Lin Wei sat quietly in the high-ceilinged waiting area of Tiaorun Development Group, her file of credentials resting on her lap. The polished marble beneath her feet reflected the luxury around her—bright lights, mirrored panels, and the constant hush of power moving through polished shoes and tailored suits.

She wasn’t the only applicant. Four others sat nearby—two of them rehearsing lines under their breath, one checking her makeup in her phone, and one man staring blankly at the wall. No one looked at anyone else.

When her name was finally called, Lin Wei rose calmly and followed the assistant through a corridor of frosted glass.

The interview was clean, structured, and respectful.

Two HR executives sat across from her. A third person, Li Wen, who didn't introduce himself, remained standing behind them, tablet in hand, his gaze unreadable.

“You graduated from Country W National University?” one of the executives asked.

“Yes,” she replied evenly.

“You worked privately as a house manager and personal assistant for the Jin family?”

“Yes. I handled schedules, confidential errands, reports, and filing.”

The executives exchanged glances.

“You’re composed. Methodical. Quiet.”

The other added, “We have a few open administrative spots, but nothing permanent. If you’re open to a trial placement—”

“She’ll be contacted,” Li Wen cut in calmly. “Dismiss her.”

Lin Wei blinked once, surprised by the abrupt end. But she rose, bowed respectfully, and left the room without a word.

---

Upstairs, in an office hidden behind mirrored walls, Sheng Tiaorun stood in silence.

“She didn’t hesitate,” Li Wen said, standing beside him after the meeting. “Not once. No fidgeting. No bragging.”

“She’s not like the others,” Tiaorun replied quietly, though his expression remained still.

Li Wen tilted his head. “Do you want to—”

“Assign her.”

“Sir?”

“As my second secretary,” Tiaorun said. “No announcement. Quietly. First thing tomorrow.”

Li Wen didn’t question it. But he made a note.

---

The following morning, a low murmur moved through the executive wing like a passing breeze.

“A female secretary?” someone whispered at the coffee machine.

“For him?”

“He’s never kept one before. Not since—well, you know.”

“I heard she came in just yesterday. No recommendations, no agency. Just walked in.”

“She must have something.”

Whispers trailed behind Lin Wei as she walked down the corridor toward the executive floor, guided by Li Wen himself.

She didn’t know what had changed overnight or what's happened. She had received the call early that morning—report to Level 27, executive office wing. Second secretary position. Signed under Sheng Tiaorun.

No explanation. No offer letter. Just quiet placement.

When the doors opened, she stepped into a space of glass, stone, and silence.

Li Wen led her to a minimalist desk near the CEO’s office door.

“You’ll be working here from now on,” he said. “As of now, your primary duties are organization, correspondence, and screening select communication. First secretary handles client-facing operations. You’ll stay internal.”

Lin Wei nodded once. “May I ask… why me?”

Li Wen didn’t answer. He simply looked at her, blinked once, and said, “You were chosen. That’s enough.”

---

Inside his office, Sheng Tiaorun glanced briefly at the security monitor as she settled into her new desk.

She didn’t smile. She didn’t look around like she was impressed. She simply got to work.

He turned away from the screen.

No one needed to know that the moment he saw her in the elevator — silent, composed, unknowingly radiant — something inside him quieted.

But he would never show it.

Not to her.

Not to anyone.

"Swallow the pill" Sheng Tiaroun was wearing a shirt, revealing his ten-pack abs. He looked both wild and rogue. He had a cigarette in his mouth and looked at Lin wei, who had a white pill in her palm. Lin wei stood up from her chair, but her legs went weak when she stepped on the tiles. She quickly held onto the desk before looking at the pill in the man's palm. It was a contraceptive pill, and she knew it. Every time after they had sex, he would prepare a pill for her to take. He was extremely cautious, afraid that she would get pregnant again. But he didn't know that she could never get pregnant again. She raised her head, struggling for a moment before saying, "I just finished my period yesterday, and it's still the safe . Can I not take the pill?" Her body was special, and she was allergic to many drugs, especially contraceptives. Every time she took the pill, her stomach would feel uncomfortable for a long time. "Not take the pill? Lin wei, do you want to have my chil

