"Jasmine?" I heard the familiar voice call, and I froze. It is what I have been trying to avoid. Now it has become inevitable. I glanced at my mom, begging her with my eyes not to sell me out, while I was trying to hatch an escape plan. If I walked fast enough, I could run away through the back door before he got inside.
"Don’t even think of it, Jaz. I know that you are in there and that you are already plotting an escape plan." The voice boomed from outside; it was getting closer, and if I wanted to escape, I needed to do it now.
"Dad," I called out as I saw him. "Fancy seeing you here." I was inching back little by little so I could escape.
"I should be telling that to you. This is my house, and I have every right to be here. Now, you young lady, what are you doing here? And where are you going all dressed up like this?" He said, eyeing my outfit from head to toe.
"I just want to go out and relax; you know that leading a pack isn’t as easy as it seems. I have always wondered how you managed to make it seem so effortless. Indeed, I still have a lot to learn from you." I praise him, trying to boost his ego and eventually make him forget what he just saw. But it was easier said than done, he saw through my deceit.
"I know what you are trying to do, Jaz, and it is not working. I know you very well; you wouldn’t just dress up on a Sunday evening if you didn’t have somewhere important to be." He shared a look with my mom, and he smiled knowingly. "So, you have met your mate, eh?" he teased, giving me a sly look.
"Mom!" I groaned, looking at her.
"I didn’t say anything." She replied, raising her hands in surrender. But I didn’t look convinced. "I promise, I didn’t say anything."
"Your mother is right; she didn't say anything." My dad interrupted, coming to his mate's rescue. He strolled to where she was and came to stand beside her, giving her a kiss on her forehead, and I swooned. When I was younger, their open display of affection usually bugged me, but now I was unfazed. Besides, werewolves are known to be very touchy.
My mom looked at him like he was the center of her whole world. No words were spoken, but a lot was going on between them. It was times like this that I always felt like I was interrupting something. I cleared my throat to remind them of my presence, and my dad looked at me smiling.
"Your mother didn’t say a word. I mean, it is pretty obvious; you would make such an effort if you weren’t trying to impress someone, and who more can you impress than your partner?"
"Alright, you caught me. Bye, parents," I said, and I attempted to run past them.
"Hold on right there, young lady. Where are you rushing to?" I groaned internally, a low rumble rising in my chest. I mean, it's pretty obvious.
"Out. I have a date, remember? And I am already five minutes late." I said, glancing at the wrist watch I had snagged from my mom. I made a move again, but his voice stopped me in my tracks.
"Hold on. Why the hurry? Let him come over here and pick you up. We will love to get to know him, right?" He said, looking at his mate for backup, and she nodded, supporting him.
"Yes, invite him here; let us get to see him at least before we set a date so we can all get to know him better." My mom added, and this time a groan came out of me. It was exactly what I was trying to avoid. It is just a matter of time before the whole pack finds out.
I brought out my phone and placed a call to him, suddenly grateful that he had insisted on inputting his number into mine. He picked up on the first ring, and his hypnotic voice immediately grabbed me. "Jasmine," he called out, slightly out of breath, and I swooned, closing my eyes to feel his voice.
But the eyes piercing through my skin wouldn’t allow me to enjoy the moment, so I shook my head, clearing off the images. "Hey Vincent, there is a slight change of plan." My ears picked up the sound of tires rolling on the dirt, and it stopped.
"Why, what happened? Does that mean you wouldn’t be able to make it again? He asked in a panicked voice.
"Calm down. I will still be able to make it, but you will have to come pick me up from my dad’s place. I believe you know the place, yeah?" There was a slight pause and then a little "yes." I didn’t need anyone to tell me that his heart was beating like crazy. "Just relax; it is nothing serious. They found out we were mates, and they just want to get to know you."
"Alright, I am on my way." And the line became static as he cut the call.
I turned to the parents and asked, "Satisfied." And they both nodded, smiling very weirdly.
"Dad, please don’t scare him away. He is just a warrior." I plead, trying to avoid any drama.
He gasped dramatically, "What do you take me for? I wouldn’t do anything to him." But I couldn’t take him seriously while he was smiling so much that his dimples were showing. I looked at him pointedly "I promise, I wouldn’t do anything you don’t like to him." He reassured me, and I decided to leave it be.
Satisfied with his promise, I went to join them on the sofa, occasionally glancing at the wall clock. And true to his words, in two minutes I heard the doorbell ring, and I was jumping out of the chair to answer the door.
