-ZOYA-

"Spy."

"Omega."

People whisper all around me, parting like they can't bear to stand near me as I am pushed through their middle.

My face is matted with dirt and dried tears. My wrists are bound behind me. I am dragged all the way from the pack house, and now I am forced to the city square, a huge gazebo spanning about 10,000 square metres where the whole pack gathers under the setting sun.

This is it. I will finally die like I should have 16 years ago. No matter how hard I run, my past always comes back to haunt me.

In the center of the square, on the stone platform sits Alpha Xander, dressed in black. Jason stands next to him, holding a silver sword on a platter.

This is it... I think.

The men force me down to a kneeling position. Xander won't look at me. He keeps his face carefully neutral, even as the whisperers quiet and Castellan Blackthorn stands up.

"Zoya Ironwood, daughter of Sergei of the Red Fang pack. You have been tried and found guilty of treason and deceit."

Liar! I think, burning with a sudden anger. There is no trial. I haven't committed treason.

The pack members talk in hushed voices. Some of the powerful families are smirking.

"...Isn't that Alpha Xander's Luna?"

"Luna? Don't insult the Alpha. She's nothing but a nobody..."

"A traitor!"

The whispers grow louder, some shuffle to get a better view. I see Scar somewhere in the crowd. Our eyes lock for a brief moment. His face is unreadable, then he is lost among the crowd again. I know he believes me to be the monster I am accused of. If only I could explain to him...

"Kill her! Kill the traitor."

My eyes burn with fresh tears, but I don't let them fall. Instead, I raise my head high.

"The only crime on my head is being my father's daughter," I say. My voice comes out raspy and dry, but I manage to sound firm.

"I was just a kid! You punish me for the sins I know nothing of. This isn't you, Xander... Please." I barely beg anyone. And yet I find myself repeating the word more times in a single day than I have in my lifetime.

"Your father's daughter indeed," Xander spits, his voice sounding distant. And then I know I have lost him.

"You have the traitor's blood. You lied to your Alpha, deceived us all. You will die like a traitor."

"I, Alpha Xander of the Shadow pack, reject Zoya Ironwood as my Luna and a member of the pack."

The moment he says that, something snaps inside me. The skin above my thigh where he marked me burns. I double down, shutting my eyes.

Rejected.

Rejected.

Rejected....

Red lights burn in my head. I bite my lower lip to keep myself from screaming as an excruciating pain washes over me.

No...how could it be. Xander is my mate....

"For your crimes, you will die at the hands of the Silver sword," Castellan continues, gazing down at me like I am a piece of trash.

From the corner of my eyes, Jason steps forward with the silver sword.

No.

I don't want to die.

I struggle against the bonds on my wrists. The more I struggle, the more the sharp edges eat into my skin, weakening me. I realize that it must be infused with wolf's bane.

I stare up at them, feeling a surge of hatred. For the pack, for Xander, for all of them. Xander gives Jason a subtle nod and turns around, walking off the stage.

The air feels still with the hundreds of breaths that are held as Jason stands before me, raising up the silver sword by the hilt. I glance away, wishing I could shield my eyes from the bright light.

"Zoya Ironwood, daughter of a traitor, outcast of the Red Fang pack...."

But he never gets to finish his sentence.

At that moment, the sword flies out of his hand, impaling itself on the stone ground at the entrance of the square.

My head snaps up immediately. A hush falls over the crowd. I feel the air grow colder.

Standing at the entrance is a hooded figure, the silver sword embedded in the ground at his feet. A huge white wolf stands beside him, but my eyes are locked on the scythe in his hand.

The stranger from yesterday.

No, no... I'd rather die here.

He takes off the hood, revealing a pair of golden eyes. Long black hair cascades down his shoulders. People instinctively part, sensing the immense power he possesses.

He walks slowly, every step calculated, till he stops in front of me.

Alpha Xander stands frozen in place, staring at the stranger like he sees a ghost.

"Who are you!" He breaks out of his daze, stepping forward, clutching the sword by his side.

There is no reply.

The stranger doesn't even look his way.

Instead, his eyes are locked on me, and in a cold, indifferent voice, like he is pointing out a pre-established fact, he says, "The omega is mine."

