Chapter 7.

Suspended.

I can't believe I almost got suspended, though I've been saved by my clean record and Wesley's defense.

He literally defended me and yes, most of this was his fault, but him coming through for me, really surprised me. I couldn't help but sigh out of relief, the minute I stepped out of Mr Cain's office.

Unfortunately, Wesley had to remain behind. I was curious of what would happen to him but I wouldn't let  him know I was.

The bell had rung and only a few people remained, who were still getting to class. Thank God I have two free lessons and then after school. I am still standing by my locker, exchanging books when Callie comes over to give me my back pack.

" Thanks, " I mutter, taking my bag from her.

" What happened to your hand?!" Her voice being loud,  earns us a few curious eyes but I ignore them.

" It's nothing." I say, trying to ignore the stinging that's on the back of my hand.

" That's not nothing, it looks like you ------------"

" Callie, leave it be. " I warn, closing my locker shut and placing books in my bag.

" Okay fine, why were you suddenly on the rooftop with Wesley Adams?  You two don't even know each other, yet you two got dragged into the principals office together."

What's with the third degree?

" We're simply schoolmates, who got in trouble. " I notice her glance over my shoulder and following her line of view, I almost roll my eyes when I see Amber and her girls leaned against a wall at a distance, surely pretending to be in conversation, when they are certainly looking at us.

Oh, so she's been sent to spy and investigate.

" So this is your new position in the squad, huh?" I fold my arms, arching my brow.

She opens and closes her mouth before sighing. " We were just being curious."

Noticing my face changing its expression, that I don't believe a word she's just said, her shoulders sag in defeat.

" Amber is just curious -----------"

" Curious, huh?"

" Okay fine, she's just worried that something might be going on between you and ----------"

" Who? Wesley? Look, if there were or not, it's none of anyone's business ----------"

" Chloe ---------"

" But since you all want to meddle into people's business, then no, there's nothing going on. Now you can go and tell your precious Amber to not worry her fragile heart." I say with a fake smile, walking past her.

Glancing over my shoulders, I see her make her way to Amber, I roll my eyes before turning back around, only to bump into someone.

" Oomph." I stagger back, almost losing my footing when the person's hands catch me by my shoulders, keeping me on my feet.

Looking up at the person, I frown when I see a tall, half Asian guy, standing in front of me.

" Sorry, " we both say at the same time.

I take a step back, just as he let's go of my shoulders.

" Uh, sorry about that." I say, trying to side step him but he blocks my way. " Wait."

I frown at him.

" I don't know if you know me but ----------"

" I know who you are, Fin Daniels, the basketball captain."

So Fin Daniels is now captain of the basketball team, he's replaced Wesley and from what I've heard, the team is doing okay but not as great as when Wesley was on the team.

Fin is trying his best to hold the team together, but from what I've heard, basketball isn't his first love, music is.

" Right, well um, I wanted to know something."

" Okay."

" I don't mean to pry."

" Spit it out Daniels."

" Woah, you're a feisty one," he mumbles.

" Thanks." I say, sarcasm dripping off of my tone.

"Look, I just want to know if he's okay -----------"

" By him, you mean?"

" Wes- Wesley. He hasn't been himself for a year now, which is understandable because he lost his sister, but I've never seen this side of him before, today he -----------"

" I think we all saw it."

"Yeah but you were there, you've been there with him, I've seen you two talking." I arch my brow at him.

" I wasn't prying or anything, it's just that - you know what? Forget I said anything." He walks past me.

" You were friends, weren't you?" He stops in his tracks, taking a second before turning around to face me.

" Yeah, best buds, since we were kids. " A small smile lifts on his face.

" You two don't speak anymore." I point out.

"No," he shakes his head, his eyes growing sad and I actually feel bad.

" He wasn't going to do it." I tell him.

" What?" He asks.

" He wasn't going to jump if that's what you're worried about, he was just........" I stop talking when I notice his eyes move behind me, the time I hear footsteps approaching.

I glance over my shoulder to see Wesley dig in his pocket, taking out his phone and earphones from his hoodie.

I turn around fully, facing him. He stops mid movement, his head tilting up and in my direction.

He takes a step towards me and I'm expecting to hear something from him about what happened, when all of a sudden, Wesley spins around and walks off, leaving me frowning and confused.

What just happened?

Hearing footsteps behind me, I glance over my shoulder and notice Fin walk away, and I'm reminded of him telling me that the two had been friends before.

Could Fin being present, have caused Wesley to storm off?

And what could have happened to them?

                            ********

I was all exhausted for the day as well as relieved, that today I got my phone back.

What would I have told my brother if I didn't have it with me yet again?

Mr Lankosky seemed to be in a better mood today and genuinely looked worried for Wesley, well most teachers were.

While some pretend to be worried about him,  because Welsey's dad is in the board of the school, others genuinely were, because they'd known Wesley since he was a Kid. He basically grew up in front of their very own eyes.

And I hate to admit it, but I've been a little worried about him too since I saw him on that roof.

I thought he'd do it but he didn't.

One thing I took note of today, is the fact that Wesley would go to any length, just for people to think differently of him and stay out of his way. Though he went about it the wrong way, because he might not have noticed, but people were already staying out of his way, maybe they still threw curious gazes his way or gossiped, but his business was his and what people talked about now, was just assumption, not fully knowing the real story.

Maybe I should talk to him and try make him see that no one would now dare try poke in his business. He didn't need to do anything drastic, just to prove a point.

I can't believe I was about to do this, but yes, I would listen to him. I am going to be his venting partner, just so long as he isn't exactly aware of me doing it. Even if I didn't do it, he would have still persisted until I gave in, so basically I am saving myself the trouble of his begging.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing.

Heading inside the house, with the door closing behind me, I would have just continued on upstairs if it weren't for my brother's voice, coming from the kitchen. Walking over to the kitchen, two things surprise me, one, my brother is not alone but in the company of a red haired and Owen.

With Owen here, this could mean......

" I don't want to think too much or assume, but if he found us, then we have to move, again." Aiden sighs tiredly, his hand moving down his face.

He looks so exhausted and older right now.

" Look, we don't need to make any hasty decisions right now, when we aren't even sure about anything," Owen says.

"Owen's right, " I arch my brow at that.

Who is this girl and how does she know my family?

" We should calm down and think things through."

" Yes, I don't want you stressing your sister over nothing." Owen adds.

" Dammit, Chloe, if she gets to know ----------"

" He found us, didn't he?" I ask in monotone, standing on the doorway.

Everyone's heads snap in my direction. The red haired and Owen rise to their feet but I focus my eyes on Aiden, who takes a step towards me.

" Chloe, why are you late?" He tries scolding me, but I'm not in the mood for that.

I need to know the truth.

I need to know if Luis is back, that he found us and that we might have to move again.

Honestly, I don't think I want to move again.

" Tell me, did Luis - Do we have to move again?" I ask.

He sighs, that look of dread still remaining on his face.

" I think we might have to prepare for another move again."

My heart sinks at those words.