The hallway was quiet, lit only by warm yellow sconces that stretched shadows across the carpet. Lin Wei stepped out of the elevator with a file still in her hands, her steps light but her body heavy from the day’s stress. The conference had run well into the evening, far beyond the formal dinner. There had been an emergency meeting, two calls from a difficult client, and another last-minute presentation from the investment delegation that left everyone on edge. Throughout it all, she hadn’t sat for more than a few minutes, drank wines to satisfy some clients. Not once did she complain. She was still reviewing a printed email when a calm but unmistakably firm voice broke through the corridor’s hush. “Lin Wei.” She turned. Sheng Tiaorun stood outside the lounge reserved for executives, his suit jacket now draped loosely over his arm, the top button of his shirt undone. Even in that slightly relaxed state, there was something commanding about his presence. “Yes, President Sheng?”

The first rays of morning filtered through the hotel room curtains, casting gentle light across the minimalist interior. Lin Wei stood before the mirror, adjusting the lapel of her soft beige blazer. It was her first out-of-city business trip with Tianrong Group — and not just any trip. This time, she wasn’t just a staff member in the background. She was Sheng Tiaorun’s assistant for the evening. She had barely slept the night before.A car had picked her up early that morning, joining a small delegation from the company. Sheng Tiaorun arrived later by private transfer, and though they exchanged no more than a polite nod at check-in, she couldn’t help but notice how effortlessly he commanded attention even without speaking. Now, hours later, Lin Wei was expected to accompany him to the evening conference dinner. She glanced at her phone: a message from Su Rina wishing her luck and teasing her about being “Madam CEO’s assistant.” Lin Wei smiled softly and tucked the phone away.By 6:30

The afternoon sunlight poured softly into the apartment as Lin Wei tied the last knot on her curtain. A breeze floated through the slightly open window, bringing with it the distant city hum and a sense of quiet peace. The apartment, once unfamiliar and echoing with emptiness, was finally beginning to feel like hers.Wang Xiexie stepped out from the bathroom, shaking her wet hands in the air dramatically. “You didn’t tell me your new place was this cozy!” she said, grinning as she wiped her hands on a towel. “I’m thinking of moving to this estate too.”Lin Wei chuckled. “You’re not even done packing my stuffs , and now you want to move in next door?”“Hey, who said I’d do the moving myself?” Xiexie flopped down on the small couch they had just assembled. “That’s what friends are for—emotional support and carrying furniture.”The two burst into laughter, a sound that warmed the quiet space. They hadn’t had time like this in years. Though they’d gone to secondary school together, life h

The car eased to a gentle stop before the modest apartment tucked into the edge of the estate. The evening sun cast a golden hue over the pavement, washing the neighborhood in soft light. Sheng Tiaorun stepped out first and walked over to Lin Wei’s door, opening it like a silent habit.“Thank you,” Lin Wei said softly as she stepped down, her eyes lingering briefly on the tidy rows of homes around them. The estate was calm, quiet—nothing like the tense pace of the city or the muted luxury of the hotel. This just felt different. Almost... gentle.“You’ll be safe here,” he said, his deep voice matching the calm around them. “The landlord already knows you’re arriving today. He’ll send the keys and receipt tonight.”She blinked, taken aback. “I thought it will take a day or two for it to arrive ?”He didn’t answer directly. “Is that what you think, this is a different place unlike the one's you've been staying at before ,” he said simply, eyes on the

The hotel room had grown familiar. Its beige curtains, the faint hum of the air conditioner, the crisp bedsheets that never held warmth long enough — it had become her temporary world. But now, standing in the center of it with an open suitcase and boxes beside her, Lin Wei realized how little she had truly unpacked.Maybe part of her had known she wouldn’t stay long. The week had been long — files, meetings, late nights. But today, Saturday, offered a rare sliver of quiet. No calls. No texts. No reports. Just her and the soft ticking of the hotel room clock.Until a gentle knock at the door. She opened it to find Sheng Tiaorun standing there — no suit today, just a dark grey shirt rolled at the sleeves, black slacks, and a calm, unreadable expression.“I said I’d help,” he murmured, as though reminding her of a promise she hadn’t dared accept.“You didn’t have to,” she said softly.“I know.”She stepped aside.---They worked in silence at first.Lin Wei folded her clothes with care,
