Chapter 1

Chapter 1

I stared at the huge vase in front of me, currently being held up by two people. They'd been holding it for quite some time now, and honestly, a tiny part of me was beginning to feel sorry for them. Why? Because the case was damn heavy. But even at that, I couldn't bring myself to drop it off at any corner of the room. I needed to find the right spot to keep it because everything had to be perfect.

“Could you move it to the left please?” Amidst the busy background of the living room, they shuffled to the left, before waiting for my verdict. “No, take it to the right.”

It still didn't fit any of those places and a small frown made its way to my lips. After thinking for a couple of seconds, I finally decided.

“Just leave it where it is.” The duo heaved a sigh of relief as they dropped the vase to the ground. I had no idea why I hadn't noticed it before, but it looked perfect in its new position. “Can you two check on the refreshments please?”

With a nod and bright smiles on their faces, they headed in the direction I'd pointed out.

“Could you help me out with this balloon here?” I asked no one in particular. In less than a minute, one of the party guests had rushed over to my side, just to reinflate the already disappearing balloon. In less than a minute, he was done and I found myself taking everything in.

The living room was currently run over with different decorations, from stringed fairy lights to balloons and even glitter , everything adored the living room.

It was my husband's birthday today, and just like every other year, Daniel deserved the best on his special day. Thanks to a couple of friends, we decided to plan a surprise party for him.

“Ma'am.” Someone broke into my monologue. “The cake just arrived.”

“Put it out on the dining table.” The cake was my favorite part of the ceremony. I'd ordered a three tier cake with all of Daniel's favorite flavors and I could bet my life he was going to love it.

While the other guests chatted amidst themselves, whilst simultaneously waiting for the birthday boy, I made my way towards the window.  Raising the blinds only slightly, I peeked out of the square box that served as a window. The driveway was quiet, but I knew it was only going to be a matter of time before Daniel would arrive. From here, I had the perfect view of when he would do so, and I found myself grinning from ear to ear like a child on Christmas eve.

It didn't take too long for the smile to disappear. A frown made its way to my face as a memory popped up in my mind.

“Look at you.” The distaste on her face wasn't hard to miss. “Aren't you ashamed of yourself, even if it's a little bit?”

“But mum….”

“Don't you dare call me that!” She spat. “I'm your mother-in-law, and looking at it right now, I think I've made the biggest mistake of my life. If I had known that you were a barren woman, then I would never have allowed you to get married to my son.”

“I'm not barren, mum.” I croaked, as her words slashed me straight in the heart. “Daniel and I just need more time…”

“Don't you dare take my son's name in your mouth.” She spat again, causing me to flinch. “Daniel doesn't have a fault in this, it's all you. You're a barren woman and you're trying to push it down on my son. It's not going to work..”

“But mum, you have to believe me….”

“Not another word from you.” She hissed. “You will give me a grandchild and for your sake, I hope it's soon enough, or else.”

I didn't need my mother-in-law to finish the rest of her statement from that day. She never finished it, but I didn't want to know why? Because it was bound to be something negative.

It was every mother's joy to hold her grandchild or children in her hands, and I was sure that was only Daniel's mother's wish. Yes, she had been harsh on me over the years, but hopefully, that was going to change soon.

A wistful smile made its way to my lips as the memory faded away. Slowly, I ran a hand over my belly, the small circles warming up the side of my stomach. My smile grew wider as a loud honk pulled my attention back to the window. My eyes twinkled as I watched Daniel drive into the compound.

*He's here.” I yelled excitedly to the party guests. “Everyone, hide. Right now.”

The flurry of footsteps that echoed in the living room was insane, each one shuffling to find a good hiding spot to hide before Daniel would walk in. Just as the little crowd had melted into the background, a small knock came from the door.

“I'm coming.” I waddled to the front door, barely able to contain my steps. With a flourish, I swung open the doors.

“Surprise!” Echoed around the whole room the moment Daniel's face appeared in the doorway. My smile widened as I snuck a quick glance at the people behind me, before turning to face my husband again.

“Happy Birthday baby.” My singsong voice was surprisingly loud enough over the loud clapping from behind. “I love you so much.”

