Chapter 4: Fractured Hearts

Sora woke the next morning in her own bed, sunlight filtering through the curtains and casting soft patterns across the sheets. Her body still carried the faint ache and warmth from Jack’s touch the night before — not just physical, but the lingering echo of being truly seen and desired. Yet as consciousness returned fully, guilt crashed over her like a wave.

Melvin had only been gone a day. And she had already given herself to another man.

She sat up slowly, her generous curves shifting under the covers. The soft roll of her belly, the thickness of her thighs — features Melvin had mocked relentlessly — had been worshipped by Jack with genuine reverence. He had whispered praises between kisses, making her feel beautiful for the first time in years. But was she allowed to feel that so soon?

Her phone buzzed on the nightstand. Two messages.

**George:** Good morning, Sora. I hope you slept okay. I’m thinking about you. If you need company today, I’m here. No pressure. Just want you to know you’re not facing this alone.

**Jack:** Last night meant more to me than you know. Take the day off if you need it. But when you’re ready, come back to me. I want to take care of you properly, Sora.

Sora stared at the screen, her heart twisting. Two very different men offering her what Melvin never had: emotional safety and passionate care. She typed quick replies to both, thanking them and promising to stay in touch. Then she forced herself out of bed to face the day.

---

At the Harrison mansion later that afternoon, Sora found George in the sunroom, reading a book. His broad frame filled the wheelchair comfortably, and when he looked up and saw her, his entire face softened with genuine warmth.

“You came,” he said, setting the book aside. “I wasn’t sure if you would after everything.”

Sora sat on the cushioned bench near him, close enough that their knees almost touched. “I needed to see a friendly face. Last night… I went to the office. Jack was kind. Really kind. We talked. And… more.”

George’s jaw tightened slightly, but he didn’t pull away. Instead, he reached for her hand. “I won’t pretend I’m not jealous. But I also won’t pretend I have any right to demand exclusivity right now. You just lost your husband. Your world is upside down. All I ask is that you let me be here for you — as a friend first. As someone who genuinely cares about your heart, not just your body.”

His honesty touched her deeply. Sora squeezed his hand. “You make me feel safe, George. Like I can breathe. Jack makes me feel desired… powerful, even. I don’t know what I’m doing. I feel guilty and confused and… alive, all at once.”

George nodded, understanding flickering in his eyes. “Then we take it one day at a time. You deserve to explore what makes you feel good after years of being torn down. Just know that my feelings for you run deep, Sora. I’ve admired you quietly for a long time. Your strength, your kindness, the way your laugh fills a room. Your beautiful curves are just one part of what draws me to you.”

They spent the afternoon talking — really talking. Sora opened up about her dreams of independence, her fears of never being enough, and the small joys she had suppressed to please Melvin. George shared his own struggles with his disability, his complicated relationship with his father Victor, and how the family inheritance pressure weighed on him.

For the first time, Sora felt like an equal in conversation, not just a body to be used or shamed. When George wheeled closer and pulled her gently onto his lap, she went willingly. Their kiss was slow and tender at first, building into something deeper and more passionate. His hands explored her soft body with reverence, squeezing her thick thighs and full hips while murmuring how perfect she felt.

“You’re everything, Sora,” he whispered against her neck. “Let me show you how a man should worship the woman he cares for.”

Their intimacy that afternoon was emotional as much as physical — slow, caring, filled with whispers and eye contact that made Sora feel truly cherished. George’s touch was patient and skilled, proving that his disability did nothing to diminish his ability to make her feel desired and safe.

---

Later that evening, Sora returned to Blackwood Corporation at Jack’s request. He met her in his office with open arms, pulling her into a deep, possessive kiss the moment the door closed.

“I couldn’t stop thinking about you,” he admitted, forehead resting against hers. “Not just last night, but for months before. Watching you endure that marriage… it killed me. You deserve the world, Sora. And I want to give it to you.”

