Chapter 11

Emily left, and I was alone again. She had to finish something at the office.

I let out a sigh, still, I couldn’t shake the lingering thoughts and emotions from my encounter with Ryker. His unexpected confession of love had left me in a state of confusion and turmoil. I wasn’t sure how to process it or what it even meant. I had built walls around my heart to protect myself, and Ryker’s words threatened to tear them down.

I patted my neck, feeling much better after I’d eaten, thanks to Emily’s care.

I glanced down and realized I was still in the dress from last night. I had fallen asleep in it. The thought of a shower sounded incredibly tempting, and I knew I needed to freshen up.

With a sigh, I got out of bed and made my way to the bathroom. The warm water cascading down on me was soothing, and I let it wash away the remnants of a restless night. As the water cleansed my body, I hummed and shook my head, trying not to think about last night, trying not to let his face invade my mind.