Without warning, I pressed my lips against his, but the reaction I got wasn't one I was expecting at all.

“Daniel?” I called out slowly, as Daniel pushed me back. “What's going on?”

Like the shock I'd just gotten wasn't already enough, I caught sight of someone behind him. A woman, looking all smug and I felt my stomach churn.

“Daniel?” I called out slowly. “Who's that?”

“This is Liliana,” The woman in question took a couple of steps forward, her heels echoing throughout the room. “She's my fiancé.”

Riddled with grammatical, spelling, and syntax errors. If the writer doesn't care enough to have their work edited, then they shouldn't charge for it.

chapter 2
Kaylee's POV I froze, completely rooted to my spot. My ears buzzed with Daniel's last words and no matter how many times they echoed in my ears, I just couldn't make any sense of it. “What? My skin buzzed with more than one emotion, none of them positive in anyway. My stomach churned and I felt something stir in the pit of my stomach. “I don't understand.” Daniel said nothing and his stance made me all the more nervous. I could feel the eyes behind me boring holes into my back. I was sure they had a million questions on their mind, the same way I had mine too. “You're joking.” I burst into laughter. Honestly, now that I thought of it, it couldn't be more than a prank. Daniel was known for playing a couple of pranks now and then, even when they were extreme and I wouldn't be surprised if he chose to play one today. “This has to be some kind of prank. Am I right guys?’ My laughs turned into a nervous chuckle as I turned behind me. I was hoping for even the tiniest bit of support

chapter 3
Kaylee's POV I sucked in a deep breath, the details of Daniel's last statement shocking me to the bones. If someone had told me that today was going to turn out worse than yesterday, I would have doubted it. What happened to my neighbor's advice? She'd told me to be hopeful, and look forward to things changing this morning. I had held onto a tiny glimmer of hope in my heart, and had prayed that it would come true, so why the hell did Daniel just hand me divorce papers? “What?!” I stuttered, too stunned to react. “Daniel, what is this?” “Tell me you can still read.” He scoffed and Liliana chuckled from her seat. “What does the letter say?“Divorce.” I muttered half to myself than anyone else. Even calling out the words didn't make it sound real enough. No, there had to be a mistake somewhere. “No, no, no Daniel. There has to be a mistake somewhere.”.“If you need time to take it all in,” Daniel's voice was cold. “I'll give it to you. Read through it for a couple of days, I'm sur

chapter 4
Hayden's POV I slowly made my way to the ward the nurse had just pointed me to. It took a while, but with the help of the doctor, she finally agreed. I took one glance at myself at the mirror hanging on the wall. Yes, she had just suffered something any woman shouldn't have to, but I couldn't help but look presentable. If I didn't look serious, then there was no way she was going to take me seriously. I stopped at the designated ward and sucked in a couple of breaths before knocking. I pushed open the door and perhaps if I had known what was waiting for me on the other side, I wouldn't have been in such a hurry. The brown haired woman wasn't who I was expecting to see, not even in a million years. We'd lost contact for the longest time, so what were the odds that she was here. “Kaylee?” Her head bobbed up to meet mine, and I didn't miss the surprise in her eyes.m. Just like me, she never thought she was going to see me again. “What are you doing here?”Who would have thought

chapter 5
Kaylee's POV I stared at the mirror in front of me, my reflection staring back at me. If I was being honest with myself, I would say that I didn't look too bad. At first, I didn't even want to dress up. When dad had brought it up, I had turned down the idea immediately. After I'd walked into the house when Hayden dropped me off, I went straight to apologizing to father. Unlike how I thought he was going to react, he'd welcomed me with one of the biggest bear hugs I'd ever received in my entire life. However, that sweet demeanor disappeared the moment I told him about Daniel.Father never liked Daniel and when I told him everything he did to me,I knew it took everything in him to not go and shoot the blasted man in his balls. He was pleased however, when I told him I was going to get a divorce. To celebrate, he decided to throw me a party, the very one I was dressing up for.I ran a hand over the invisible creases on my black dress. It was a little black number, with a corset bustier

