The next morning, the three lords set out for the Darkwood pack.
“How sure are you that he would not turn his back on us?” Delta Ralph asked, skeptical about trusting the Lone-wolf Alpha.
“He has no reason to reject, we're offering him expansion,” Alpha Hulbert replied.
“But he's also known for being a lonely wolf, he hates alliances and can't be trusted. I heard he is more dangerous than Stephen.” Ralph protested.
“I doubt that. Even so, leave that to me,” Hulbert said in a thoughtful manner.
“Hmm… okay” Ralph agreed.
They walked in silence until they got to the borders of Darkwood.
They were accustomed by warriors who only let them in after they showed them their identity plaque.
“They will lead you directly to our Alpha,” the leader of the warriors told them while pointing at two of his warriors.
They were given a strap to put on their arm. “Do not take it off. It's the only thing that will protect you inside. If it's not on your wrist, be ready to take whatever comes your way, and we won't be held responsible. Now follow them.”
Darkwood, as its name implied, had structures that stood tall and painted in dark colours.
The street was a sight for sore eyes. They had flowers on both sides of the road and there was not a single litter of dirt on the ground. It seemed like everything was planned and followed by schedule.
Everyone was in black colour, it should have given an eerie scene, but the wolves pulled the shade so well that it brought out the beauty.
They soon arrived at the Alpha's castle. After they were scanned by the guards at the entrance, they were led into the waiting room.
“To what do I owe this visit, men?” Alpha Leo said the moment he came in. He could sense that it had something to do against their king.
“I have a proposition for you,” Alpha Hulbert started.
“Go on.” Leo prompted.
Alpha Hulbert cleared his throat. “You see, our king does not care about us. He even kept a traitor's daughter as his mate, bringing bad luck to our town.”
“What am I to do then? Call him to order?” Alpha Leo demanded with his eyes pierced at them. He could sense their deceit.
“We need to put a more suitable person, and for that, we need your help. We will give you anything you want… just ask, and it's yours.”
“And if I choose the throne?” he asked with a lopsided grin.
The three glanced between themselves. Hulbert cleared his throat and scratched his head. “Uhm…”
Enjoying their squirm, he relaxed at the back of his seat to watch their discomfort.
“Haha, I don't need the throne… neither do I desire anything from you. Go back to whomever you work for.” He said, getting up from his chair.
“We will offer you land to encroach your borders.”
Alpha Leo could sense their desperation. He then sat down back, intrigued by who would dare go against Derek.
“What's the plan?”
“We plan to remove him from the throne with your help, of course. We will feed him poison or overpower him, whatever the situation allows.” Ralph spoke up.
Hulbert glanced at him, silently chastising him for giving out information when they were not sure of his stance.
Alpha Leo noticed the exchange between them and decided to pounce on it.
“We can't work together if there's no trust. I need to meet with your leader before agreeing. If not, there won't be a deal”.
“But I'm the leader,” Hulbert insisted.
“I mean, your actual leader! Don't take me for a fool, Hulbert” Alpha Leo glared at him.
“Okay, we will be back in a week,” Ralph replied, not wanting to piss off Leo.
“I think we're done, then?” They nodded.
“My guards will see you out.” He added and took his leave.
“Are you sure he can be trusted?” Alpha Stephen asked after Hulbert relayed their encounter to him.
“Yes. He seemed driven when he heard we would be given lands. Everyone can be bought, it's just the price that differs”.
“Good. Next week, I will meet with him then.” Alpha Stephen agreed. “Send your men to the border we share with the humans, instruct your men to slay any human there but should spare one and drop Derek's name carelessly, I need to cause some controversy to assure why he should join us.”
“Okay” Hulbert replied.
“What about Ralph? Was he of any assistance to you?”
“He was the one that agreed to your meeting. "
Stephen then nodded and continued his meal.

Carly just finished the twentieth room she was assigned to clean when Zoya came in and asked her to restart again.
“They are still filled with dust, clean further. Until I'm satisfied.” Zoya ordered her and walked out.
Carly collapsed to the ground, wondering if she were about to die that day. She had not eaten since the previous day and her strength was failing her.
Just when she felt herself slipping into oblivion, she heard Rick's voice. It sounded like it was coming from a distance, and she struggled to open her eyes.
“Rick?”
“Yeah, princess?” He was hovering above her.
“I think I'm dying… Do you think I'll be able to meet my father? What about my mother…will I be able to finally apologize to her?” She slurred.
