There were a few moments of confusion in the bar then a loud explosion that rattled the glass bottles on the shelves behind the bar. The old lady rushes for the door at the back of the bar and shouts through it,

“GIRL, are you okay?” it must lead downstairs,

“I’m all good, Moll. Just don’t come down here yet. You’ll just get sad; I promise I’ll fix it. Just never let Jack near this thing again.” The old lady sags, and sighs, then whispers,

“My distillery…” She sounds so sad; it nearly breaks Ash’s heart. She wipes a tear from her eye, then turns back to the bar to continue serving, sniffing gently. Two patrons come over to offer condolences to the lady, who Ash now knows is called Molly. A few minutes later the redhead came up to the back of the bar. She looked as if she’d been soaked,

“Molly.” She sighs, “I’m sorry, I know I smell awful, the barrel of cleaning liquor got hit by a large chunk of copper that flew off the boiler and I got drenched in the stuff. I’m going to go change, but I’ll probably be smelling of the stuff for days.” Molly nods, and wrings her hands,

“And the distillery?” The woman sighs, and nods,

“Most of it is salvageable, but I’ll need some parts for the bits that blew up and the gauge he messed with. I have no idea how he messed it up but it wasn’t registering the pressure, I’m lucky I noticed the copper bending before it blew.” Molly nods,

“Let me look you over before you change, girl.” Molly turns the woman around, then grimaces. “There’s some shrapnel in your shoulder, I can’t reach it.” She scanned the room and called to Mal, “You, Mr Vampire Prince. You’re tall, could you help us out here?” Mal looks stunned but nods and walks over. The redhead looks unimpressed but stands still.

“Molly, is this really necessary? I could kneel so you can reach.” Molly huffs,

“Nonsense, I know your back’s playing you up, and standing is better than kneeling.” The redhead sighs and nods, dropping her head a touch to show deference,

“Yes, Molly.” She turns to Mal, “Hi, thanks for taking time out of your evening to help me, your Royal Highness.” She gives him a small curtsey then turns holding her hair out of the way for him to reach the bit of metal. He carefully inspects it,

“I’m sorry if this hurts, I’m not trying to make it worse.” She chuckles softly,

“Pain is an old friend, and it reminds me just how much of an arse it is daily, this is nothing new. But I appreciate the concern for my well-being. I would however appreciate it if my blood could remain outside of your person though. Personal preference, you understand, Sir.” He smirks,

“I would never take your blood without explicit consent. But I understand the caution.” She nods and stills while he slowly and carefully removes the small jagged piece of copper from her shoulder. She holds herself perfectly still but grunts softly as it moves, Mall mutters softly, “I’m sorry.” He hands the copper off to Molly who chucks it into a bin under the bar. She sighs,

“Tolerance for pain isn’t numbness to it. But thank you, it feels much better without the metal in my shoulder.” He nods,

“Should I do anything else?” She hums,

“If you could just hold the edges of the wound together for about five seconds. I heal very quickly, but it’ll make it less itchy while it does, thank you.” Mal nods and carefully does so while Ash remains seated in the booth with their drinks. Ash takes another small sip of his drink, wondering if Molly distils her own whisky in the basement and if that’s why it’s like nothing he’d ever tasted before.

“There, I think it’s stopped bleeding. If there’s a cloth or something I can wipe it clean for you.” Molly holds out a damp napkin and Mal carefully wipes the area clean. “All clean and the bleeding has stopped.” She nods,

“Thank you.” The redhead says, “I’m going to go change, I think I still have some clothes in the back room somewhere.” Molly nods, going back to her customers and gestures through the door,

“Your duffle is in the back corner, but I don’t know what you’ve got in it.” The redhead nods,

Anything would be better than this, thanks Molly. I’ll be out soon and help on the bar.” Molly nods, seemingly satisfied and makes her way back down the bar to continue serving people. Mal makes his way back over to Ash and sits down with a thump, whooshing his breath out as he does.

“Well, she’s incredible up close too.” Mal mutters and runs his hands through his hair. “And her skin feels wonderful. So smooth and warm.” Ash chuckles again,

“Of course she feels warm to you, idiot, we’re cold. Vampires, so-called living dead.” He gestures to himself and Mal laughs and takes another sip of his drink. Ash wants it to last, but knowing he wants an excuse to go to the bar once she comes back out from the back again, he makes a more concerted effort to finish his drink.

He didn’t want it to look too obvious what he was doing, so he took a minute or two by which time she’d reappeared. She’s now wearing a dark grey long-sleeved top, with some of the top buttons undone, showing off her impressive cleavage and making Ash have to catch himself before he starts drooling. She rolls up the sleeves as she approaches the bar, showing tattoos that swirl around her arms. He can’t tell from here what they’re supposed to be, but they look interesting from here.

