THE WEDDING.
Giordana.
We arrived at the Trinity Church, New York, where the wedding was being held.
To say it was magnificent was an understatement, it screamed money from the white chandeliers hanging down from the ceiling to the glistening marble tiles and mirrored windows. It was simply breathtaking and radiated holiness.
I wasn't surprised though, in fact, I'd be surprised if the place was not this glamorous as both the bride and the groom were from rich backgrounds.
Asher Walters, her father is a well-known politician while her mother Madelyn was a supermodel in her youth.
The wedding was about to start so we took our positions; the bridal train and groom's men of course.
When we were all set the groom walked in. Drew looked really handsome in his wine-colored tuxedo, white inner shirt with black pants, and glossy black shoes. He was grinning from ear to ear as he took his position in front of the priest.
Then the wedding anthem "Here comes the bride" was played in the background as Ella walked in arm in arm with Uncle Asher.
She looked absolutely gorgeous I almost squealed. I mean, I know I saw her before the wedding but there was something about this moment that made her look so magically beautiful.
There she was, walking down the aisle, her pure white off shouldered princess gown, laced with lots and lots of sequins and beads that glistened under the rays of light seeping through the windows of the church.
With all sincerity, she looked so angelic the moment felt really surreal. Just looking at her walking towards us brought back lovely memories which caused my eyes to well up but I blinked it back instantly.
I am really going to miss her though.
Uncle Asher handed her over to Drew with a satisfied nod. Walking away from there, he joined his wife who was wiping away her tears.
I forced the tears gathering in my eyes back to their source once again. The ceremony started and when it got to the part where they were to say their vows, Drew screamed, "Yes, yes, yes, I do!" Like a child begging for sweets and the hall echoed with sounds of laughter.
When Ella said yes, Drew grinned so widely I thought his heart was going to burst open any moment from then.
After the reciting of vows and the 'you may kiss the bride' part, I went to meet my mother who was congratulating the couple.
"Mum!" I squealed hugging her. She chuckled happily, hugging me back with the same amount of enthusiasm.
"I missed you so much, baby," she chirped.
"Same here mum, where's Dad?"
"Right here," I heard from behind me.
Letting out another delighted squeal, I pulled away from my mother and threw myself at my dad.
My parents, George and Clarissa Quinton were the light of my life. Being the only child, I was close to both of them.
My father owns a telecommunication company while my mother is a well-known fashion designer so I also came from a wealthy background.
Unfortunately and fortunately, I did not venture into either business as my dream was to be a medical doctor, which I am.
"Your friend is married now, you should be thinking of taking that step soon. Right honey?" My Mum teased and my dad nodded in agreement.
"Not again mom!" I groaned and they chuckled.
I spent some more time catching up with my parents.
Excusing myself, I went to use the restroom, as well as to retouch my makeup and on breezing out, I collided with a hard surface resulting in a hard fall on my butt.
Muttering some swear words under my breath, I picked myself up from the embarrassing position to face the person that hit me.
Looking up, I was met face to face with a really handsome man. Scratch that, we weren't faced to face at all. I looked like a small child standing in front of him. I was about a few inches below his shoulder, almost close to his elbow.
I glared at him, expecting an apology. Instead, he was clearly ogling me.
'what's even there to ogle in me?'
Clearing my throat, I confronted.
"If you're done ogling me, I'd like an apology for bumping into me."
Staring expectantly at him for an apology, I was caught off guard when he let out a burst of satirical laughter.
"Excuse me, sir, what is so amusing in the statement I just made?" I demanded.
"The fact that you think I'm ogling your sorry ass," he retorted haughtily.
'What the fuck.'
"Excuse me?"
"Excuse yourself," he answered.
Okay, I take back my thought that he's handsome. This man is freaking rude with a disgustingly sour character!
Starting to get outraged at his arrogant attitude, I controlled myself from lashing out and calmly replied to him.
"With all due respect sir, it's common ethics that when you bump into a person, you should apologize. I want to believe you are literate enough to know that."
"And if I do not apologize what can you do?"
At that point, I lost every iota of self-control.
"Listen here, you arrogant fool. You hit a human being and instead of apologizing you keep spewing bullshit from that septic tank you call a mouth. I wonder if you even have functioning brain cells in that empty container up there.
I really do not want to create a scene so please do not rile me up any further. As for the apology you can keep it, I'm no longer interested." Satisfied that I gave him a piece of my mind, I sidestepped him, intending to go back to my seat which failed as the man pulled me back by my waist making me land on his hard chest.
Gasping in shock, I lifted my hand to smack his face but he held it.
"Release me now," I gritted.
"What makes you think I will release you after running that smart mouth of yours?" He whispered in my ear.
I felt myself go weak in the knees at the intimate position in which he held me.
Cursing myself for the lack of focus, I pushed him with all my might but the man did not budge.
"Who do you think you are? let me go now!" I spat out in rage.
'How dare he?'
Unaffected by my outburst, he smirked.
"Someone needs to teach you to control it. I'll be the best person to do that," he mused.
