Alexander's Pov

I found it by accident, three weeks into David's investigation, while searching the penthouse library for old financial documents my grandmother had once mentioned.

A leather notebook, tucked behind a row of books that hadn't been touched in years. Lily's handwriting covered every page.

I shouldn't have opened it. I opened it anyway.

Sketches filled the first pages. My face, drawn in careful pencil lines, again and again, from angles I didn't know anyone had studied that closely. Beneath one drawing, small handwriting read: "He smiled today. Real, not for show. I wonder if he knows how rare that is."

Pressed flowers fell from between the pages, roses from the garden she used to tend alone on the balcony while I ignored her existence.

I kept reading, unable to stop myself.

"He doesn't see me, and some days I think that's kinder than if he did. If he saw me, he'd see how much I already love him, and that would only give him one more thing to be cruel about."

Another page, dated the week after our wedding: "I promised myself I wouldn't fall for him. I broke that promise on our wedding day, watching him lie so easily to his dying grandmother, wishing just once he'd look at me the way he looked at her."

Further in, an entry made me stop breathing entirely: "I think I might be sick most mornings now. I haven't told anyone. I'm too afraid of what it means, and too afraid of what he'll say if I'm right."

My hands were shaking by the time I reached the final entries, written in the days before she disappeared.

"I heard them tonight. Convenient. Pathetic. A nobody. I suppose I always knew that's what I was to him. I just didn't expect it to hurt this much to hear it out loud."

I sat on the library floor for a long time, surrounded by pressed flowers and pencil sketches of a man who didn't deserve a single page of that notebook, and I understood, with devastating clarity, exactly what I had thrown away.

She had loved me. Genuinely, quietly, without asking for anything in return. And I had treated that love like garbage, worth less than the contract that bound us together.

I thought of that entry about mornings and sickness, and a terrible possibility began forming in my mind, one I wasn't ready to say out loud even to myself.

I called Rachel that same night. She answered on the fourth ring, her voice guarded the moment she heard mine.

"Don't call this number again."

"Rachel, please. I need to find her."

"You had two years to find her, Alexander. Two years to see what was right in front of you. Why would I help you now?"

"Because I was wrong. Because I finally understand what I did to her, and I can't undo it if I don't even know where she is." I gripped the journal tighter. "Rachel, is she sick? Is something wrong with her?"

A long silence answered that question louder than words could have.

"You want my help? Prove you've actually changed first," Rachel finally said. "Real change, not a rich man's guilt lasting a week before he goes back to being exactly who he was. Lily deserves better than another lie."

The line went dead before I could respond.

I called David next, my voice steadier than I felt. "I need everything you can find on Lily's location. Discreetly. And David, this isn't about the divorce or the company. This is personal."

"You're serious about this."

"More serious than I've been about anything in years."

David was quiet for a moment. "Alexander, if you find her and you haven't actually changed, you'll destroy whatever's left of her. You understand that, right?"

"I understand." I looked down at the journal again, at a sketch of my own hands drawn with more tenderness than I'd ever shown the real ones. "That's exactly why I can't rush this. I need to become someone worth finding first."

"Then start now. Tomorrow, come into the office sober and clear-headed, and we'll rebuild this company the right way. No more hiding evidence. No more protecting people who don't deserve it."

"Agreed."

After we hung up, I looked down at the journal in my hands, at sketches of a smile I barely remembered giving, and made a decision that would define the rest of my life.

I was going to become the man Lily believed I could be, whether it took months or years. And then I was going to find her, and spend whatever time I had left proving her love hadn't been wasted on someone unworthy of it.

For the first time since she'd walked out of my life, I let myself feel every bit of the loss. It nearly broke me.

Good. I deserved to feel it.

I sat there until the sun rose over the city, the journal held against my chest like something sacred, and made myself a promise I intended to keep no matter what it cost me.

I would find her. I would become someone worth finding. And if she ever let me close enough to explain, I would spend the rest of my life proving that the man in those sketches, the one who smiled and meant it, was the man I could still become, if she was willing to give me the chance I never deserved.

The city outside kept moving, indifferent to the quiet war being fought inside one broken man's heart, and for the first time in years, I let myself hope that some things, even things as shattered as this, might still be worth fighting to fix.