“Wake up, stay with me!” he shouted and tapped her until she opened her eyes. “Look at me, you're not dying… you hear me?” He told her and then propped her up until she was in a sitting position.
“Take. Drink.” he gave her a bottle of water.
She took it and gulped it until she felt herself coming back.
“I brought you food.” He handed a napkin and when she unfolded it, she found her favorite snack in it.
“Thank you,” she said with a smile to convey her appreciation.
“It's totally fine, princess. You scared me,” He gave her a worried look.
“I'm sorry” She bent her head.
“Don't be. Damn… stop apologizing for something that was not within your power. Even if it's within your power, stop apologizing.” He chided her softly, running his hands through her hair.
“How did you know I was dying, anyway?” She asked curiously, he was always there to rescue or comfort her.
“Mandy told me she was worried about you, that you've not come back to nap, and you’ve been absent from the dining area. She said she wasn't sure you've eaten since… you have a good friend, princess.
“Yeah… I know. Thank you,” she smiled.
“Now, what's left for you to do?” Rick asked, scanning everywhere.
“She wants me to clean everything again. The hate she has for me is big,” Carly grumbled, earning a laugh from him.
“You're beautiful. I bet she can't stand that.” He consoled her.
“She just wants the Alpha and since he does not want her, she's taking it out on me. "
“Are you close to the Alpha?” He asked with his right brow raised.
“The monster despises me. I'm his supposed mate, but he rejected me… I thought you knew?”
“I had no idea. I told you I won't listen to any gossip about you. I meant it.” He shrugged.
“Oh…” she whispered.
“Look at the bright side, we have a whole chamber to ourselves, what better time to tell stories,” He said, spreading his arms wide and earning a chuckle from Carly.
“I found out he was my mate the day I tried to run away.” she responded soberly, “He rejected me openly, I even earned a scar on my chest,” She gave a sad chuckle.
“I'm sorry, that's brutal.” He said with a wince.
“Yeah. But like you said, don't be sorry for things that's not within your power,” she replied and they both laughed, the stress easing from Carly's shoulders.
“Do you ever dream of being free?” Carly asked Rick in a whisper.
“Every fucking time, princess.” He replied solemnly, “perhaps one day.”
“Perhaps…” she whispered with a twinge of hope.
Carly woke up to noises outside.“Mandy, what's happening?”“Oh, you're awake, get up, we need to leave now. A boy tried to run away, his father was to be beheaded.”“What?” Carly exclaimed, sitting up.“The Supreme Alpha wants us all to come and watch” Mandy added.“Why?” Carly was baffled and wondered why Derek would demand their presence.“He wants us to note what happens if we go against his command, I was waiting for you to wake up before we go. I could not bear to disturb your sleep, seeing that you've lacked it lately.” Mandy said while washing her face on a bucket.“Let me wash up first” Carly replied. After Mandy was done, Carly took the bucket and washed her face too “I reek of sweat”&l

Carly turned to face the owner of the voice. She had gone pale and hoped he wouldn't sense her fear. “I just went out for a breath of fresh air.” She lied. “You cunny bitch. You are a terrible actress, you know?” Derek gave her a disgusting look. Tears filled Carly's eyes. “I'm se…serious, please… Where else can I go? I just wanted to watch the moon a little.”Derek grunted, wondering whether to believe her or not. “Then why do you smell like you've been with a crowd?”“I've not had my bath since the full moon, maybe that's why” She praised herself for how she could think of that excuse on the spot and hoped he would buy her excuse. He walked up to her and lifted her chin up, entering a stair contest with her, trying to get a hint of foul play. When he was satisfied with what he saw, he traced his hand down until he gripped her neck. “Try to escape, and I will slay you myself,” he warned. She was gasping for air, but managed to maintain a straight face.He sniffed at her neck. “You
Rick was speaking the truth, there was a way out of the den.He led her towards a lone path that had been abandoned for years and they came face to face with a gate.He tugged the gate and the lock gave way. He then handed her a brown gown to wear.“It's to fit in, we can't go around looking like this. I'll wait here, go and change.” he informed her.She went off and found an abandoned building to change. When she got back, she saw that he had changed too.“You are beautiful, Princess” he complimented her with his eyes scanning her in the gown. Taking her hand in his, he led her into a forest and away from the den.You will never know what you have until you lose it, and you will never appreciate freedom until it's yanked from your grasp. This was the case for Carly, as she observed the trees, she inhaled a large amount of fresh air and expelled it, like she was trying to purge her insides free from the air that once existed inside her.Rick led her down a path until they arrived at t
