CREST POV
"Have you heard? The alpha of the north will come here tomorrow! Ahhh!" she screamed out of excitement while clapping her hands rapidly and strolling around the kitchen. I continued to mix the dough in the bowl, ignoring her statement. "I heard he's still unmated... Oh my goddess, the most fearsome alpha is still unmated!" she added, slamming both of her hands at the counter top island of the kitchen, then she forwarded her face towards mine with a bright beam and sparkling eyes, "Come shopping with me!" "What?!" I rose a brow up, surprised at her sudden request. "We need to get a new dress... and, you know, get ourselves to a spa and have some beautiful rest," "For what?" I lazily ask as I stroll back to the overhead cabinet to get some sugar. "Oh, Ceecee, come on. You know the reason! " She put her hands on her chin and back to her hair, waving it in the air,"to make ourselves presentable and... attractive as much as possible," "Why?" I sarcastically responded with disgust at how she made her face look as seductive as possible, making her cleavage to pop out in front of me. She's lucky, the goddess has blessed her to have a sexy physique, but I don't really care about those things she mentioned. I am fine with the way I look and the way I am. "Don't be so stupid!" She stomped her feet like a child and crossed her arms in front of her chest,"Why? Because, girl, come on! We are both unmated, and it has been years of waiting! What if one of them turns to be our mate or... ohhh! What if the alpha himself?" she made a surprised look on her face. I rolled my eyes before facing her as I walk back to the table and continued making some cupcake mix. "First, I don't need to get a new dress just because some 'unmated' alpha will be here tomorrow. I have a lot of formal dress here and my family, especially, my father and I, will only be discussing with them about some business and pack matters; second, I am not interested in anything about mates, so..." I lifted my face high and gave her a pointed look," So, that's why." Sasha sighed in defeat. She knew me very well, and she knew that I am not into those things. I don't know why she even proposed the idea to me where she knew all along that having a mate is the very last thing on my mind, or atleast. I don't really feel like having one, why? Hmmm, many reasons. Having a mate is a nuisance, others say that it is the best thing in life. For me though, no. I have been trained to be an alpha of this pack in the future, and I worked hard to get that title, so being in a mate-thing relationship will only make me less than my partner. So if I am mated to an alpha, then will I be a luna? A luna!, goddess, I hate it. I respect my mother as luna in this pack, but the concept of that, nah. Being a luna only means that you are the bearer of the next heir, nothing more. Some alphas don't want their lunas to be at work or atleast 'help' them in running the pack. I'm lucky that my father had me as the firstborn daughter, so he doesn't have a choice but to make me, or rather, train me to be the next alpha of this pack. I will be the very first alpha female in werewolf history, and that excites me. I want to rewrite the history or even surprise it that a female or a woman is more than just being a bearer of an heir or just someone that belongs to the kitchen, no! Women have power and strengths too! We can fight, we can decide, we can do whatever we want! I'm Crest by the way, the firstborn of the southern pack. Ever since my first shift, my father has taught me a lot of things, most of them were how to be an alpha female. Meeting with the other alphas is always a thing these days. My father has to renew the peace treaty and our alliance with them. It has also been some years since my eighteenth birthday, and most of my friends expected me to find my mate that day but, lucky for me, I still haven't. Some of them have found their mates already, and I am happy about that. For me, having mates is sacred. True. The moon goddess blessed all wolves to have their mates and reproduce. Speaking of reproduction, it has been the only role that the she-wolves had. A lot of she-wolves work only in the kitchen, tend to their children, and make their mates happy. My mother is no different from them, just a little. She helped my father with the pack matters, but since the rogues' attacked us from time to time, my father decided to let my mother stay in the house. See? You'll get my point right? Women always stay behind their man's back. So I decided, once the title was passed down to me, I would declare that all she-wolves should learn to fight too. Women shouldn't be all dependent on their man. They should learn to stand by themselves alone. "You know, Ceecee. Someday, you're going to meet your mate and not soon after, you'll come to me, begging me to teach you the things that you don't know," Sasha said as she walked towards the exit. "And what is that that I don't know?" I responded with high pride,"I have been trained in a lot of things, Sissy, so there's nothing that I don't know," "Hmmm... really? We'll see," she then stomped outside, but before disappearing from my sight, she turned around to face me. "You may be smart and know a lot of things, but you know nothing how to satisfy a man," she waved her bum sideways and seductively, before giving me a smug smirk then left. I just rolled my eyes and sighed.CREST POVAll that time, I hadn’t noticed that the moon was already setting himself up in the sky. The silver orb hung high, casting long, skeletal shadows across the dense forest floor. I tried to calm the frantic beating of my heart, taking deep, steadying breaths of the cool night air. For the last time, I tried to call out to my wolf, but to no avail. She was still out there, locked away in the deepest, most recessed part of my mind, hiding herself from me.Perhaps she was angry at me. Angry for turning her fur into the color she hated most, for forcing her to hide her true power, and for compelling her to do something that the Goddess of the Moon herself might get angry at.I desperately wanted to connect with her again. I wanted to ask for her forgiveness, to feel the comforting warmth of her presence, and to make everything right between us. But maybe I would have to wait until after these trials. I couldn't risk my position yet. I couldn't risk having a mate now, either. I kne
