I had gone back to the ballroom and instantly regretted it but I couldn't leave because Tessa and Naomi practically clung to me cause they thought I'd run off again. The ballroom felt like it was closing in on me.

Laughter and clinking glasses filled the air, but it all sounded distant—like I was hearing it through a tunnel. I stood between Naomi and Tessa, trying to keep my breathing calm. Trying to blend in. Trying not to look across the room… but failing.

Because I could feel their eyes on me.

Still and Unrelenting.

They hadn't moved from their spot since we all... talked. Three of them looking like hotshot models while staring straight at me. White button-downs clinging to their bodies like they were sewn onto their skin, Maddox's tie slightly crooked, Kyren jacket forgotten, Jaxon's hair damp from probably washing his face. All staring. No smirks. No jeers.

Just that look.

Like they knew me. Like they wanted me... like they yearned for me.

And Goddess help me, I hated that my heart responded.

“Hey,” Naomi nudged me gently. “You’re zoning again.”

“Sorry,” I muttered and snapped my eyes back to them. “I just… didn’t sleep well.”

Which wasn’t a total lie. How could I sleep after last night? After shifting for the first time? After realizing that I would find my mate to today and after finding out it's them, my mind is swirling.

I wasn’t ready.

I wasn’t okay.

And clearly, the Moon Goddess didn’t care.

“Daphne,” Tessa suddenly whispered, her eyes narrowing past me. “Oh no...”

Before I could ask, a familiar voice—one I’d prayed I wouldn’t hear tonight—cut through the air.

“Well, well, Hathaway. Didn’t know they let charity cases into events like this.”

I turned slowly. Arson. Arrogant. Rude. One of the pack's golden boy only because his parents were loaded. He looked me up and down with a sneer that twisted his already smug face.

“I see you scrubbed up nice,” he said, stepping closer. “But no matter how much glitter you pour on a mutt, it’s still a mutt.”

Tessa stepped forward. “Back off, Arson. Seriously. Go fuck yourself."

“Or what?” he scoffed, pushing past her. His hand latched onto my wrist, fingers digging in. I winced. “Didn’t say I was done talking to—”

It happened so fast, the air cracked.

A growl thundered from behind me, deep and primal, and the next thing I knew, Arson was flying backward.

I scented him before I saw him. Cool rain and smoke.

He moved so fast at werewolf speed. His hand was twisted tight around Arson’s wrist — no, arm — and the sickening snap that followed made my stomach churn.

Arson hit the ground, howling in pain, clutching his broken arm.

Maddox didn’t even look the least bit concerned.

His other arm wrapped around my waist, yanking me against his chest with a force that sent chills down my spine. His scent — cool rain and fire — hit me like a storm, and without thinking, I inhaled.

Warmth curled low in my stomach and I almost sighed in pleasure.

No.

No.

No no no.

“Don’t you fucking dare touch her again,” Maddox snarled, his voice low and lethal. “I won’t hesitate to break your second arm if I see you five feet near her.”

Arson whimpered, clutching his wrist. “S-sorry, Alpha…”

He scrambled up and bolted into the crowd.

The ballroom had gone silent.

Dozens of eyes stared at us. No one dared move.

I shoved Maddox’s chest with both hands but he only moved and inch but he let me break free from his grip, even though part of me screamed to stay there just a little longer.

“Don’t touch me,” I hissed, ignoring the way my pulse raced.

“Daphne—” his voice was hurt, eyes dark, chest heaving like he was barely keeping his wolf contained.

But I was already moving.

I ran for the third time that morning, heels clicking, pushing through stunned pack members, out the doors, down the hallway—until the cold air of the night hit my face. I ran until I found myself few feets away from my home. I guess the werewolf speed was kicking in.

My breath came in gasps.

Tears blurred my vision.

This wasn’t happening. It couldn’t be.

They couldn’t be mine.

And I sure as hell couldn’t be theirs.

Not after everything.

Not after what they’d done.

Not after who I’d been to them.

So why do I want to fall back into his arms again?

