Chapter 4

Author: Elizabeth
It took me a while to come to terms with the fact that he had just left me there. I stood there for a while before leaving.

I followed them to the infirmary

When I arrived at the healer, the Ex Alpha and Luna Alex's mother and father were already there.

At the sight of them, my steps flattered. I felt stupid as I suddenly realized, everyone knew about Doris except me.

I felt a stab in my chest. My wolf was hurt as I felt like a fool.

When the Alex's Mother saw me, she marched up to me and slapped me across the face.

"If anything happens to my grandpup, I will make sure you regret it!" she shouted.

Alex hurriedly stepped in front of me, shielding me completely behind him.

At the sight of Alex protecting me, the ex Luna's anger flared.

"Alex! Right now she’s threatening your own son! You can not continue to protect her!" The Ex Luna scolded him.

Alex laughed defiantly at when words.

"So what? If the pup’s gone, then it’s gone."

A part of him blamed them for this situation. They had participated in keeping Doris"s pregnancy. If they had not wanted this pregnancy and insisted on keeping the pup, Lily would not have been so hurt.

Alex could not say out loud, but when he saw Doris on the ground in pain, he was slightly relieved.

But this unexpected situation made him begin to regret it.

The healer came out of the room and announced that the pup was fine.

Alex’s father and mother rushed in at once, fussing over Doris with concern.

I noticed that Doris stared at Alex with a pitiful gaze trying to gain his sympathy. This angered my wolf. The thought that she had framed me today made my wolves raged as my anger worsened.

I turned my swollen, red cheek so that Alex could see it,

then said softly:

"I don’t want to stay here."

Alex quickly held me and led me away. I gave her one last glance, but my heart was silent—though she still believed I was just trying to compete with her.

I was glad at least at this moment, Alex still leaned towards me even though I no longer wanted his affection.

It was so clear that Alex though I had accepted the existence of the pup. But I did not bother to correct this. I prepared all I needed to break out bond as mate and slowly packed my things to leave.

I knew that Doris wanted me to bless their new family, so I wanted to leave when she gave birth instead.

But recently, I have been feeling sick. My body felt uncomfortable and my belly hurt sometimes. I had no choice to see the Healer.

She told me I was pregnant. I could not believe my ears. I stood at the corridor with tears in my eyes. Alex and I have been trying to have a pup for years but without success. Finally, this pup came.

I had mixed feelings. The pup was here at the wrong time. I did not want to have any connection with Alex, so getting rid of the pup was the option, but I could not bring myself to accept that idea.

I looked up the next moment and saw Alex walking over with Doris. We had avoided the topic of Doris times past few days and he assumed I had accepted everything.

"Alex, our pup is healthy. I’m so happy," I heard Doris say.

Even though Alex kept his voice neutral, his relaxed brows revealed his true feelings.

"Mm. You’ve taken good care of him," he said calmly.

After chatting without noticing me for a while, Alex saw me and froze. He immediately let go of Doris hand.

"Ah, what I coincidence to meet you here. I will leave now," I said and turned to leave.

Alex grabbed my hand in panic.

"No, let me explain," he said.

"No need to explain," I said, stoping him, "the pup is your responsibility. I understand," I said.

Hearing my words, Doris seemed to light up.

"So you agree to let us keep the pup?" She asked hopefully.

My expression remained blank as I staked at her at our last conversation, she had dropped all pretence and I had no intention of arguing with her.

"Your pup is due in just a few days. Whether I agreed or not—it didn’t matter anymore."

Doris immediately seemed to panic. Her eyes filled with tears as she spoke with a trembling voice; "I… I didn’t mean for this to happen."

None of that matter anymore. Seeing them, the decision has been made. I brushed Alex off, not letting him follow me. Then I walked back to the healer's office.

It was four in the morning on the day Doris went into labour. Knowing I was still awake, efore Alex leaned over and whispered to me before leaving; "Lily… once this pup is born, let’s go back to how things used to be, okay?"

I refused to answer. At this point, this pup now stood between us like a wall. Things would never be the same.

Before he left, I stubbornly called out to him and asked; "Alex, between me and this pup, who would you pick if you had to choose… me or the pup?"

He hesitated, a look of conflict flashing across his face. At that moment, I knew my answer. I shook my head and urged him to go to her.

Seeing the hesitation and conflict flash across his face, I shook my head and urged him to go.

He watched me lie back down in bed and softly said; "Wait for me. I will be back soon, I’ll fix everything when I return," said.

But I no longer needed him to fix anything for me. I would fix it myself.

After he left, I pulled out our fate string I had retrieved from the temple. It was the representation of our bond which tied us together. At that moment, I snapped it in half, packed my bags and left without informing anyone.