Alexander's PovElena arrived at the hospital within the hour, summoned by a call I made with hands still trembling from David's revelation. She looked older suddenly, the weight of years of silence visible in every line of her face as she sat across from David and me in a private consultation room."I need to tell you both something I should have said months ago," she began, twisting her hands in her lap. "I saw something that night. The night everyone's been calling a mistake.""Tell us everything, Elena. Please.""I was doing my final rounds before bed. I saw Mr. Chen in the kitchen around eleven, looking unsteady, holding a glass of water Cassandra had just handed him. She left immediately after, and a few minutes later, I saw him head toward the guest wing instead of his usual office, walking like a man who'd had far too much to drink, though I know now he hadn't been drinking at all."David's jaw tightened. "The guest wing. That's near Lily's room.""I assumed he was simply conf

Not MineAlexander's PovDr. Mitchell closed the door behind her, her voice gentle but direct in the way I imagined she delivered every piece of devastating medical news."Given the complications and the legal questions around your marriage, we ran paternity testing automatically as part of the delivery protocol. I need you both to prepare yourselves for what I'm about to say."Lily's hand tightened around mine. "Just tell us.""Alexander isn't the father." Dr. Mitchell let that settle before continuing. "The results are conclusive. The baby's biological father is David Chen."The room went silent except for the steady beep of hospital monitors. I stared at Dr. Mitchell, certain I'd misheard her."That's impossible," I said. "David wasn't even at the penthouse that night.""I can only report the results, Mr. Hunt. I'd recommend speaking with Mr. Chen directly about the circumstances."Lily's face had gone bone white against the hospital pillow. "I don't understand. I thought it was yo

Alexander's PovThe next four hours blurred into a single unbearable stretch of fluorescent lights and hushed medical voices.Dr. Sarah Mitchell emerged once, briefly, her scrubs stained and her face tight with concentration. "She's stable for now. The baby's heart rate dropped twice, but we've got it steady. I need you all to wait here.""Can I see her?""Not yet. Give us time to make sure she's out of danger first."I sat beside Rachel in the waiting room, my hands shaking in a way I couldn't control no matter how hard I tried."I shouldn't have told her like that," Rachel said quietly, guilt written across every line of her face. "I panicked. I thought she deserved to know before it came out some other way, but I should have waited. I should have found a gentler way.""This isn't your fault, Rachel.""Isn't it? I've spent months protecting her, and the moment it mattered most, I broke her instead."David appeared with coffee none of us touched, sitting heavily beside me. "Any word?

Alexander's PovI liquidated forty million dollars in assets within thirty-six hours, moving faster than I had for any business deal in my entire career.David watched me sign the final transfer with a grim expression. "You realize this puts serious pressure on the company's liquidity right before the shareholder meeting.""Let them worry about liquidity. I'm worried about Sophie getting home safely from school."We arranged the exchange at an abandoned warehouse near the docks, per Vincent's instructions, with two undercover officers David had quietly brought in through a contact from his college roommate, now a detective with the fraud division.Vincent arrived exactly on time, flanked by two men I didn't recognize, his smile as oily as I remembered from Lily's old stories about him."Mr. Hunt. Punctual. I respect that in a man.""The money's confirmed in the account. We're done here.""Almost done." Vincent's eyes glittered with something that made my skin crawl. "You know, I alway

Alexander's PovDavid arrived at my apartment the next evening looking like he hadn't slept in days, a thick folder clutched against his chest."Sit down," he said. "You're going to need to.""Just tell me.""Cassandra Vale isn't her real name. Her birth name is Cassandra Shaw." David let that settle before continuing. "She's Vincent Shaw's niece, Alexander. Placed inside Hunt Corporation five years ago, specifically to work her way into your life and destroy the company from the inside."The room tilted slightly around me. "Why? What does Vincent Shaw have against my family?""Your father, apparently, ruined more than just Robert Morgan over the years. Vincent worked for James decades ago, doing exactly the kind of dirty work that bankrupted Lily's father. James cut him loose eventually, used him up and discarded him without a second thought, the same way he does with everyone." David's expression darkened. "Vincent spent years planning revenge. Placing his niece close to you was the

There's something you need to see, and I've been too afraid to show anyone until now."I drove through the dark with Vincent's threat still burning in my pocket, my mind racing through every possible way to protect Lily and Sophie before dawn.Elena met me in the security office, a small room off the kitchen I hadn't visited in years. She pulled up old footage on the ancient monitor, her hands trembling slightly."I saved this after your grandmother passed. I didn't know what it meant then. I think I do now."The grainy footage showed Cassandra in Margaret's room late at night, carefully measuring something into a small cup beside the water pitcher, checking over her shoulder before slipping out."That's from three weeks before your grandmother's heart failed completely," Elena said quietly. "I compared the dates wi