Jack’s confession carried weight. He told her fragments of his own past — a difficult childhood that taught him to guard his heart, and how Sora’s quiet resilience had cracked his armor. Their connection deepened as he made love to her again on the couch, this time slower, more intimate, with constant praise and eye contact that made her heart race.

“You’re not just beautiful, Sora,” he said as they lay together afterward, his fingers tracing the soft curve of her belly. “You’re strong. Intelligent. The kind of woman who makes a man want to build empires and burn them down for her. I’m falling for you. Hard.”

Sora’s emotions swirled. Jack offered power, passion, and protection. George offered tenderness and understanding. Both men saw value in her beyond her body.

But as she left the building, her phone rang with an unknown number.

“Mrs. Robbins?” A doctor’s voice came through, sounding urgent. “This is Dr. Patel from Mercy General. There was a mistake in the initial assessment. Your husband, Melvin Robbins… he’s alive. He’s in a medically induced coma, but his condition is stable. The brain trauma was severe, but he’s fighting. You should come as soon as possible.”

Sora froze in the middle of the parking garage, the world spinning around her.

Melvin was alive.

The man she had mourned, the man she had begun to move on from — was coming back.

Tears filled her eyes as conflicting emotions warred inside her: relief that he wasn’t dead, terror at what his return would mean, and guilt over the two men who had already begun claiming pieces of her heart.

She didn’t know it yet, but across town in the private hospital wing, Melvin’s eyes fluttered open for the first time. Cassie Brown leaned over him, her elegant features lit with obsessive devotion.

“Shh, darling,” she whispered, stroking his cheek. “You’re safe with me now. The world believes you’re gone. Let’s keep it that way a little longer… while I make sure Sora never gets you back.”

He was always so handsome. Wonder what she did to make him want a divorce…”“…clearly let herself go. No wonder he was looking elsewhere…”Sora’s fingers tightened around the program in her hands. Towering columns and manicured gardens stretched out before her, but it wasn’t the luxury that made her breath catch — it was the overwhelming sense of safety.Miranda was waiting at the grand entrance, her warm smile cutting through Sora’s exhaustion like sunlight. “You’re here,” her best friend said, pulling her into a tight hug. “And you’re staying as long as you need. No arguments.”Sora nodded, her full figure relaxing into the embrace. She had packed lightly, but the small suitcase suddenly felt heavier with the weight of everything she was leaving behind. “Thank you, Mira. I didn’t know where else to go.”“You don’t need anywhere else,” Miranda replied, taking her arm. “Come on. **Chapter 7: Fractured Reality**Sora stepped through the front door of the penthouse she had once called home, and the silence hit her like a physical force. The beeps of hospital machines still echoed in her ears, but here, everything was still. Too still. She slipped off her shoes, the soft click of her heels against marble the only sound breaking the quiet. Her full hips swayed gently as she moved through the familiar hallway, her simple black dress clinging to her generous curves. For years, she had avoided mirrors in this house, but tonight her reflection caught her eye in the tall foyer glass. She didn’t look away. The living room smelled faintly of Melvin’s cologne — sharp, expensive, cold. She trailed her fingers along the back of the leather sofa where he had so often criticized her for “taking up too much space.” Her throat tightened. On the kitchen island, she found them. The divorce papers. They lay exactly where he had left them, unsigned. Chapter 6: Awakening ShadowsSora’s hands trembled as she pushed open the door to Melvin’s private hospital room. The beeps of the machines had become a haunting soundtrack over the past few days, but today they felt different — more urgent, more alive. Dr. Patel had called her urgently: Melvin was showing strong signs of waking. After nearly a week in the induced coma, her husband was fighting his way back to consciousness.George wheeled silently beside her, his presence a steady anchor. He reached over and squeezed her hand. “Whatever happens in there, remember you’re not the same woman who walked into that restaurant with him last week. You’ve grown. You have people who truly see you now.”Sora nodded, drawing strength from his words. George had become her safe harbor — his gentle yet intense affection a constant reminder that she deserved more than Melvin’s cruelty. Jack had been equally supportive, sending messages and flowers while respecting her need for space to process the