I opened the door, and there the man of my dream stood, holding a box of what I perceived to be chocolate. "I didn’t take you to be a flower kind of girl, so I brought you chocolate. I mean, you can never go wrong with chocolate, right?" he asked with a charming smile, and I swooned.
He was wrong; I was actually a flower kind of girl, but of course, I also love chocolate, so he was actually right. You can’t go wrong with chocolate. I accepted the box of chocolate with a smile. "Come in, please." I said as I ushered him inside the house.
"Good day, Alpha, Luna." He greeted me as soon as he saw my parents. They were still grinning, and I had to send a reminder on the mind link that they promised to behave.
I ushered him to go closer to where they were sitting,
"Dad, mom, meet Vincent. My mate." I said, gesturing to the man beside me. "Vincent, meet my parents; you must already be familiar with them."
"It is an honor to be in your home." He said he was shaking my dad’s hand. My mom, ever the hugger, enveloped him in a warm hug.
"It is nice to meet you, Vincent; welcome to our humble home." My mom said.
My dad cleared his throat and my mom released him. "I am aware that you are taking her out on a date, so I can’t keep you here for a long time. We will set a later date where we can all meet and get to know one another. You may go."
"Thank you, sir." Vincent replied.
"And bring her back on time." My dad called out, and Vincent nodded as we hurried out. I sent a grateful message to my dad; he really behaved well and didn’t hold us up for too long.
"Where is the car?" I had to ask when I looked around and saw that there were no traces of the four-wheel drive.
"This is the car." He was gesturing to a place, and I followed the direction of his hand until it landed on a bicycle. Disappointment washed over me like cold water. Is this a joke?
"I rode the bicycle here; the place isn’t far from the pack, and unfortunately, I don’t own a car yet. So, this bicycle should take us. Don't worry, it is strong and sturdy and can carry us comfortably." He said, tapping the seats of the bicycle.
I watched as he talked, the smile evident in his eyes, and I didn’t want to wipe that away, so I decided to get on it. I took the helmet, carefully putting it on so as not to ruin my mother’s work, and got on the bicycle, holding him tight as he cycled away from the pack. I was beginning to loosen up as we progressed in the journey, and I was now enjoying it. The breeze was hitting us from all directions and making a mess of my hair, but thankfully, the helmet was able to control that for a bit.
"Are you okay there?" he shouted against the wind.
"Yes," I hollered back. "I am enjoying the ride!"
We were cycling across town, and I was currently loving every bit of it; it is a good experience to feel the wind in your face. Our first stop was at a local store in town, and he found a good spot and packed. I had a hard time getting down from the bicycle because of my dress, but I was able to make it work, and I got down. I glanced around the place; I don't really travel to this part of town, and I was slightly out of place. I was the only one wearing a fancy dress; I even had makeup on. Everyone was wearing something simple, and some even had flip flops on. I hope this isn't where we are going on our date, because I think Vincent would be the first mate to be walked out on while on a date. The only saving grace was that it was dark. I swore—in my mind, of course. He should have informed me of the venue before inviting me out. Note to self: always ask for the venue before going on a date. A hand on my helmet disrupted my thought; I had even forgotten I had it on. I stood still wh
After the kiss, I was pretty much awake, and I sat up while we continued eating and watching the movie. At some point, I became totally invested in the movie. And it was all his fault. Some couples began to leave even before the movie ended, and finally, around 12 a.m., the movie finally came to a close. When I looked at all the food we brought, we had already cleared the plates—no surprise there. Werewolves are known to be hearty eaters. We lay on the mat for a while, watching the moon as it shone down on us. I was in his arms, and I have never felt so safe and secured. I was content to be like this forever. No work, no Alpha position—just me and my mate, enjoying the moment. But like all good things, it must come to an end, and so does this one. I felt a kiss on my forehead, and I smiled, closing my eyes as I savored this feeling between us. "We have to go now, love, or everyone would be wondering where their Alpha went to." He spoke softly into my ears so he wouldn't spook me.I
I was finding it difficult to concentrate on my work, despite the amazing time I had with my mate, but a thought kept plaguing my mind. I had offended my brother greatly, and I needed to apologize before it was too late.I must admit, I was guilty of everything he was accusing me of. I didn’t even think to tell him, even though I knew he would be happy for me. I think deep down in my mind, I was afraid to tell him, because he was yet to get a mate and I didn’t want him to feel bad. Liam only knew of my mate because he was with me when I first met him. With these thoughts plaguing my mind, I could only manage to finish a little portion of my work. The guilt was overwhelming me, and I needed to do something fast. With heavy steps, I made my way upstairs to his room. While I was staying in the Alpha’s quarter, he was in the room above mine. I could remember when I first got to the position and was asked to change rooms. I felt so guilty because I would be leaving him for a better place.
