CASSIAN'S POV

****

I had just stepped out of the shower.

I wrapped a towel around my waist and used another to dry the remaining droplets of water from my skin.

As I looked down patting myself dry, something caught my attention.

A shadow.

Someone was peeking through the slightly opened door.

I lifted my head up.

Elara.

A smile tugged at the corner of my lips. she hadn't noticed I had seen her by the door.

Deciding to ease the awkwardness, I spoke.

"Are you planning on standing there all morning?"

Before I could say another word, she turned around and bolted down the hallway.

I couldn't help but chuckle.

She reminded me of a child who had just been caught doing something wrong.

Shaking my head with an amused smile, I returned my attention to drying myself and thought nothing more of it.

---

The following day, after spending nearly three weeks confined to the mansion, I was beginning to feel suffocated.

The endless meetings.

The responsibilities.

The constant expectations.

It was all becoming too much.

I needed to clear my head.

More importantly, Leon needed to run.

Leon—my wolf—was just like me.

Carefree.

Spontaneous.

Always chasing the thrill of freedom.

We both hated feeling trapped.

I made my way toward the forest near the pack territory.

Once I was deep enough among the towering trees, I allowed Leon to take over.

My body shifted effortlessly into my wolf.

The next second, I was sprinting through the forest, weaving between the trees as the cool wind rushed through my fur.

Freedom.

That's what this felt like.

No responsibilities.

No expectations.

Just the endless wilderness stretching before me.

Then...

Leon abruptly slowed.

His ears twitched.

Someone was nearby.

I lifted my nose, drawing in a deep breath.

A scent drifted toward us.

It wasn't unfamiliar.

But it wasn't ordinary either.

There was something different about it.

Something impossible to describe.

It called to us.

Without thinking, I quickened my pace, following the intoxicating scent as it drifted through the forest.

With every step I took, it grew stronger.

Closer.

Clearer.

Until finally...

I stopped.

The scent was no longer moving.

It was here.

Leon became restless, pacing within me with growing anticipation.

Whoever was nearby had completely captured his attention.

Slowly, I stepped forward.

Then I saw her.

A wolf with beautiful light-brown fur stood among the trees, her coat glowing beneath the scattered rays of sunlight filtering through the leaves.

Her amber eyes shimmered like stars against the night sky.

I knew that wolf.

Paige.

Elara's wolf.

For a brief moment, the entire world fell silent.

She looked at me.

Then our eyes met.

Time seemed to stop.

A powerful surge rushed through my entire body, stealing the air from my lungs.

It felt as though something deep within me had finally awakened.

A connection.

Ancient.

Primal.

Unbreakable.

The bond.

My heart pounded violently.

Every instinct inside me screamed the same truth.

Mate.

She was my mate.

Elara...

She was my fated mate.

Suddenly, everything made sense.

The strange pull I had felt ever since returning.

The way my thoughts constantly drifted toward her.

The way her touch had unraveled every ounce of self-control I possessed.

It had never been simple attraction.

It had always been fate leading me to her.

Paige never looked away.

Neither did I.

There was so much emotion in her eyes.

Disbelief.

Wonder.

Longing.

She had felt it too.

The bond had awakened within both of us.

Leon erupted with overwhelming joy.

Unable to contain himself, he threw back his head and released a deep, triumphant howl that echoed through the entire forest.

It was a declaration.

A celebration.

He had found his mate.

Paige responded by slowly circling around me.

Her movements were graceful, cautious, and calculated.

She studied me as though she were trying to memorize every part of me.

Yet she never let me out of her sight.

My heartbeat grew faster with every step she took.

The space between us seemed charged with an invisible force, drawing us irresistibly closer.

Her golden eyes never left mine.

They were filled with curiosity...

Affection...

And an undeniable longing neither of us could ignore.

She finally stopped directly in front of me.

For seconds, neither of us moved.

Then, with remarkable gentleness, she leaned forward.

Her head brushed softly against my neck.

The simple gesture sent warmth coursing through every part of me.

Leon melted beneath her touch, nuzzling her in return as though he had known her his entire life.

Neither of us spoke.

We didn't need to.

The mate bond had already said everything words never could.

And then just as we had both gotten almost lost in the moment.

she pulled back as if she being startled by something. I could not understand why.

but the next second she bolted. her wolf in full speed.