HUNTER’S POVThe cold mist of the waterfall filled my lungs, relaxing my breathing and soothing my mind. For a brief moment, the heavy burden of my upcoming responsibilities faded into the roar of the rushing water. Then, a faint friction of whispers snapped me back to reality.I furrowed my brows, my ears twitching as they dialed in on the source of the sound. Slowly, I pulled myself away from the edge of the water, careful not to let the river stones click beneath my feet. I peered deep into the heart of the forest. The canopy of trees are thick and oppressive here, casting the woods into a premature twilight, hiding the greatest wonder called the Lily river waterfall. Still, my wolf sight picked up two distinct figures moving through the shadows. The dense crowd of ancient trees hid this waterfall from normal sight. It was a sanctuary known to only a select few. As I stealthily crept toward the hushed voices, my wolf suddenly stirred, letting out a low, vibrating growl in my chest
CREST POV"Slow down now, I think we already passed them," Estella whispered. We made it into the center of the forest, just outside the border walls of the Lily River Campsite."I'm glad you made it just in time. I thought the patrols were going to catch me."She smiled, knowing she had saved me many times in just a single week.A short while ago, I was hiding in the bushes waiting for the border patrols to shift duties. When I tried to run after finding an opening, one patrol member came back to the border and almost saw me running toward the gate. Thankfully, Estella arrived just in time. She used her skills to charm those guards again and let me cross the walls."Where are we going now?" she asked."Let's roam the area and hope that none of the traps catch us.""We're literally outside the assessment field, so I guess there are no traps here.""We don't know that yet. What if they put traps here too, just in case some aspirants head toward this area?"She shook her head in disagre
CREST’S POV"How can we get out of here? The place is swarming with guards after what you did," Estella whispered into my face. We were huddled together, planning to scout the area for the assessment scheduled for tomorrow. After the havoc I’d caused, my uncle, the commander, had ordered the guards to stay alert and monitor my situation while I rested in one of the camp barracks."You’ve known this place longer than I have. In order for me to pass the assessment, we need to do this," I whispered back."Yes, but the guards... can't you see them?""We need a plan.""Now you want a plan? Did you think of one before you swallowed all that perfume?"I rolled my eyes at her. "Look, I know I’ve made some hasty decisions lately, but it was for a good reason."She sighed."You know I trust you, right?" I gave her a wide smile. "This time, I’m relying on you, since you know the layout better than I do.""Fine. But to burst your bubble, I haven't actually seen the center of the area where the as
HUNTER POV"D*mn it!" I grunted. I had tried to connect with my wolf dozens of times to no avail. Ever since I’d caught that strange scent on our way to the barracks, my wolf had been pacing restlessly in the back of my mind.Even he didn't seem to understand what was happening. Something about that scent irritated him. He wanted out, and I did my best to maintain control. He had already begun to lash out; he’d rampaged through the trees and smashed some of the stone walls on the far side of the Lily River Camp.I hoped no member of the Council saw this. If they did, my family’s reputation would be ruined.I ran toward the heart of the forest until a beautiful waterfall cascading over a massive wall of rock caught my attention. The mist it created refreshed my mind. I inhaled the damp air, and it finally cooled down my hot-headed wolf. Little by little, I felt the connection returning, though it wasn't full yet. I still couldn't speak to him or get a response. His fur was a mess, and
Crest POV"Urgh..."I groaned as the sound of rustling nearby dragged me back to consciousness. My head throbbed, and when I tried to open my eyes, everything was a dizzying blur. I couldn't remember much—just a hazy memory of my entire body feeling like it was on fire."Oh, thank the Goddess, you're awake!" A woman’s voice rushed toward me. "I’ve been crying for hours, blaming myself for letting you take that perfume.""Estella? What... what happened?""You collapsed just a few feet from the entrance.""Right. We made it?""We did. And thank Goddess, your uncle was there to help."I tried to smile and push myself up, but a sharp ache shot through my limbs. Estella immediately reached out to steady me, and as she did, I noticed dark bruises blooming across her arms."What happened to you?" I asked, frowning. "Why are you covered in bruises?"She hesitated, biting her lip. "Well... you kind of w