Vincent and I had gradually begun to get to know each other better. Honestly, Vincent was just the sweetest. No matter how early I wake up, I always wake up to a good morning text. He was a big romantic and had no problem letting everyone know that he was in love.We have been talking regularly now, although we haven't gone on any dates since the last one. But I kept on bumping into him at every stop. He had made it his mission to always see me. Whenever we were at the gym, he would always try to bump shoulders with me and just be around my circle. It was safe to say that he was madly in love with me. and I think I was beginning to love him.Another special charm of his was his habit of sending me the corniest pickup line. It doesn’t matter what time of the day it is; he will always send one, and they are such a mood booster for me. It was on such an occasion that Liam found me. I was in my office, sitting on my desk, and swinging my legs as a child. He had messaged me that he got the
I sat down beside my dad, feeling safe and secure as I became enveloped by his scent."I don't think it is wise to keep standing there like a soldier, honey. Go sit down beside your mate or on any free sofa. Make yourself comfortable; we wouldn't eat you." My mom said to Vincent as she saw that he was still standing. He nodded and was already heading to the nearest chair before my dad decided to ruin everything. "I don't know about you, but he may just be dinner." Vincent froze momentarily; his foot was left hanging in the air as he was about to take a step forward. It was a struggle to control my laughter when I looked at him. His eyes were darting from left to right, and beads of sweat started forming on his forehead. "Richard." My mom warned just as she chucked a pillow at his head, which he dodged effortlessly, of course. "Don't scare him into running away. He is our daughter's mate.""It is a harmless joke, baby; I mean, it is a very obvious joke. Isn't that right, Vincent?""Uh.
We stayed with my parents till later in the day. We were pretty much resting in the living room when my family decided that it was going to be "operation embarrass the hell out of Jasmine." They decided to tell my mate every embarrassing thing I had ever done as a teenager, and I have done a lot.I didn’t mind, though. I think they were trying to desensitize him to the fact that even though I am an alpha, I still make mistakes and am not 100% perfect. It will be better if he sees me as a partner and not his superior. We left home that day with filled stomachs and happy faces. Although we were a bit tipsy, we dragged our drunken asses back home, but I didn’t go straight back to my room. We took a decoy and went towards the pack’s lake. I suddenly had an idea to run in our wolf form, and he agreed. We were hand-in-hand as we walked the bushy part. The forest was obviously alive by that time, as evident from the numerous sounds we were hearing. The bugs were not quiet, and neither were t
We were a panting mess as we came down from our high. That was easily one of the best things I have ever experienced in my life. I was smiling so much that my cheeks were beginning to hurt. "Did you..." I trailed off, hoping he would get what I was trying to say. He was smiling, his pearly whites still visible in the dim light. "You know... did you?" I gestured, hoping he understood what I was saying. I don't know if it was appropriate to ask him that question."Yes Jasmine. I came. You can say it out, you know." I flushed from my roots, ducking my head into his chest. Why was I behaving like a virgin?"Maybe because you are actually one." Smart ass Maya replied, and I rolled my eyes—how convenient that she chose to appear now. I threw her to the bottom of my mind and tried to focus on my mate.I looked down, and I could see that there was a small wet patch on his crotch area. He actually came. I felt a little pride in the fact that I could actually make a man cum without necessarily
They all gathered in my sitting room, taking up all the space in the apartment. I managed to find a spot beside my aunt Jessi, and I sat there. "So what are your plans for today?" She asked me as I sat down.I shook my head in the negative. I had nothing planned out for the day; I was just going to wait for the ceremony: "Are you ready to be mated?" My mom asked me, the excitement evident in her voice. From the way she was very excited, people will begin to think she was the one to be mated."I think I am. It has been long overdue," although not as long as my parents', or so I heard. Their relationship started out very rocky, and it is still a sore subject to talk about."We came hearing gifts for the newly to be mates." My uncle said before he handled me a little box."Thanks uncle." I kept it on the table, promising to check it out after they had gone.He stood up, towering over us. "I think I will have to take my leave now and leave you all to your girls' talk." He patted my shoul