Leon ached for her.

Reader discretion is advised. ELARA POV *** I stood before my bedroom mirror, fixing the silver necklace around my throat while my mind wandered back to the meeting we'd had earlier that afternoon. “Whats going to happen to us?”I thought to myself. Alpha Lucian thorne had called for a pack meeting and told us he would be stepping down as Alpha and giving the Alpha title to Kieran -the heir to the Thorne Pack. And that the Alpha succession will be taken place in 3 weeks. I should have been excited. I was, mostly but the thought of how things will be when Kieran becomes Alpha Left me filled with thoughts which made me feel uneasy and scared at the same time. -Kieran and I have known each other since we were young wolf cubs and after the death of his mother we grew closer and devel

  • HIS BROTHER, MY MATE   Chapter 2: Something about her

Cassian pov **** I woke to the incessant ringing of my phone, the shrill sound cutting through the remnants of sleep that still clung to my mind. With a reluctant groan, I rolled over and reached blindly toward the bedside table, searching for the device. My fingers finally wrapped around it. I glanced at the screen. “Cassian.” The moment I heard my father’s voice, whatever traces of drowsiness remained vanished. I immediately sat upright, my brows drawing together as I listened. “The succession ceremony for your brother is scheduled to take place in three weeks. You are expected to return to the estate by tomorrow to begin preparations. As the younger son of the Alpha, you will assume the position of your brother’s right hand.” My jaw tightened. Those words landed with the weight of a hammer against my skull. Of all the things I had wanted to hear that morning, this was certainly nowhere near the list. I had never possessed the slightest interest in pack pol

  • HIS BROTHER, MY MATE   Chapter 3: With greater power comes greater responsibilities

Kieran pov **** Since Father announced my succession, my life had changed drastically, and I hadn’t even been officially appointed as Alpha yet. Elara and I had spent less and less time together with each passing day. The council had been breathing down my neck constantly, and my responsibilities seemed to multiply by the hour. There was always another meeting. Another decision to make. Another matter demanding my attention. And somehow, amidst all of it, Elara was slowly becoming the one thing I barely had time for. I hated it. I hated that my responsibilities were beginning to interfere with the relationship I had spent years building with her. But there was little I could do about it. My father had told me that Cassian would be returning today and that he would assume the position of Beta and become my new right hand. Perhaps his return would relieve some of the burden on my shoulders. At least, I hoped it would. Still, I wasn’t entirely certain Cassia

  • HIS BROTHER, MY MATE   Chapter 4: Crossing a line

Elara’s pov --- After taking a shower, I slipped into my nightgown and prepared myself for bed. I moved toward the bed and slowly lay down, pulling the covers over myself. The night was quiet. A gentle breeze drifted through the slightly opened window, causing the curtains to sway softly. The insects chirped somewhere outside, their distant sounds blending with the peaceful rhythm of the night. Everything around me was peaceful. Yet inside my head, it was a storm. There was no peace. My thoughts were at war with one another. I stared blankly at the ceiling, desperately trying to force myself to sleep, but my mind kept drifting back to the awkward moment I had shared with Cassian earlier. The memory refused to disappear. The way his eyes had looked at me. The strange sensation that had coursed through me when he held me. And the way when I felt his body on mone brought so many strange thoughts into my head that I didn't know why I squeezed my eyes shut.

  • HIS BROTHER, MY MATE   Chapter 5: He is my mate

Elara pov: **** The next day. I was alone in my room, yet my thoughts were anything but quiet. They drifted back to the embarrassing realization that Cassian had caught me staring at him while he was half-naked. My cheeks flushed at the mere memory. For some inexplicable reason, I couldn’t stop thinking about how handsome he had looked in that moment—or how perfectly defined his physique had been. And that was the part that embarrassed me the most. Because in those few seconds, my mind had wandered into thoughts it had no business entertaining. The moment Cassian caught me staring, I had been rendered completely breathless. My hands trembled. My heartbeat accelerated. And a wave of embarrassment washed over me. I knew then that I had crossed a line. Not an imaginary one. A real one. I knew exactly what I had been doing when I stood there staring at him. And that realization made me feel even worse. I didn’t know if I could face him again, let alone
