Thorian's POV

We stayed until the sun went down.

Longer than I had planned. But watching Lyra move through that community, watching her talk to people who carried the same light she carried and see recognition move through her face each time, I could not bring myself to be the one to say it was time to leave.

She deserved this.

She deserved every minute of it and I was going to stand here as long as she needed.

Brennan had turned out to be surprisingly good company. Straightforward and dry-humo

Lyra's POV"You are doing it again."I looked up from the window. Thorian was leaning against the doorframe with his arms folded and that look on his face, the one that meant he had been watching me for longer than he was going to admit."Doing what?" I said."Standing at that window like the answer to something is out there in the trees.""Maybe it is.""It is not," he said, crossing the room. "I have checked."He stopped behind me and his hands came to my shoulders, warm and certain, and I felt the familiar pull of him move through me from that simple contact alone. That was the thing about Thorian that nobody warned you about. It was never the grand moments that undid you. It was this. His hands on your shoulders at eight in the morning like you were the most natural thing in the world for him to reach for."Cole's visit is still sitting with you," he said. Not a question."A little," I admitted. "But that is not what I was thinking about.""What were you thinking about?"I turned

Thorian's POVZara was not leaving. That was established within approximately ninety seconds of Vaelin's declaration, during which it became clear that Zara had mentioned possibly returning to collect more of her belongings from wherever she had been living before and Vaelin had heard the word leaving and processed nothing after it.She stood in the middle of the sitting room with her arms folded and her expression carrying the particular quality it got when Vaelin was being dramatic, which was a look I was beginning to recognize with some frequency."I said I might need to go back for my things," she said. "That is not the same as leaving.""You said leaving," Vaelin said."I said going back," she said. "Those are different sentences.""They sound the same.""They do not sound the same at all."Lyra pressed her hand over her mouth beside me.I kept my expression completely neutral with some effort.Soren appeared from the direction of the hospital wing with Cole beside him, both of t

  • Her Three Alphas   Chapter 78

Lyra's POVThree weeks after the mountain visit, Cole came to Moonveil. He arrived on a Tuesday morning with Brennan beside him and a bag that suggested he intended to stay longer than a day but shorter than forever, which felt about right for where we were. I watched him from the upstairs window as the gates opened and he walked through and looked up at the pack house with those dark steady eyes of his and I felt Nyssa stir inside me with that recognition she always had around him now, that pull toward something old and familiar that she trusted before I did.I went downstairs.Thorian was already at the entrance. He had not told me he was going to be there and he had not made a production of it. He was simply standing at the door when I came down, relaxed and unhurried, like greeting my father was something he had always planned to do on a Tuesday morning and had not thought to mention it.I looked at him.He looked at me. "What?""Nothing," I said.He smiled. That private one. "Go

Straightforward and dry-humored in a way that reminded me somewhat of Soren, and once he had established that I was serious about Lyra and not merely performing seriousness, he had relaxed into a directness that I appreciated."She is extraordinary," he said at one point, watching her across the room."Yes," I said simply."Cole has been terrified of this moment for two years," he said. "From the moment we knew where she was and who she had become." He glanced at me. "You were part of what terrified him."I looked at him.

  • Her Three Alphas   Chapter 76

Lyra's POVThe warning turned out to be nothing.Three of Thorian's own scouts who had followed us out of concern for my safety and had not thought to announce themselves. Thorian spoke to them briefly, quietly, and sent them back to Moonveil with a look on his face that suggested a more detailed conversation was coming later. And just like that the tension dissolved.Cole watched the whole thing from where he stood beside me, his silver light fading back beneath his skin the way mine did, and when it was over he looked at Thorian with an expression that was careful and assessing and underneath both of those things quietly impressed."He takes your safety seriously," Cole said."He takes everything seriously," I said. "It is one of his more exhausting qualities."Cole looked at me.And then something happened in his face that I was not prepared for. A smile. Slow and genuine and so completely familiar that it stopped my breath for a second because I had seen that smile before. I had s

  • Her Three Alphas   Chapter 75

Lyra's POVThree weeks passed. Not quietly. Nothing in Moonveil ever passed entirely quietly, there was always something, a patrol report or a pack dispute or a training injury finding its way to Soren's hospital wing or a border matter requiring Thorian's attention. The pack was alive and living and complicated in the way that all real things were complicated and I was part of it now, genuinely and completely, in a way that still caught me off guard sometimes when I was not paying attention.Luna.I was still learning what that meant in practice. Not the title or the ceremony or the formal aspects of it, those were straightforward enough in their way. But the texture of it. The daily reality of being the woman that an entire community looked to alongside Thorian, the specific weight of that responsibility sitting on my shoulders not as a burden but as something chosen and therefore completely different in how it felt to carry.I liked it.That still surprises me sometimes. That I lik

Lyra's POVI had barely made it back to my room and closed the door behind me before I leaned against it and let out a long slow breath.Soren's words were still moving through me, warm and quiet and certain, settling into every corner of my chest like they intended to stay there permanently. Lyra's POVNobody moved. The entire pack stood around that ring in complete silence, every face turned toward me, every breath held, waiting. Lyra's POVI was still in the garden when I heard footsteps approaching along the path.I already knew it was Soren before I even looked up. Lyra's POVThe ceremony was held three days later. Not a large gathering. Not the kind of event that required the whole pack to assemble and watch.
