“What’s happening Gareth?” Cassandra yelled over the noise of the arrows that kept piercing the woods. “Who are these people shooting?”
“The cavalier,” Gareth held his head as one of the arrow found its mark on the ceramics on the table and shattered it. The shreds came raining down on them. “I tried to warn you but you wouldn’t listen.”
“You are a fool, Gareth,” Cassandra yelled.
“Yes Assandra, my foolishness has kept me alive till this day,” Gareth grunted.
“It is Cassandra you, godforsaken drunkard.” The scholar yell
“Let me,” Bola emerged from the other side of the inn.Vera stepped back as the muscular man placed his hands on the door and whispered some words which she did not know.“Let’s go,” He said and trothed into the street.“What was that?” Vera asked.“Oh, I just sealed the door with a little spell. It won’t wear off until tomorrow.”“Wait.” Vera paused in her wake, she just could not manage the feeling that were jutting in her racing heart. “You are a mage?&rdquo
“This is just fruitless.” Cassandra kicked the empty air. Her shoulders were hanging low and the looks on her face portrayed the frustration that was welling up in her stomach. Bola on the other hands was biting his nails and avoiding eye contact with anyone. He hugged himself leaned on one of the white wall, still trying to assimilate the shock and the naked truth.“Does that means the prophecy is useless?” Gareth asked. His eyes shifted from Bola to Cassandra. His hands were buried on the pocket of his coat and nothing painted a picture of uneasiness around the him. Even the lines on his face was straighten out, making it difficult to read the neutral expression.“No, Gareth, it means that we have borne a prophecy that had only foretol
“Oh, yes you do.” Gareth stood akimbo, using his tongue to lick the smiles from his upper lips, “I am not moving a step further, unless you three promise to involve me in every matters related to the prophesy.”“You must be dumb, Gareth. We are not going to the library because of some prophecy about the Emperor’s son. We are going to help the Watcher find some scroll,” Cassandra groaned, still trying to conceal the anger under her clapping teeth.“Oh, I see.” Gareth shrugged and his eyes s
“I heard you the first time. What I still cannot comprehend is the fact that you want to keep Gareth on the shadow. Don’t you want to tell him you are his mother?” Vera’s shoulders dropped but she said nothing, so Bola continued, taking that as a good sign.“I mean, he has been searching for purpose and meaning to his life. That was why he stole the prophesy in the first place. He is looking for something to give to the Emperor. Something to please him, so as to be accepted back into the cohorts of the Cavalier. And now here you are, his mother.”“Please,” came the soft words of the Watcher, “This is not easy on me too. But I will tell him eventually. On my own terms.”
Bola gnashed his teeth and stretched forth his muscular hands to the direction of the Cavalier. He felt the familiar sensation as the hot flames burst out of his hands and engulfed the man who had shot the arrow. Screams followed the fizzle and sizzle of burning flesh as the man waxed into nothing, leaving behind the black smokes to testify his ones existing presence.“Vera…” Bola turned back to his friends when he heard the sob of Cassandra who was already in the valley of tears. Her cloths were drenched in the pool of the red sticky fluid that was oozing out from the older woman’s body. The arrow was still in the Vera’s chest, causing more blood to flow out
Bola wiped the tears from his own eyes, not able to hold them back any longer. Seeing the reunion between the mother and son made his chest ach. He just could not shut the doors of his emotions as his mind flashback into the past, in that night when his whole family was destroyed by the children of the night. His clan had been so weak to defend themselves. They had been so powerless.“Here,” Vera’s word brought his wandering thoughts back into his body. She had was holding a small book in her hands now, a book which she gave to Gareth.“It contains my memory.” Vera smiled and parted Gareth’s cheeks, leaving a smear of red trail on them.“Please don&
“You ruined our lives. I said it before, you are nothing but trouble,” Richard shouted.Ginika’s stomach tightened as he studied the other children who were staring at him like some kind of god. Betty had hidden them in the forest, the same forest which was becoming like home ever since he was kicked out from the brotherhood. It was easily to see through the expression that lurked in the face of the children. They looked haggard and frightened and five years starving.“You hear me?” Richard’s voice rung in his ears but he tried his best to ignore the boy. “You are nothing but evil. Nemesis will fall on yo
“This is ridiculous.” Richard chuckled, “The funniest joke in the history of the empire.”“You are a coward Richard. And your strength Is in your tongue. The only thing you are good at is staring up strife among brethren.”“Is that what you think,” Richard flared and hurried up to Gabriel, but the other children where just in time to hold the two from ripping their throats apart.“Richard.” Ginika said, and all eyes turned to him. “I don’t care if you hate me
