Not Important

“Are you okay, sir?” I asked worriedly.

I saw the eyes that were initially closed start to open, the expression on the face that was initially pale had returned to normal as before. I led the old man to the side, sat down then I gave him the mineral water that was in my bag and helped him to drink.

“Thank you for saving me, Miss.”

Relieved, that’s what I felt after hearing his voice. My feelings became quite calm now. I didn’t know where his family was, but clearly this old man seemed to be one of the patients from the hospital, it was clear from his clothes.

“Sir, where were you going? Don’t you know the streets are very busy?” I asked again.

The old man took another deep breath. “I’m tired of living, can you believe that, Miss?”

I immediately fell silent, until the old man smiled and patted my shoulder again.

“Indeed, for your age you will never know how tiring life is. Having a chronic disease that never heals, even though the doctor can predict the rest of your life, then seeing your family in chaos, your grandson still alone is something very scary.”

“I know how you feel, sir. Because my mother must also feel the same way as you.” I started to tell my story. “You know, every day my mother always forces me to get married, and it is quite annoying. But now I know, every parent must have thoughts like that, right?”

We finally laughed together, then he looked back at me with his sad gaze.

“May I know your name, Miss? You seem like a pleasant girl.”

“My name is Alexandria Kyle, Sir. I hope next time we will meet again. Tell me which hospital are you a patient in? I will take you there.”

Not long after, a luxury sedan stopped right in front of us. I saw two men dressed so neatly coming with quite panicked and serious expressions.

“Sir, forgive us for being so careless. Let’s go back to the hospital!”

I just stood there for a moment looking at the old man, then he gave me his ID card.

“My name is Bobby Anrez, give me your phone number, Little Miss. Who knows we can have coffee together after this.”

I followed what Big Master Bobby said, I gave him my business card then we both said goodbye to each other.

I was already very late to the office, and this was my first day at work. I didn’t know what sanctions I would receive after this, but I had to get to the company immediately.

“Are you the new employee?”

Sisil, as the manager of the division I worked in, asked with a stern look right when I arrived at my office. She didn’t even allow me to enter.

“Yes, ma’am. I’m new here, and—”

“Do you know how late you were, miss?”

“I—”

“Almost an hour on your first day?”

“Excuse me, ma’am, but—”

“I hope this will be your last day here and leave our company immediately. Because we only need competent employees.”

I was silent like an idiot, I looked at Sisil who had walked away. All the employees there looked at me with cynical looks.

What? I … got fired? This was impossible, right?

“Ma’am, wait, can you give me a chance, I can—“

“Enough! Please leave, are you deaf? You have no chance here.”

I couldn’t say anything after hearing the rejection, this was the most tragic thing in my life. When I was accepted into the biggest news agency in this city which was my dream for a long time, that’s when I was fired even on my first day of work.

Damn, I shouldn’t have helped that old man if in the end I was fired like this. So, what should I do after this? What if Mom asked about my job? What if all my friends found out, especially… Justin?

He will definitely make fun of me after this, and I didn’t know what else to do.

I walked unsteadily, walking through the district where I had to go back home. My mind was completely blank, and my heart felt very complicated right now.

I stopped my steps again, I saw clearly that Justin’s car was at a jewelry store, and when I turned around it was true. Again Justin was not alone, but he was with Lilian. Justin put the ring on Lilian’s ring finger and the woman laughed happily, embracing Justin and kissing Justin right in front of my own eyes.

I recorded the moment with my trembling hands then I sent a piece of the video to Justin. I chose to take a taxi, I shed my tears there. I didn’t even care about the taxi driver who might look at me as a strange woman now.

Even the message was read by Justin, but the man didn’t reply at all. He ignored me and he didn’t think I was important. So, was I the only one who loved alone here?

That night, Justin came to my apartment. He brought a small cake and a bouquet of white roses. He placed it on the table and then he approached me, sat beside me and tried to take my hand to kiss.

However, for some reason my heart felt dead, I felt that whatever he did was no longer interesting. I didn’t have the same burning passion as before, and I didn’t know if all this happened because of his actions.

“I bought you a gift. I didn’t  know what kind of diamond ring do you wanted so I asked Lilian to come  because I’m not good at choosing.”

“How long are you going to keep lying like this, Justin? Aren’t you tired?” I asked finally.

My tears flowed so stupidly and I shouldn’t have cried over my stupidity for loving a traitor like Justin.

“What are you saying, Alexa? Haven’t I told you many times that Lilian and I are nothing?”

“But you two kissed, do you think that’s normal as friends?”

“It was just a joke, you know?”

“What kind of joke? Playing with me, huh?”

Justin then stood up and looked at me with an annoyed expression. “I just got home from work, Alexa.”

“And I got fired from my job.”

“Is this why you’re throwing all the blame on me?”

“Of course not, I’m asking because I saw you with Lilian many times, and you—“

“I’m leaving, I hope you can calm yourself down, Alexa. And stop acting like a child.”

And again, Justin left me alone like a stupid woman, and that made me even more frustrated. I threw the cake he gave me, the flowers and everything Justin gave me. I really couldn’t stand being trapped in the drama and game Justin gave me anymore.