Eliza and Connor make their way back to the table, with two plates each and Eliza sits back down sighing deeply. Kai looks at her, and she tries to smile, but it’s unconvincing. He rests a hand on her hip, and leans in to her ear.“Baby, I can tell you’re not okay. I know that it’s a sad day, but something else is bothering you, I can feel it.” She nods,“I’m worried, this morning’s excitement has me on edge.” She rolls her shoulders, and shakes her head, “There’s nothing definitive, it’s just a feeling.” He nods, kissing her temple. Charlie looks at her, raising an eyebrow.“What happened this morning?” Eliza sighs,“I didn’t want you to worry, but I would have told you eventually.” She pushes the plate away from her, and gets up to come around to Charlie, she leans down and whispers in her ear. Kai doesn’t need to listen, and so scans the room for anyone that looks like they don’t belong. He can’t see anything off, and frowns. Ash puts a hand on his sho

Eliza smirks, and tilts her head at the vicar,“Not exactly, but I have knowledge of a lot of Gods from a lot of different pantheons. Call it a hobby.” He smiles, and nods, “I’m sorry, I really should go.” He nods and waves, ushering her to the door. She bows her head and leaves quickly, watching every shadow just in case it turns into Sansom. She climbs into the cab and sits between her men. Each of whom has a child in their lap. The driver looks unhappy about them not having seatbelts on, she huffs.“They’ve probably got better reaction times than your seatbelts, and we’re not going far. Just drive, please. We just had their father’s funeral.” He pales and nods, his loud, broad cockney accent filling the back of the cab.“Sorry, ma’am. It’s rules is all.” She nods, but ignores him, looking at her niece and nephew. Jessie’s almost asleep in Ash’s lap, but Danny’s now openly weeping, she rests a hand on his head. And he looks up at her, his eyes shining. Charlie

“Welcome all, I would like to thank you all for attending this service of remembrance for Benjamin Alden. He leaves behind his wife and two children, as well as you all. It was a sad day when I was informed of his passing, even though he had been ill for some time. I visited him in the hospital to give him communion and pray with him, and I was honoured to have been with him during that time.” Eliza does her best to keep a straight face and not look at Charlie. The vicar continues,“We begin with a prayer, then his sister-in-law Eliza is going to sing, um, ‘The Wellsong’.” He seems confused, but lots of the people present make quiet pleased noises, she takes a steadying breath, as he continues. “May God give to you and all whom you love his comfort and peace, his light and his joy, in this world and the next; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be upon you, and remain with you today and forever. Amen.”It was a good prayer, a sol

Charlie is talking to the vicar and Serena and Connor are moving the flowers around as they’re apparently too close together. Eliza doesn’t care, this funeral is going to look exactly how Charlie wants it to, no matter what. The vicar gives a sigh of relief at Eliza’s approach.“Good afternoon, I’m Lawrence Pitfield, I’m the vicar here.” She shakes his hand firmly at his introduction. He’s an old white man, balding and clean-shaven. He has thick glasses, which made his round grey eyes look huge. He had a long thin nose that his glasses keep sliding down. And full lips that are curved in a warm smile, he seems nice enough.“Eliza, sister to Charlie.” He blinks, looking between the two of them, “And the blonde over there is our other sister, Serena.” He looks over at Serena and then back at them. With a confused look. “Adoptive, for want of a better term.” He finally smiles and nods, understanding. “Not that it should matter, after all, you’re all brothers and sisters in

Charlie starts by sectioning Eliza’s hair, and tying the main central part up in a bun to keep it out of the way. She does three tight plaits either side of her head, going from her temple to the back of her head, then down the full length of her hair threading small golden metal rings throughout the length of the plaits. It looks incredible with her dark auburn hair.Once these six small plaits, which are called Goddess braids according to Charlie, are done Charlie undoes the bun on the top of her head and starts working on a bigger braid, it’s still complicated looking. She divides the hair into two sections and begins weaving them together taking about half of the hair from the outside of the right section and crossing it over to the left section, placing it on the inside of the left section of hair. And repeating to the other side. She calls this a fishtail braid, and Ash can see why. Charlie threads more golden rings in as she goes, finishing the bottom of the bra

She closes the bedroom door and wanders over. He helps her out of her clothes, and she sits on the edge of the bed so he can start getting her pants and jumpsuit on, before rolling up the legs to do her boots. He gets her to stand up and pulls up the pants, and jumpsuit to her waist, then sits her back down again to sort out the bra. She has to help him as it’s a different style than her normal sort, but once the strap is around her neck she adjusts her breasts so they’re comfortable and he then takes the chain and clips it together in the middle of her back letting the excess dangle down her back. The way it rests across her back her phoenix tattoo almost looks like it’s perching on the chain. He clasps the halter neck of the jumpsuit at the back of her neck, and stands back to admire his woman. Gods, she looked fine. He bites his lip, and leans down to kiss her forehead.“You look incredible, Honey.” She smirks, and goes to her bag, pulling out a bag of make-u