-ZOYA-Attack? What attack? "I'm leaving!" I blurt out, completely fed up.Ragnar turns to face me for the first time, with a look of pity. "I don't think you understand how that blood pact works yet, little wolf." I don't care, I want to say, but the words feel stuck in my throat. Ragnar stares at me with such intensity that made me want to grab a hacksaw, tear the ground open and jump inside. "Allow me to explain it to you." He steps closer. I feel rooted to the ground, aware that he is now closer than I would have liked. He takes my bruised hand, clicking his tongue in mild annoyance as he assesses the level of injury. "You are now bound to me in a master-servant relationship. You can't disobey direct orders from me. Your limbs and veins will fight you, and if you force it," his eyes meet mine, golden and devoid of emotion, "your blood would slowly flow backward, giving you a very long and interesting death." I stare at him in shock. It can't be.He was only trying to scare

  • GO ROGUE    CHAPTER 5: NO ESCAPE

-ZOYA-I stare down at my wrists, mind replaying Ragnar's almost gentle movements as he wrapped a bandage over the cut while I stared at him, unable to think. The room is empty but still feels cold, like it couldn't quite shake off the presence of the monster that was just in it. "Bastard." My hands curl into a fist. Just what the hell was he? I grab the knife he kept on the table. It feels colder now. The same weapon that just cut through my skin. My hand trembles slightly as I strap it to my belt.I still can't shake away the fact that I was so powerless. That was what scared me. Not the deal, not his closeness. "I need to get away from here, fast!' I mutter to myself, but even as the thought crosses my mind, a vein in my hand tingles. I clutch my wrist, gritting my teeth through the pain. What was happening to me?I can't show weakness. No, not again. Somehow I have to find a way out. I have to survive. Stumbling out of the room, I follow the faint light coming from the end of

-ZOYA- "Bogus! That girl is a liar and a spy. You must be one of our enemies that she's conspiring with." Castellan steps forward, jabbing his index finger at the stranger. His golden eyes droop with boredom. No one sees him move, but with a flick of his wrist, the representative of the Blackthorn family is thrown several meters into the air, slamming into the wall, and the scythe embeds itself in the wall, just above him as though to say, you could have lost your neck just now. I gulp, goosebumps rising on my skin. Why is he standing up for me? More importantly, what could he want from me? "Does anyone else have an objection?" He asks casually. Alpha Xander steps back, his eyes wary. "What the hell are you?" The stranger grins, the angle of the sunset lighting a part of his face, making his grin look sinister. "I go by many names. But you can call me Ragnar Thorne." Alpha Xander stiffens, his face going pale, like he recognizes the name, and more glaringly, fears it. "

  • GO ROGUE    Chapter 2: UNMASKED

Chapter 2— UNMASKED -Zoya- Sunlight, there's a lot of it. It pours straight through my window. I shut my eyes tighter. In my head, I'm running through a thicket. The farther I run, the closer the trees are pressed together, until my skin scrapes against the thorns and I stumble over a ledge, out of breath. The smell of earth suffocates me, but not nearly as much as the anxiety and demons I'm running from. I catch myself just before I hit the floor. I keep running. And suddenly, a tall hooded figure is chasing me, walking slowly, counting his every step and swinging a scythe in his free hand. "Are you still alive, omega?" I jolt up straight, my eyes snapping open. Cold beads of sweat line my forehead. The sunlight wasn't part of the nightmare. I shield myself from the bright light, feeling a dull tingling between my eyes. My neck aches. I realize the position I'm in. I fell asleep on the chair next to my bed, laptop shut on the table after another fruitless attempt to track do

  • GO ROGUE    chapter 1: The Outcast

16 Years Later -ZOYA- Blood drips from the side of my knuckles, sending a tingling sensation up my arm. I straighten up but immediately wish I hadn't. My vision blurs and I stumble back. "47… 48, 49…" Scarface counts. I have less than 20 seconds left on the clock. Today's challenge was surviving. And so far, I was killing it. I twist to the side, sending a kick flying in the air. My muscles strain with the effort, but I grit my teeth, watching with little relief as my opponent lands on the floor with a dull thud. Fighting—it was part of my life now. As an insignificant wolf without a background, there was only one choice: to cower in fear and let people step over you. Not me, though. In the shadow rings, I made a name for myself where no one had to know my background. "Naive girl. Sooner or later, your lies will catch up with you and the Alpha will see how well you've bewitched him!" The man on the ground spat, rolling to the side, coughing out blood. "So what if th
