Genevieve's Point of View

I paid the cab driver and quickly alighted from the car. Before I could take a step forward, the cab driver honked and I turned around.

"Miss, unless you have very important business in there, I wouldn't advise you to go in. It's dangerous," he said, his eyes glancing skeptically at the wide, doorless gate ahead.

"It's fine," I replied.

He released a long sigh. "Just be careful, Miss." Without wasting another second, he drove off at great speed.

Looking through the doorless gate, I realized it was just an open field inside, with trucks parked everywhere.

It's morning, but someone is blasting loud music from a nearby truck. Even though I was still outside the gate, the strong stench of engine oil, cigarettes, and sweat swiftly passed my nostrils. It's sure going to be chaos inside.

Taking a deep breath, I walked in, but I stopped abruptly as heads turned towards me. They were daring me to take another step or warning me to leave before it was too late for me.

  • Hated By My Husband, Loved By His Boss (A short story)   Chapter 19

Genevieve's point of viewI felt so heartbroken as I watched my mother leave. How could she choose an outsider over her biological child? How could she be heartless towards her own child?I’ve never felt so much hate and anger toward someone as I’m feeling toward Fred right now. The pain in me was too much. I just couldn’t hold it in anymore and wanted to vent.“Cora,” I called for our housekeeper.“Yes, Mrs. Enzo.”“Quick. Take me to where Fred is kept,” I said.“Shouldn’t we call Mr. Enzo to confirm if he wants you there?”I shook my head. “Just take me there right now. I’ll take the blame.”Hesitantly, she agreed.> > > > > > > My pace quickened as I walked through the familiar, dimly lit passage. I could hear Fred’s agonizing howl as I approached his cell, and the anger in me increased. When I arrived at his cell, I saw Enzo grabbing a hot rod, and before I could guess his next move, he stabbed it through Fred’s left thigh. Another agonizing howl escaped his lips, and I oddly fou

  • Hated By My Husband, Loved By His Boss (A short story)   Chapter 18

Genevieve's Point of ViewMy back hit the bed’s headboard as I tried to move away from him. Nowhere to escape. No place to hide.He came on top of me; his weight held me down as he grabbed my hands and held them above my head.“When was the last time I tasted you?” he asked.“Let me go! Let go of me, you beast!” I cried as I fought against him, trying to free myself from him. But unfortunately, he’s a man, and he’s way stronger than me.“It’s been so long, Genevieve. I’m starting to forget how you taste,” he said.“Please, don’t do this,” I pleaded repeatedly, but my pleas fell on deaf ears.“I know you miss me too. You’re just pretending. We were married for many years—you can’t move on so easily.”He let go of my hands and held my face. He leaned closer as he tried to capture my lips, but I didn’t let him as I shook my head vehemently. I randomly threw punches at him—my punches were weak, though, and could barely hurt him.“Why are you playing hard to get now? Or have you forgotten

  • Hated By My Husband, Loved By His Boss (A short story)   Chapter 17

Genevieve's Point of View"Is that not Fred? Your ex-husband?" Kayla asked.Just then, my phone beeped as a notification popped up. I checked it and realized it was from Fred. The text read, "I need to talk to you. It's urgent!"Reading my expression, Kayla already knew the text was from him."What does he want?" she asked with pure disdain in her voice."I don't know. He only said he needs to talk to me," I replied.I studied his expression, and from our angle, he looked worried.Instead of going to meet him as he had requested, I dialed his number, and he picked up on the first ring."What do you want to talk about?" I asked in a cold tone."Genevieve, I'm sorry," he apologized.Kayla urged me to put him on speakerphone, and I did."Your apology is not needed. We are free from each other's claws now. Let's move on."I wanted to hang up, but his next words stopped me."Kelvin... he's dying," he said."What? What happened to him?""I don't know what happened to him. He just started vo

  • Hated By My Husband, Loved By His Boss (A short story)   Chapter 16

Genevieve's Point of ViewA frustrated groan escaped my lips as I reached for my ringing alarm clock, turned it off, and went back to sleep. But just as soon as I turned off the alarm clock, my phone began ringing."Who's trying to piss me off?!" I grumbled.I reached for my phone, and without checking the caller ID, I pressed it against my ear."Hello?""Girl! Don't tell me you're still in bed!" Kayla's angry voice boomed from the other side.I sprang up at once. Sleep deserted me as my eyes zeroed in on the alarm clock, and I gasped loudly."10:30 a.m.?!" I exclaimed.Kayla scoffed in disbelief. "I knew it. You are definitely still in bed.""Listen, Kayla, I slept—""Hold it," she interrupted me. "Save your excuses for when I see you. Now... get your ass off the bed and freshen up! You have twenty minutes!""Yes, ma'am," I replied. She huffed dramatically and hung up.Just when I was about to get off the bed, Enzo came in.My breath caught in my throat, and I swallowed hard when I t

  • Hated By My Husband, Loved By His Boss (A short story)   Chapter 15

Genevieve's Point of ViewI could feel Enzo's gaze on my back as I chopped some tomatoes. He'd been asking me the same question over and over again since we came back from the orphanage."Babygirl, are you sure I'm not dreaming?" he asked for the hundredth time.I rolled my eyes and let out a tired sigh. "Just go and rest in the living room and stop bothering me," I hissed."I just want to be sure this is not a dream." He pulled his shirt up and stretched out his arm. "Pinch me."I narrowed my eyes and placed my hands on my waist. Then a wicked idea suddenly crossed my mind as I stared at his naked arm. I let out an evil laugh."Sure," I said.I grabbed the hot spatula, soaked it in a bowl of water until it was cool enough not to hurt someone's skin—just hot enough to wake up a sleeping man."Close your eyes, gentleman.""I'm not a gentleman, babygirl," he said in a flirtatious tone.I groaned in frustration. "Just close your eyes!" I snapped. He laughed but closed his eyes anyway. I

  • Hated By My Husband, Loved By His Boss (A short story)   Chapter 14

Genevieve's Point of ViewEnzo faced me with a pleading expression.“Babygirl, can you trust me just this once?” he asked.“Why can’t he say it in front of me? I want to know who’s after my life,” I argued.“I will tell you once we get home. I just want to confirm something privately with him,” he explained.I wanted to argue. I wanted to stay and hear who was intending to kill me, but we’d just talked about trust, and I shouldn’t start doubting him because of this.“Okay,” I said and went out. I met Cora outside; she rushed after me as I stormed toward the direction of the children’s playground.>>>>>>>Third Person's Point of View“Speak! Who was it?” Enzo asked after he made sure Genevieve was out of hearing.“It’s your father, sir.”Enzo clenched his jaw, his eyes darkened, and the anger brewing in him could set the orphanage ablaze.“Don’t tell my wife about this, no matter how hard she pressures you!” he said.“Yes, boss.”Just as the man was about to leave, Enzo called him back
