‘Dear Jaycob Preston,

We are delighted to inform you that you have been accepted into Massachusetts Institute of Technology…’

I got in? A smile spread across my face as I read the letter. Bolting down the stairs, I ran into the living room.

“I got in!” I shouted as my mother and father both jumped to their feet.

My mother snatched the letter from my hand, reading it out loud as my father looked over her shoulder.

“Honey, this is great! But Massachusetts? It’s so far,” she said, her face falling.

“I know Mom, but it’s the best school for what I want to do,” I replied, taking the letter back from her.

“I thought you wanted to be a doctor? What happened to that?” my father asked, his hand on my shoulder.

“I…changed my mind,” I said, looking back down at the paper, “I got a full scholarship. It will be great.”

“Yes, and I’m so proud of you. It’s just that, I’m going to miss you,” my mother said, her eyes watering.