"You must be crazy."
"I've been called worse baby. l'll forgive you for your insolence if you apologize," he demanded, sporting an intimidating look.
"Over my dead body!" I scoffed, pretending not to be affected.
He peered at me, his lips set into a thin line. I stared back at him with the same intensity.
Seconds later, his gaze was moving from my eyes to my lips.
An idea popped into my head. I licked my lips, causing his eyes to settle on my lips alone.
Seeing that I successfully diverted his attention, I kneed him in the groin and he let go of me instantly with a pained growl.
"Serves you right," I sneered walking away.
"You will regret this, I swear," He gritted behind me.
Scoffing, I stopped and turned back to face him, "Make me."
And he did just that...
PhilipI stood up from the bed, gently tugging my sleeping wife off my chest as I heard the loud wails coming from the nursery. Not wanting to disturb her as I knew how tired she was, I picked a t-shirt from the wardrobe, slid on the flip flops by the bedside, and walked briskly towards the direction of the noise. The boys were awake. Nate was standing in his cot using the edge for support with a flushed face and using his plump little fingers to rub his eyes while Nick was sitting in his cot.I swiftly took Nate into my arms, patting his back and he held me tight. Nick started to wail louder this time.Sighing, I bent and took him into my other arm. They liked the competition. If I gave Nate attention, Nick would start to cry and Vice versa."Why didn't you wake me, Kenny?" I turned to see Dana walking into the room with sunken eyes."Cause I ca
BLESSINGSGiordana."Philip, help me with the breast pump please, from their bag," I called. After getting no reply for a while, I went to the living room to get it myself only to see the most refreshing scene.Philip was laying on his back on the three-seater couch, nodding off while the golden blonde-haired children lay on either side of his chest, sleeping peacefully with their father.Yes, they were Daddy's boys. They did all sorts of things with Philip and most times I was jealous. They were also very mischievous.I couldn't help but remember that day, eight months ago when I delivered my little bundles of joy. The pain and discomfort were intense, but it was all worth it in the end.Whenever I thought about it, I would gladly go through the pain again to birth such beautiful souls. When
THE LONG AWAITED ARRIVAL.Giordana."Please turn to the left for an enema," a dark-skinned nurse said. I had already changed into a light green hospital gown.Philip was holding my hands as the nurse came in. I signaled for him to leave the room. He was reluctant until I nudged him again before he finally agreed."This will be uncomfortable, try to hold it in for at least five minutes."I nodded and lay on my side then she inserted it. It truly felt uncomfortable as she said.It wasn't up to two minutes when I stumbled to the restroom to free my bowels. Philip was already in the room when I got back, then I was told it was time to be shaved.I laid on the bed with my back and a thick blanket was draped over my stomach down to my legs which were propped on either side of the bed.How embarrassing it was to have someone else
BEAUTIFUL BUT TRAGIC.Philip.I stared at the sleeping form of my wife, brushing away the strands of hair that covered her face to get a better view. Her eyes were sunken, her nose was blotched and there were frown lines on her forehead.I felt a pang in my heart because of the way the pregnancy was taking a toll on her. Most nights she couldn't sleep. She would cry so much from the pain she was feeling. Her back, her legs, her waist, and even her ribs.We visited the hospital and we were told that it was as a result of the movement of the babies.I wished the babies would just come out so that she could be free from the pain."Kenny? Why aren't you asleep?" I heard her raspy voice and focused my attention on her."I'm not sleepy, I want to watch you sleep," I replied with a smile.
FALLING INTO PLACEGiordana."One minute," was the reply I got.Shortly after, the door was opened and I came face to face with Mikey. His face was flushed and his crystal blue eyes were a shade darker."Can I come in?" He nodded and I stepped into the room.I marveled at how arranged it was. There was a bookshelf that was stacked neatly at one corner, then the bed was laid with ivory sheets and a patterned coffee brown comforter."Can I sit?" I turned to face him when I asked. He nodded again.I patted the space beside me and he sat."So... I've never seen you this angry. Care to share? I should at least know what's bothering my brother, right?"He let out a sigh, stroking his light stubble."Just, normal issues. Relationships and stuff.""Expatiate.""Okay." He heaved another sigh. "I kinda... You see... your friend, Marla... She's Uhm..."I cocked a brow at the mention of her name. Mar
HAPPY.Giordana.With my eyes still closed, I tried to move towards the source of warmth that had me enveloped throughout the night, only to feel a cold surface.I opened my eyes and scanned the room for him but he was not in.I attempted to sit up on the bed, clutching the comforter to my bare body but my bump was an obstacle.Letting out a frustrated groan, I lay back on the bed, feeling my tears threatening to spill.Did Philip leave? He probably didn't like my performance or something?Of course, who would sleep with a heavily pregnant woman and enjoy it?Did I forgive him too easily? I confessed my love for him. How much more gullible can I be?The door to the room was pushed open, interrupting my thoughts."Babe, I prepared breakfast for you, but first you'll have to brush your teeth a
