Alexander's Pov

Elena arrived at the hospital within the hour, summoned by a call I made with hands still trembling from David's revelation.

She looked older suddenly, the weight of years of silence visible in every line of her face as she sat across from David and me in a private consultation room.

"I need to tell you both something I should have said months ago," she began, twisting her hands in her lap. "I saw something that night. The night everyone's been calling a mistake."

"Tell us everything, Elena. Please."

"I was doing my final rounds before bed. I saw Mr. Chen in the kitchen around eleven, looking unsteady, holding a glass of water Cassandra had just handed him. She left immediately after, and a few minutes later, I saw him head toward the guest wing instead of his usual office, walking like a man who'd had far too much to drink, though I know now he hadn't been drinking at all."

David's jaw tightened. "The guest wing. That's near Lily's room."

"I assumed he was simply confused, tired from overwork. I didn't think anything of it until much later." Elena's eyes filled with tears. "There's more. I found something in Lily's old room after she left. Empty capsules, hidden in an emptied vitamin bottle in her bathroom cabinet. I didn't understand what they were until I finally sent them to a lab last month, after everything with Cassandra's arrest started coming out."

"What were they?" I asked, though some sick part of me already suspected the answer.

"A sedative. Strong enough to cause confusion and memory loss, mixed with something that suppresses inhibition. The lab said someone had likely been dosing her food or drinks for weeks, possibly longer." Elena's voice broke. "Cassandra was keeping her compliant, Mr. Hunt. Compliant, confused, and easy to manipulate, all while making sure she remained too depressed and disoriented to fight back against anything happening in that house."

The full scope of Cassandra's cruelty settled over the room like a suffocating weight. She hadn't just stolen money or orchestrated Marcus's betrayal. She had drugged two people, engineered a pregnancy through violation neither Lily nor David had consented to, all to protect her own secrets and destroy a family from the inside.

David stood abruptly, pacing the small room with barely contained fury. "She used us. She used both of us like pieces in whatever game she was playing, and neither of us even knew we were on the board."

"We need to tell Lily," I said quietly. "All of it. She deserves to know the truth, no matter how much it hurts."

We found her awake when we returned, sitting up slightly in her hospital bed, her eyes red-rimmed but alert. David sat carefully in the chair beside her bed, his hands trembling as he reached for hers.

"Lily, I need to tell you something, and I need you to know first that whatever happened, neither of us chose it."

He explained everything Elena had shown us, watching Lily's face shift from confusion to horror to a kind of exhausted grief that seemed to swallow whatever strength she had left.

"I was drugged," she whispered. "This whole time, I thought I'd made some terrible choice, betrayed my own marriage in a moment of weakness. And it wasn't even a choice at all."

"None of this was your fault," David said softly. "Not the confusion that night, not the child growing because of what Cassandra did to both of us. I want you to know, whatever you decide about everything else, I'm not going anywhere. I'll be here for our daughter, however you need me to be."

Lily's hand drifted to her chest, over a heart that had absorbed more devastating revelations in the past six hours than most people faced in a lifetime.

"I can't process any of this right now," she whispered. "The baby. James Hunt. Whatever I am to Alexander now. I can't hold all of it at once."

None of us had an answer for that. We simply sat with her in the quiet, heavy silence, understanding that some wounds couldn't be healed with explanations alone, no matter how much truth we finally had to offer.

David lingered after Rachel and I finally stepped out to give Lily some space, his eyes fixed on the small photo the NICU nurse had given him, printed from her incubator monitor.

"She has your eyes," he said quietly, more to himself than to me. "I keep looking at this picture, trying to feel something other than terror."

"Give it time. None of us expected any of this."

"I keep thinking about what Elena said. About not remembering. I built my entire career on paying attention to details, Alexander. Catching things everyone else misses. And I missed the single most important night of my own life, stolen from me without my knowledge." His voice cracked slightly. "How am I supposed to be a father to a child I don't even remember conceiving?"

"The same way the rest of us figure out impossible things. One difficult day at a time." I clasped his shoulder. "She's going to need you, David. Whatever happened that night, none of it is that little girl's fault. She deserves a father who shows up anyway."

