LOGINLylah Jeurgens walked down the hallway, her heels clicking softly against the plush carpet. She had stayed at this hotel before. The layout was familiar and comforting.
As she approached her room, she slipped her key card into the slot and pushed open the door. The familiar scent of fresh linens and the soft glow of the lamps welcomed her back into her sanctuary. Lylah smiled, feeling a sense of comfort and relaxation wash over her. A small smile tugged at her lips. But that serenity was short-lived. The familiar scent of mint and wood hit her like a ghost of the past. She didn't even need to look to know he was there. He sat at the mini-bar, a glass in his hand, the liquid swirling as he twirled the glass. "So, where did you vanish to after your little moment with Mr. Replacement?", Raj muttered before draining his glass. Lylah just picked up the tv remote from the cobalt carpet, her gaze caught on his familiar blue baseball cap. She bent down to pick it up, but then she paused, the cap's familiar stitching pulling her back in time. A memory surged. "Handle with care, yo, brooooo", he teased. Lylah blinked away the tears. A lump formed in her throat. Another flashback, another wave she thought had long since stopped crashing. She pulled her hand away from the cap like it burned. Without looking at him, she breezed past the bar, dropping her bag on the bed, with a sigh, she slipped off her heels and massaged her ankle. Her gaze lingered on the tasteful artwork and the elegant curtains. This was her space-at least for the next few days. And she was ready to make the most of it. Maybe some room makeover shopping tomorrow. Something light, something fun. And so it was decided. Lylah walked into the bathroom, to freshen up, before she retired for bed. After all, she did have an adventurous day ahead of her the next day. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~❤️~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~❤️~~~~~~~~~~~~~~❤️~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lylah woke before her alarm. The early morning light seeped into her room through the sheer curtains, casting golden streaks across the room. For a moment, she just lay there, staring at the ceiling, letting her mind settle. There was no sign of Raj, no scent of liquor and definitely no baseball cap. Just peace. She sat up and stretched, rolling her shoulders. Today was hers. No ghosts. No drama. She pulled on some dark blue low-riser bell jeans and an off-the-shoulder crop top. Her gold necklace glinting faintly as she moved. A light beat of lip gloss, hoops in her ears and a sprint of sandalwood and citrus perfume. Simple. Fresh. Her phone buzzed. Conference Check-In Reminder "Don't forget to collect your badge by noon"! Plenty of time, she thought. She headed down to the lobby, taking the elevator alone. "Good morning Miss Jeurgens", May greeted. "Hope you slept well", she smiled. "I did, thank you", Lylah returned the smile. The air outside was crisp and welcoming. She grabbed a can of malt from the store on the corner and started walking-no destination, just a route that felt like hers. After a few blocks, she stumbled upon a small interior design boutique tucked between two art galleries. It was a gem-clean, minimal, but warm. The kind of place that whispered luxury without screaming it. She walked in, running her fingers along the edge of a velvet snow globe near the window. She could already see this on her side-drawer, or maybe before her dressing mirror. "Can I help you with anything?", a soft voice asked. She looked up to see a tall woman with nappy curls and warm brown skin standing behind her. "Just browsing", Lylah replied. "But your place is beautiful", she added. The woman smiled. "Thank you. I curate everything here myself. If you're furnishing, I'm offering 20% off custom orders for conference guests this week." Lylah paused. "Wait-you're part of the Conference?" "Presenter", the woman replied, offering her hand. "Aria" "Lylah", she replied, shaking it. "I'm just attending" They exchanged a few more words-about lighting, textures, favorite pieces. For the first time in a while, Lylah didn't feel haunted. She left the store with the snow globe, a velvet sample book and Aria's card. As she rounded the corner, heading back toward the hotel, she caught a glimpse of someone familiar crossing the street. Raj. He hadn't seen her. He was wearing that same blue cap, walking into a coffee shop on the other side of the road. She froze. Then turned in the opposite direction. She had things to do. A day to enjoy. She could deal with Raj later.Lylah Jeurgens walked down the hallway, her heels clicking softly against the plush carpet. She had stayed at this hotel before. The layout was familiar and comforting. The elevator bell dinged and Lylah sauntered out, but not without an exasperated sigh