Chapter 1

The Start

In my previous life, my mate Garrett inherited both the Alpha position and his sister-in-law Sarah after his brother died in the war against the Rogue wolves.

He took her to Moonhaven Sanctuary—the most secure settlement in the entire Northern Territory—while leaving me behind in the abandoned, low-ranking wastelands of our pack.

My two pups died cold and hungry, torn apart and devoured by Rogue wolves.

When I opened my eyes again, I had returned to the day my pups were brutally killed.

After reborn, the first thing I did was guard my children relentlessly. After successfully evading the Rogue wolves' attack, I traded the engagement ring Garrett had given me to passing merchants, who then escorted us to Moonhaven Sanctuary.

The entire Northern Territory was under constant threat from Rogue wolves, so all Packs formed an alliance and established Moonhaven Sanctuary, guarded by the most elite warriors from every pack.

Only Alphas, Betas, and their recognized mates were permitted to dwell in the sacred Moonhaven Sanctuary.

Traveling in wolf form over rough terrain, we reached Garrett's camp after ten exhausting hours.

Only then did I realize his location was less than 300 miles from us.

Yet in three years, he hadn't returned to see us even once.

After speaking briefly with the guards at the camp entrance, they enthusiastically led us to where Garrett lived.

"Alpha! Luna! You have visitors," the guard announced, and the door opened.

A familiar voice called out, "Who is it?"

When we met face to face, Sarah and I both froze in shock.

She wore a pure white silk robe and brand-new deerskin boots, her hair cascading like a waterfall—clean and silky smooth.

I wore a leather cloak that had rotted over twelve years, reeking of mildew and blood.

My mane was tangled and matted, intertwined with dried grass and thorns, my skin roughened like tree bark from years of fighting and hard labor.

It was as if she were the noble and elegant Luna, while I was merely a lowly, weak Omega.

Sarah clearly hadn't expected me to come; her mouth opened and closed, at a loss for words.

Until Garrett noticed something was wrong and came out.

Seeing me and our two children, his eyes widened in an instant. He hurriedly pulled us into the tower.

He made no effort to hide his irritation. "Ember, didn't I tell you not to come here? Why did you bring the children too?"

I frowned. "Why did that guard call Sarah 'Luna'?"

The Alpha froze, panic flashing across his face.

At that moment, Sarah, having dealt with the guard, entered and heard my question. She quickly explained, "Ember, don't misunderstand. They're just being careless with titles."

Garrett nodded. "Right, the camp soldiers like to joke around. You know there's nothing between Sarah and me."

Just as he finished speaking.

A strong young wolf cub ran out from another room, placing his front paws on Garrett's waist armor. "Father! Why did you run out? Come back and continue our hunting game!"

I immediately recognized him as Sarah's cub, Cain.

Three years ago, he had been a sickly little wolf who could barely stand. Now he was muscular with gleaming fur.

Meanwhile, my children's ribs protruded sharply, their fur as dry as autumn grass, forced to scavenge for rotting rodents in the wasteland just to survive.

Let alone playing hunting games with their father—even falling asleep with full stomachs was a luxury beyond reach.

Sarah, seeing my expression change, quickly pulled Cain away.

Garrett approached me appeasingly. "Ember, my Luna, don't misunderstand. Cain calls me father because he doesn't remember my brother. Some wolf cubs in the camp mock him for not having a father. I'm just fulfilling my brother's responsibilities."

I remained silent.

His muscles tensed. "Surely you're not jealous of a cub?"
