Ava’s POV

"I think you should wear black instead, it fits." She said.

"Really?" I spared her a glance.

"What? It is a good idea, you know." Renee shrugged her shoulders.

“Okay then.” I nodded my head.

“I’m sorry, Ava. But what’s going on? I don’t quite understand and while I’ve been waiting for you to explain, I’m not sure you’ve understood that I’m here because I need an explanation from you.” Renee said.

I sighed and nibbled on my lower lip. It wasn’t that I didn’t understand why she was here but I had been hoping that she wouldn’t bug me with questions. It’s why I decided that I wanted to leave the apartment instead of staying here and subjecting myself to questions that will surely come.

Before I could open my mouth, Valerie walked in. She took one look at Renee and I and she figured that something wasn’t right—she had a knack for knowing these kinds of things.

“So what am I missing or better still, what have I missed?” She asked, looking back and forth between Renee and

Ava’s POV“Why do I feel like you’re about to dump a load of advice on me, Lukan?” I asked. “Well, not particularly, but I have a couple of things to say and it’s pertaining to what you’ve just told me.” He said. The thing with Lukan is that there was no inbetween for him most times. So whatever was going to come out of his mouth was going to either be refreshing or hurt like a motherfucker, it was as simple as that and over time, I’ve gotten used to it. “Okay, fine. Tell me what it is.” I shrugged, mentally preparing myself for it. “You may not have acknowledged it but I’m quite certain that a part of you already knew that their promiscuous actions would hit close to home. I mean, if you saw Jake with Emily on the day of your engagement ceremony, do you think they wouldn’t have done worse before that? It doesn’t work like that, Ava.” Lukan began. I didn’t like where this was heading. It was making me feel self-conscious and I hated that feeling. “So what are you trying to say

Ava’s POV“I heard what happened at your apartment,” Lukan began, taking a sip from the glass of champagne in his hand. “What the—“ “Let’s go somewhere private and talk, Ava. There’s a lot of eyes on us and we don’t want the wrong person to eavesdrop on our conversations.” Lukan cut me gently as he guided me past the French doors and towards the balcony. The moon cast a silver glow over the landscape, its gentle light illuminating the night with a soft, ethereal radiance. In a tranquil garden below, the sound of a small fountain created a soothing melody, its gentle burble weaving in and out of the crickets' chirping.I figured that Renee had told him about what happened during my interview with the host because that was the only time I’ve seen them together for more than a few seconds throughout the night. “I hope you’re not angry with her, Ava? It’s your story to tell after all.” Lukan said as we stood on the balcony, away from the merriment happening inside. “Oh, no. Not at a

Ava’s POVThe day had started horribly for me and as it progressed, it got worse. Renee and Valerie had convinced me to take a short nap so I would feel better after the emotionally disturbing encounter I had with the Wayland brothers earlier on and I duly obliged. I took their advice and I woke up with swollen feet, a throbbing back, and the kind of mood that made me want to stay curled in bed forever but I knew that I couldn’t do that. I already made a commitment and I had to fulfil the obligation and bow out like I wanted to.The baby inside me kicked restlessly as if echoing my frustration, and to make matters worse, I’d spilled tea on the one dress I thought I could still fit into.I should’ve taken Lukan’s advice and gone shopping but I didn’t and my friends didn’t even bother telling me that I’d gained a couple of more pounds and I wondered if it was because they were worried about what my response would be or if they just didn’t want to say anything. I eventually found the

Ava’s POV“Ava, what happened at the door? Did they say something to you?” Renee asked.“If they did, you need to let us know so we can devise a plan to protect you from them and send them away for good. Your cousin would hate for anything to happen to you and if we don’t tell him if something is wrong, he’s going to be pissed.” Valerie added. “Have you ever been in a spot where you know something is bad for you, like really bad, but you’ve seen signs of change and you’re inclined to give it a second chance and when you eventually do, you end up realizing that you were right from the start. Because what is bad for you will always be bad, no matter how much rebranding it goes through? That’s where I am right now and I can’t help but curse myself for not trusting my gut and listening to my heart instead.”“So this has to do with something they did to you last night, right?” Renee asked. “I used to have an assistant when I was engaged to them, you know? I was going to be the Luna of th

Ava’s POV“I love you, Ava. We love you.” He said. “Don’t say that again! Don’t say you love me because you clearly don't!" I said, yelling. What else haven’t they told me? If they could keep this from me, what else were they hiding? And the main question was if I wanted to hear it and if I would be able to survive if I did. It seemed what I knew about them and what they did to me was only the surface. There was so much buried beneath that I was scared to delve deeper before I ruined what was left of my heart and I wasn’t sure I had the stomach for that right now. "I messed up, I know—we know and we want to mend things between us, Ava. We are meant to be together and we just want to prove that to you, just give us a second chance. Please, Ava. Please give us a second chance, that’s all we want and I know that’s why you asked us to come in the first place." He said while holding my hands. He had a sad look on his face, he was clearly in emotional distress and if it weren’t for the
