ago…I thought… I thought maybe…”I was finally carrying his pup. My mate's pup. Alpha Thorne. I would
