Letter writing

What irritated Seraphine most about holding the parties is the fact she had to write all the letters herself— at least the important ones— in order to show her so-called sincerity.

When she asked for help, Betty was against it, saying it would be great practice for Seraphine for her letter writing skills were terrible.

Betty was kind enough to reassure her that because of her status, barely anyone would openly show their displeasure.

Of course, Seraphine knew what Betty was trying to actually convey in terms of those words were she was already mocked in the society, things couldn't get worse for her.

Seraphine stared at her literary skills and then her handwriting. It didn't take long for embarrassment to fill her, and even if she wasn't a perfectionist plus couldn't care less about the letters, it still would be humiliating for her to send these letters out.