chapter 6
Kaylee povWhy is he suddenly against the divorce when it’s clear we are done with each other, he has another woman now but he’s still against a divorce? “What do you mean?” I asked him angrily. He stared at the paper for a while and handed it back to me. Liliana also looked shocked to see his reaction, this was the perfect time to end the rubbish both of us once shared and now he’s against it, “Kaylee.” Dad called me. “I’ll be there in a minute, dad.” I replied almost immediately. Daniel chuckled when he heard what I said. “Why didn’t you tell me the truth about you? Were you waiting till we get divorced before you tell me the truth about who you are?” Daniel asked, I could see the pain in his eyes, the feeling of a big loss was clear in his eyes, which gave me the satisfaction I craved so badly. “Did I tell you to cheat? Did I tell you to get another woman pregnant and kick me out of the house? I did not do this so why am I the one getting all this talk?” I asked him angrily. I

chapter 7
Writer’s POVDaniel got back to the house and fell on the couch tiredly. Liliana rushed to grab him so he wouldn't fall on the floor and just the way he pushed her earlier, he pushed her again. “What is wrong with you Daniel?” Liliana yelled at the top of her voice. Hope was walking down the stairs when she heard Lilliana’s voice, she realized Liliana was yelling at Daniel. “Who do you think you are to speak to my son like that?” Hope asked angrily. Liliana brushed her hair behind her ear panting really hard. “Can’t you see how drunk your son is, he was humiliated in the presence of his ex wife,” Liliana said to Hope angrily. Hope stared at Liliana, she was not bothered about what happened earlier, she was more bothered about Liliana’s tone while talking to her. “Who do you think you are?” Hope asked Liliana angrily. Liliana was shocked to hear the question Hope asked her, she was only talking about what her son did and such a question came from nowhere. “I don’t understand what

chapter 8
Hayden povI stared at her face for a while and she wasn’t saying anything. I know that Kaylee was still suffering from the trauma of her past which is why she can hardly trust me, but little did she know that I need this revenge more than she does. “I think going back is not the best idea.” I said to her firmly against her plan to return to Daniel until the divorce is official. “That is the only plan I could come up with and I think that would work.” Kaylee said to me. I have tried my best to convince her but it seemed like her heart was made up before she came to me with the plan. “Seems you've made up your mind.” I said to her and took a sip of my juice. Kaylee checked the time and immediately stood up. “I need to head back now, I have a meeting with all the staff In ten minutes.” Kaylee said to me.I felt sad because I have barely spent time with her since we met again because she is always busy. “Okay, dinner?” I asked her. A soft smile escaped her lips and she finally agre

chapter 9
Kaylee povAfter the meeting with the staff I headed back to my office and sat on the chair tiredly. I had so much to do that I didn't even remember to eat lunch. I sighted the sandwich my P.A got for me, I picked it up and started eating. Then I opened the bottle or juice and gulped it. It was so refreshing having something to eat again. I continued my work while eating. My phone started ringing, I stretched my hand and picked the phone, when I saw the caller a smile escaped my lips. “Hello angel.” Dad said to me the moment I picked the call. “How are you doing?” Dad asked. “I'm trying dad.” I said to him with a smile on my face. Though I was very tired because I'm still trying to get used to my job very well. “Are they treating you well?” Dad asked. From the way he was asking so many questions I could tell he was very worried about me and being my first time acting in place of him might be very exhausting.“Daddy, you don't have to worry about me, I am doing great, just concent

chapter 10
Hayden povI was about to go to bed but I couldn't help but worry about Kaylee and how she complained of having too much work to do, I stood up from the bed and picked up my phone. I placed a call to her and after calling several times she was not picking my calls. I decided to call Mr Cayden and check up on him then get a little update on Kaylee from him. The phone didn't ring for long when he picked it. “Good day sir.” I greeted the moment he picked the call. “Hayden dear, good thing you called.” I was curious to know why he said that the moment he picked the call.“Are you okay?” I was a little worried. “I'm fine, I need you to help me convince her to come home and not overwork herself. She has insisted on spending the night at work because she has a lot to take care of.” I wasn't surprised because she wasn't picking my calls. I stood up from the bed and rushed to the closet so I could pick something to wear and visit her in her workplace. “Okay sir.” I replied to him and dr
