Lyra's POV

The silence between us stretched out long and full, the kind that did not feel empty but rather like it was holding something important inside it, waiting for one of us to finally reach in and pull it out.

Thorian was still looking at me and for once he was not pulling back. He was just standing there, letting me see him, really see him, in a way he had not allowed before. And what I saw made something in my chest pull tight and tender all at once.

He looked tired.

  • Her Three Alphas   Chapter 59

Lyra's POVWe crossed the Obsidian border at dawn. Not hidden this time. Not slipping through gaps in patrol rotations or moving through shadows trying to leave no trace. This time we walked through the border openly, four people moving with deliberate purpose, and I felt the difference between this approach and the last one in every line of my body.Last time we had come in fear and desperation. This time I was done being afraid. The border guards saw us coming and the alarm went up immediately, voices calling and boots hitting the ground and the machinery of a pack responding to an incursion grinding into motion. But we were already past the outer line and moving toward the stronghold with a directness that seemed to catch Draven's people slightly off guard, like they had prepared for infiltration and received confrontation instead and were not entirely sure how to adjust.Thorian had counted on that.By the time we reached the stronghold courtyard Draven was already there, standing

  • Her Three Alphas   Chapter 58

Lyra's POVWe made it back to Moonveil by midday. The pack responded the way packs did when their Alpha returned from something dangerous, a collective exhale of relief moving through the grounds before anyone even consciously registered that we were back. Guards straightened. Faces appeared at windows. The captain met us at the border with his expression doing the complicated thing it did when he was deeply relieved and deeply displeased simultaneously and did not quite know which one to lead with.He settled on neither and simply fell into step beside Thorian and began his report in a low urgent voice while I walked beside them and listened and tried to process the strange doubled feeling of being home and knowing that home was not yet safe.Because Draven was not done.I knew that with the same bone deep certainty that I had known Thorian was coming for me in that cell. Draven had sent professional mercenaries across pack borders and held an Alpha's mate in his stronghold for four

  • Her Three Alphas   Chapter 57

Lyra's POVRen stared at me with the tray still in his hands and his eyes moving rapidly between my face and the three men standing behind me and the particular quality of his expression was exactly what I had hoped it would be. Not hardened refusal. Not the blank obedience of someone who had been in service too long to feel anything about it. Just a young person caught between two things and not yet certain which one weighed more.I had four days of careful kindness on my side.I was going to use every bit of it."I know this is not what you expected this morning," I said, keeping my voice low and even. "And I am not going to pretend that what I am asking you is a small thing because it is not." I held his gaze directly. "But I need you to listen to me before you make any decision. Can you do that?"He swallowed. His eyes went to Thorian briefly, who to his considerable credit was standing completely still and projecting nothing threatening, just presence and patience, which I had sp

  • Her Three Alphas   Chapter 56

Lyra's POVI did not let myself sleep that night. Not because I was too afraid, though fear was certainly present, sitting in the back of my chest like a small cold stone that I kept pressing down every time it tried to rise. But because sleeping felt like surrendering time that I could not afford to surrender, and my mind was too alive with everything Draven had said and everything it might mean to quiet itself down even if I had wanted it to.Thorian slept eventually, or something close to it, his breathing deepening and slowing beside me while his hand stayed wrapped around mine with a grip that did not loosen even in sleep. Soren drifted off against the opposite wall with his arms folded and his head bowed, still upright, still composed even unconscious. Vaelin lasted the longest, his eyes open in the dark across the cell, and for a while it was just the two of us awake in the quiet with the torch burning low and the sounds of the stronghold settling into its nighttime rhythms abo

  • Her Three Alphas   Chapter 55

Thorian's POVThere were too many of them.I made the calculation in the space of a second, the way I had been trained to make calculations under pressure, fast and clean and without the luxury of hesitation. Twelve guards in the corridor ahead, more sounds coming from the stairwell to the left, the door behind us already cut off. The numbers were wrong and the position was wrong and every tactical instinct I had was telling me the same thing simultaneously. We were not getting out of here tonight. Not through force."Fall back," I said quietly, pushing Lyra behind me and stepping forward to meet the first wave.Vaelin was already moving, fluid and explosive, taking the nearest guard down with an efficiency that would have been impressive under any other circumstances. Soren moved to cover our left flank, his expression closed off and focused on the way it got when he had set aside everything that was not immediately relevant to survival. We fought. Not strategically. Not with the cle

  • Her Three Alphas   Chapter 54

Lyra's POVDraven had not told me everything.I could feel the gaps in what he said the way you felt missing steps in the dark, that sudden lurch of absence where something solid should have been. He talked around the edges of whatever the full truth was, circling it with careful words and measured pauses, giving me enough to keep me listening without giving me enough to actually understand. He knew something about my mother. That much was clear. Every time the conversation moved close to that particular point something shifted in his expression, a tightening around the eyes, a slight careful quality that told me he was choosing words rather than simply speaking them.I had filed all of it away and said very little in return. That was the plan I had built in the hours between his first visit and his second. Let him talk. Let him believe I was cooperative and absorbing everything he offered and gradually softening toward whatever arrangement he had in mind. Give him nothing that confir

  • Her Three Alphas   Chapter 19

Lyra's POVI rested comfortably on his chest, my ear pressed against his heartbeat. His arms wrapped around me, holding me close as we laid together on the bed. The warmth of his body enveloped me, making me feel safe and protected. My hand absently played with the buttons on his shirt, my fingers

Lyra's POVI slowly opened my eyes, a searing pain shoots through my body, making her wince. I tried to move, but a sharp stinging sensation in my limbs made me gasp. I met with an eerie silence, and the darkness seemed to press in around me. Groggily, I tried to remember where I was and what hap

  • Her Three Alphas   Chapter 16

Lyra's POV I gazed at my reflection in the mirror, I couldn't help but notice the transformation. My muscles were toned, my posture confident, and my eyes shone with a newfound determination. "This feels different. It's almost like I'm in another person's body," I whispered to myself in disbelie

  • Her Three Alphas   Chapter 13

Lyra's POVI didn't react as I expected, and he remained oddly quiet even after the revelation of my plans. Was he doubting me? I wanted to know what he was thinking? My eyes locked on his face with a determined glint in her gaze.Perhaps I should explain further. "I've been thinking a lot about my