I hadn’t taken five steps down the cracked sidewalk when strong arms yanked me backward—smooth as smoke. His scent hit me first.Maddox.His chest pressed against my back, one hand splayed at my waist like he’d claimed it by birthright. He buried his face in the crook of my neck and inhaled deeply.A low sigh rumbled through his chest as he nuzzled closer. “You smell like vanilla… honeysuckle… and want,” he murmured against my ear—lips brushing my skin in a way that made goosebumps erupt across every inch of me.What the hell?“Little mate, you’re soaked for me already?”My breath hitched sharply, eyes widened.I was stunned—not just by what he’d said—but how every nerve ending lit up beneath his voice alone. My pulse thundered between thighs I didn’t even know could throb, let alone for Maddox, who used to make school feel like prison sentences delivered daily.I was mortified. And worse? His nose twitched—he knew. Knew exactly how much I responded despite myself—and now whispered it

  • Her Alphas.   Chapter Thirteen - The Whispering pack

I shouldn’t have left the house. But staying cooped up after everything was starting to make me feel caged. So, I told my aunt I was heading to Tessa and Naomi’s. She didn’t ask questions — probably sensed I needed the space... and she was sick soo... I also needed to visit Tessa and Naomi. They were probably mad at me for ditching them and running off without so much as an explanation. The morning air was sharp, brushing cool fingers against my cheeks as I made my way down the narrow path past the central pack road. A few people milled about, chatting or heading to the market, but the moment I stepped into view, the air shifted. Whispers. Quick glances. Then louder. “That’s her — the rogue girl.” “Did you see the triplets yesterday? Practically chasing her like pups.” “I heard she used some rogue magic. They say she has a white wolf.” My feet faltered. No one should know that. No one does. Only Naomi and Tessa were there when I shifted. So how…? I kept walking, pretending

  • Her Alphas.   Chapter twelve - So she kissed you back?

THIRD PERSON'S POV. The study was dimly lit, but the tension was anything but subtle. Maddox leaned back in one of the leather chairs, a soda in hand, still wearing his wrinkled button-down and lopsided tie from the coronation. Jaxon, ever composed, sat behind the desk with a whiskey glass he hadn’t touched, staring at the flickering fireplace. Then the door creaked open, and in walked Kyren. He barely made it two steps before Maddox’s nose twitched. “Is that…” Maddox sniffed the air dramatically. “Vanilla?” Jaxon’s head turned slowly, a smile teasing his lips. “And forest pine.” Maddox’s eyes widened. “You little—” “I didn’t do anything,” Kyren said raising his hands in surrender, though the pink in his ears gave him away. Maddox stood, pointing an accusing finger towards him. “You snuggled her!” Kyren blinked, brows furrowing. “You sniffed me and got all that?” “I knew it,” Maddox grumbled, slumping back into his chair. “Ky got to her first. The shy one. The sweet one. Th

I didn’t move. Just stared into his ocean blue eyes that was suddenly pulling me to him.My breath was shaky, caught somewhere between 'what the hell just happened' and 'why do I want it to happen again'5. Kyren took a small step back, eyes searching mine — those sea-blue eyes now darkened with something I wasn’t ready to name.“I’m sorry,” he said softly. “I... I didn’t mean to... do that. Not like that.”I blinked, my heart still hammering. “You broke into my room.” I repeated, my mind racing. His lips twitched again. “Technically, the window did that. I just… followed the were the wind took me.”I rolled my eyes, even as my chest tightened. “You have five minutes. Talk.”His gaze sobered immediately. “We didn’t know, Daphne. Not until the coronation. Not until your scent… it hit us like a truck. I wish I had an excuse for all the things we said — the things we did. But I don’t. There’s nothing I can say to erase the past, but I need you to know…” He hesitated, jaw clenched. “I... i

  • Her Alphas.   Chapter Ten - Gone

Jaxon’s POVShe ran.Not just walked away, not flinched like she used to, not snapped back like we half-hoped she would. She ran.Maddox stood frozen in the middle of the ballroom, fists clenched, chest rising and falling like a wild animal still caged beneath his skin. He did. Blood pounded in his ears, his jaw ticking, but his eyes… they weren’t angry. They were wrecked. Desperate. Wanting... Hurt. He stormed up to his room and Kyren and I followed him. We stepped into his room and his head was in his hands. I could literally feel his hurt and guilt. The triplets bond was that strong and we all felt the same way nevertheless.Kyren appeared at my side. “She’s gone?”I didn’t answer. I didn’t need to. We all saw it. “She was shaking,” Kyren murmured, eyes fixed on the now-empty doors. “Terrified.”“I hurt her,” Maddox muttered, voice like sandpaper. “Again.”“She’s not used to anyone protecting her,” I said. “Especially not us.”The silence that followed was thick with guilt and pai