leaving her lips. "Good morning Miss Jeurgens", May greeted. Lylah only managed a smile. As she passed by May's desk, she realized she didn't know her way around and so paused. She swiftly turned, eyes on her joined fingers. Lylah lifted her gaze, finding warmth in May's chocolate eyes. "It's on your far right sweetie, second floor, glass doors", May winked. "Thank you", Lylah mouthed. Lylah sighed, her mind wandering off once again. She thought of how nice this would be if they were still together. It would be their mini-vacation. "And that would give him more reason to neglect his work since he got you", Lylah's subconscious told her. This was exactly what Mark had warned her about, because of which Liam had thrown digs at her. "Welcome", a dark curly lady greeted. "Your name please?" "Lylah Jeurgens", Lylah smiled. The lady who seemed to be in her early twenties, wrapped the tag arou
As Raj pushed the door open, Lylah slipped past him, her irritation palpable. She fell into the sofa as her head rested between her palms. This was utterly a nightmare for her. A nightmare she desperately wished she could wake up from. "Ly, check out the rooms and choose one", Raj offered. "Don't call me that", Lylah rolled her eyes. She rose, snatched her luggage from his grip. "What's your problem?", Raj yelled. Lylah abruptly turned, nostrils flaring. Her vision blurred as her lips wobbled up and down. "What's my problem?, what's my problem?", She mumbled the latter. "Are you really asking me this?", she yelled in addition. "You are my problem", Lylah cried, pointing her index finger at Raj. "I hate that I have to see you every single day. And I also hate the fact that I'm stuck with you for this whole week in some stupid suite", She threw her hands up. Raj's face darkened, his eyes narrowing as he took a step closer to Lylah. "So that's how you feel, huh?" he spat, his
Lylah's lingering gaze rested on the glowing crystal chandeliers as she stepped into the hotel lobby. Those pieces always attracted her. "This is exquisite", she thought. Her smile faltered immediately her gaze found Raj's, already on her. She swiftly looked elsewhere, looking at anybody but him. She steadily approached the receptionist desk, ready to lodge in and have a good rest. "Good evening ma'am, welcome to Golden Tulip. My name's May and how may I be of service", the receptionist smiled. Lylah's eyes locked onto the receptionist's warm smile, grateful for the distraction from Raj's piercing gaze. "Good evening," she replied, her voice smooth and confident. "Yes, we have a reservation for two bedrooms" The receptionist's fingers danced across the keyboard as she searched for the reservation. Lylah's gaze drifted around the lobby, taking in the elegant décor and the soft hum of conversation from the other guests. Raj stepped up beside her, his presence making her hear
"What's he doing here", Lylah repeated. Raj simply threw a smirk at the young lady. He enjoyed getting a reaction out of her every single time."Lylah, please join us", Mark pointed to the empty seat next to Raj.Lylah reluctantly walked to her seat, then finally sat down, trying her best not to offer Raj even a glance. She didn't want to see his stupid smirk again."I have an urgent assignment for you both", Mark cut to the chase.Lylah's eyes narrowed as she sat down next to Raj in Mark's office. She couldn't believe she was being forced to work with her ex again.Mark smiled, not quite oblivious to the tension between them, but he making money off his capable employees was more important. "So, I'm sure you're both aware of the upcoming conference for publishers. We've been invited to attend, and I think it's a great opportunity for us to network and learn more about the industry."Lylah's gut tightened as Mark dropped the bombshell. "I've decided that Lylah will be attending as
Lylah's eyes focused on the Tv screen as she tried to become fully engrossed in the movie she was watching. But her mind kept wandering back to the events of the previous day. The meeting, Raj's condescending attitude, and his blatant flirting with the new intern had left her seething. She tried to shake off the feeling of unease, focusing instead on the romantic comedy unfolding on screen.Just as she was starting to relax, her phone buzzed with an incoming call from her office.Lylah's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with the possibility that it might be Raj trying to provoke her again. She felt her anger simmering just below the surface, threatening to boil over. She contemplated on either sending the caller straight to her voicemail or answering the call."Lylah speaking", she answered curtly."Miss Jeurgens, this is Kim, Mr. Prose's secretary", the lady behind the voice announced.Lylah swallowed, waiting for the lady to continue. She had already submitted the Liason Project. She