David nodded slowly, tucking the photo carefully into his jacket pocket like something fragile enough to break.

"I'll show up," he said. "Every single day, for as long as she'll let me."

Not MineAlexander's PovDr. Mitchell closed the door behind her, her voice gentle but direct in the way I imagined she delivered every piece of devastating medical news."Given the complications and the legal questions around your marriage, we ran paternity testing automatically as part of the delivery protocol. I need you both to prepare yourselves for what I'm about to say."Lily's hand tightened around mine. "Just tell us.""Alexander isn't the father." Dr. Mitchell let that settle before continuing. "The results are conclusive. The baby's biological father is David Chen."The room went silent except for the steady beep of hospital monitors. I stared at Dr. Mitchell, certain I'd misheard her."That's impossible," I said. "David wasn't even at the penthouse that night.""I can only report the results, Mr. Hunt. I'd recommend speaking with Mr. Chen directly about the circumstances."Lily's face had gone bone white against the hospital pillow. "I don't understand. I thought it was yo

Alexander's PovThe next four hours blurred into a single unbearable stretch of fluorescent lights and hushed medical voices.Dr. Sarah Mitchell emerged once, briefly, her scrubs stained and her face tight with concentration. "She's stable for now. The baby's heart rate dropped twice, but we've got it steady. I need you all to wait here.""Can I see her?""Not yet. Give us time to make sure she's out of danger first."I sat beside Rachel in the waiting room, my hands shaking in a way I couldn't control no matter how hard I tried."I shouldn't have told her like that," Rachel said quietly, guilt written across every line of her face. "I panicked. I thought she deserved to know before it came out some other way, but I should have waited. I should have found a gentler way.""This isn't your fault, Rachel.""Isn't it? I've spent months protecting her, and the moment it mattered most, I broke her instead."David appeared with coffee none of us touched, sitting heavily beside me. "Any word?

Alexander's PovI liquidated forty million dollars in assets within thirty-six hours, moving faster than I had for any business deal in my entire career.David watched me sign the final transfer with a grim expression. "You realize this puts serious pressure on the company's liquidity right before the shareholder meeting.""Let them worry about liquidity. I'm worried about Sophie getting home safely from school."We arranged the exchange at an abandoned warehouse near the docks, per Vincent's instructions, with two undercover officers David had quietly brought in through a contact from his college roommate, now a detective with the fraud division.Vincent arrived exactly on time, flanked by two men I didn't recognize, his smile as oily as I remembered from Lily's old stories about him."Mr. Hunt. Punctual. I respect that in a man.""The money's confirmed in the account. We're done here.""Almost done." Vincent's eyes glittered with something that made my skin crawl. "You know, I alway

"You're going to need to.""Just tell me.""Cassandra Vale isn't her real name. Her birth name is Cassandra Shaw." David let that settle before continuing. "She's Vincent Shaw's niece, Alexander. Placed inside Hunt Corporation five years ago, specifically to work her way into your life and destroy the company from the inside."The room tilted slightly around me. "Why? What does Vincent Shaw have against my family?""Your father, apparently, ruined more than just Robert Morgan over the years. Vincent worked for James decades ago, doing exactly the kind of dirty work that bankrupted Lily's father. James cut him loose eventually, used him up and discarded him without a second thought, the same way he does with everyone." David's expression darkened. "Vincent spent years planning revenge. Placing his niece close to you was the

There's something you need to see, and I've been too afraid to show anyone until now."I drove through the dark with Vincent's threat still burning in my pocket, my mind racing through every possible way to protect Lily and Sophie before dawn.Elena met me in the security office, a small room off the kitchen I hadn't visited in years. She pulled up old footage on the ancient monitor, her hands trembling slightly."I saved this after your grandmother passed. I didn't know what it meant then. I think I do now."The grainy footage showed Cassandra in Margaret's room late at night, carefully measuring something into a small cup beside the water pitcher, checking over her shoulder before slipping out."That's from three weeks before your grandmother's heart failed completely," Elena said quietly.