Carly slipped back into the Supreme Alpha's den just before dawn and met Mandy waiting already.“Lover girl is back” she gave her a naughty wink.“It's not like that, Mandy,” Carly replied with a chuckle.“How was it?” Mandy inquired. “It was fun. I wish every night there would be a full moon,” Carly said with a wistful smile on her face.“Same here, Whi… who is there?” Mandy was interrupted by a knock on their door.A maid came in and stared at Carly. "Mia asked for you. "“Do you know why?” Carly inquired, not eager to leave the confines of her room. The only response she got was a click on the door. The maid had left.“I'll be right back,” Carly told Mandy, and left in search of Mia.She found her in the kitchen with Veronica. Glancing at Veronica, she gave a curt nod and turned to Mia. "You asked for me.”“I sent for you, come with me” Veronica gave her a long look and stalked off with Carly at her back. She was led into a chamber that she had not seen before.‘Must be her chambe
The maid watched as Carly ate her food, hoping she would drink the water as soon as possible.“Please bitch, don't stress me, I beg of you… drink the damned water,” the maid muttered.Carly, oblivious to the internal war the maid was passing through, continued to talk and laugh with Mandy and the other maid who sat with them.“It's fun, I promise… I've had exciting lovers who made me swoon and hope for the next full moon, and I've had a fair share of embarrassing moments, too. I once shared the night with a male that stopped halfway to take a dump… Girl, I wish the earth could open and accept me,” Mandy facepalmed, earning a giggle from the girls.“You don't mean it,” Carly exclaimed, still giggling and taking another piece of her bread to her mouth.“I'm serious, girls. I didn't even wait for him to be back before I took off. I just couldn't. It felt disgusting.” Mandy added. It seemed that the universe decided to put the maid's mind at rest because Carly choked on her bread while la
“What is the full moon like for the slaves, Mandy?” Carly asked as they cleaned the grand hall. “It's the only night we have to be free. We can roam the forests and howl as loud as we want. Lovers get to unite and bask under the moon. I'll tell you about mine later,” Mandy replied and added a silly wink.“Without restrictions?” Carly asked to be certain. “Yeah, without conditions.” Mandy nodded, scrubbing a stain on the wall that was proving too stubborn to leave. “I think this place needs painting. I'll fetch the person for repairs later.”“Uhm..... aren't they scared that we will run?” Carly asked, hoping that Mia’s threats were just empty threats to prevent her from running.“The vial works, Carly…. Don't even attempt to run, I've seen it firsthand, not the death part though, but it has the power to track us. What they did to the culprits, I wouldn't even wish it on my enemy,” Mandy said dejectedly, and the next second she had her eyes focused on Carly “Promise me you're not goin
“I smell sex all over you” Mandy said the moment Carly returned to their room. “Secret escapades…” she teased her then placed her hand on her chin “Hmmm.. Naughty girl. Well, i love naughty” Mandy finished with a side grin.“It's not that deep, honestly.” Carly tried to reassure her.“Come on girl. It's okay if you don't want to spill, I get it.” Mandy replied then after a pause she added “But be careful, if he finds out about it…”Her sentence was cut short by the hurried footsteps she heard approaching. Soon enough, Veronica barged in.“Where is that wench called Carly?” her voice was loud enough to wake the others up.Carly came out and flinched under Veronica's scrutiny.“So, it's you?” Veronica gave her a stink eye that portrayed the venom in her question.Carly’s back stiffened as she recognized her as the woman that Derek had kissed during the meeting earlier on.'Did they have a lover's spat?If she has an issue, she should take it up with the brute, not me.' Carly said inward
Derek’s wrath was so palpable that it could be felt miles away.“How dare he touch what's mine?” Atlas fumed, fighting for dominance. The urge to rip the man’s head off during the party was so strong that Derek did not even know when he left his throne and stormed in her direction. It was when he got there, he realized that he could not snap the man in two when the humans were watching. It would contradict the statement he made earlier on.He could only direct his rage at Carly. As soon as the party ended, he went in search of the man and found him on his way to the slave's quarters, trailing Carly.“Didn't your father tell you folklore stories when you were at a tender age?” Derek asked, barely reining in his anger.“Well, he did, Supreme Alpha,” the man replied and bowed to him. “Then I guess he did not mention you about a mouse who dares to eat from the king's plate?” Derek drawled.“He di…did” the man stuttered.“How dare you touch what's mine?” he growled, backing the man toward
