James’s POV

After Mike went to deliver the gift, he wasn't able to figure out more, but we had the same suspicion. Something was wrong with her, and what we both had in common was that we didn't know how severe the problem was.

Today marked the first day at work as well, but I couldn't help but worry.

“All her medical reports are sealed off and no one can have access to them except the doctor and her. Finding out if she's okay might take a long while,” Mike reported while walking me to my car.

“It's still fine. Perhaps it's too sensitive and with people like Ivana around, she'd always be on her toes over maximum security over anything.”

“She's going to be resuming, right?” He raised a brow.

“Definitely,” I opened my car. “Except she'll be working as a personal assistant, now.”

My reply seemed to take him aback, because until I shut the door, he hadn't said a thing.

“For proximity?” He bent down so that we could be on the same eye level.

“For close monitoring. Peter would still be aro

Ethan's POV Her line disconnected before I could say another word to her. Stealing one more glance in the direction where I saw Ava, I sighed and hit the accelerator. Thankfully, I brought the envelope with me so I drove directly to Layla's apartment.“Open up, Layla. It's Ethan.” I left a voice message while I was parked in my car.“Did you bring it?” Her voice was a hushed whisper when she ran towards me in the hallway “I did.”“Good. Please give it to her. I can't explain everything to you right now, but please—”“Relax, Layla. Let me handle this, okay?”I held her gaze long enough until she took a deep breath and nodded. I glanced at the door while stroking her arm lightly to reassure her before meeting her cousin.“Alright. Let's get going before she suspects something.”“Oh yeah,” I chuckled. “If you've looked this way the whole time, she must be thinking hell is about to break loose and who knows? You might be bringing the devil in with you,” I teased, making her grin.I smi

Ethan's POV It was more than ten minutes and I still hadn't recovered from the shock of all Layla had told me. I'd have easily assumed that part of them was a lie, but this involved Ivana and Ava which means the only thing possible was more schemes I knew nothing about.“Here, take it,” Layla offered me a glass of water when we got to her apartment. She sank into the couch next to me and slowly laid the envelope on the table in front of us.“Thanks.”“I don't want to give it to her,” she sighed after a long stretch of silence. “I don't want to have anything to do with Ivana’s schemes, but… I can't. I can't just back away.”“You can, though.”She shot me a gloomy smile.“I can't,” Her voice was quieter now and her eyes, teary. What in the world could Ivana have possibly done to her to make her look this helpless?“If that's the case, I'd really love to send the envelope to your—”“No you can't! Do you know what you're asking?!” Her voice was a mix of concern and frustration. “Can yo

Ethan's POV “What plans do you have now, boss?” Layla sounded worried over the phone. “Are you just going to let everything go?”“I'll figure something out, and thanks for checking in. If something big comes up tomorrow, you sure will be in a better position,” I smiled, not that I was sure what tomorrow was, but because even in my chaos, there were people who expected more from me.“I'll be looking forward to it, then. I have to go now. Take care.”The line went dead, and Richard raised a brow sarcastically.“It's not what you think,Richard and don't even try to mention it.”He just shrugged like the most innocent man on the planet.“Even if it's not what it looks like, it still wouldn't be wrong. Ava is gone, Ivana is trash, you could finally use some piece of happiness.”“I don't want it thank you,” I shot back, walking to my room.He didn’t seem ready to give up though, because when I got back from changing into a loose outfit, he was still sitting on the couch, wearing a smirk.“

Ivana’s POV I glance at Norman, sending him a very satisfied grin. “These are perfect, Norman” I told him, taking a close look at every picture he managed to get. “They're just as elaborate as I want them to be,” I trace the small spaces between my dear sister and her Knight in shining armour. I had to admit. I didn't know she was a fan of such public displays of affection.“I couldn't get in as you instructed, but I have a feeling they've grown really close and if these ones don't raise the bar high enough, I could get more,” she shrugged like it's a piece of cake. “Oh, Norman! This will do just great. But if I could get more of these inside Glint… you know, she'd be so defenceless when I have solid proof over her thing with James encroaching their workspace. You think it's a solid plan, yeah?”“I know it is, but I can't get in. I can't risk James seeing my face like you said,” now there's a familiar fear in his voice. “I think this will be over if he sees me around Glint. He'll

Ava’s POVWe both lay against each other’s bare bodies, panting heavily while searching each other’s eyes for something only we would know.“You are beautiful, Ava,” he muttered for the one millionth time tonight. I rolled my eyes, turning away from him. He was swift. He stopped me halfway and leaned over to press a kiss on my forehead. I reached for the covers with my weak hands and gave in to whatever his aim was.“I still didn’t see you feast on your favourite food, though,” I teased.“I can get between your legs again if that’s what you want, my lady.”Again. The British accent.Taking such chances when I wasn’t even sure I could walk properly yet wasn’t the best idea, so I shook my head.“Thank you, gentleman.”I watched him smile yet again before he began to tuck the strands of my hair behind my ear. He cupped my face and seemed to be weighing his words.“What do you want to know?” his voice was barely above a whisper.I adjusted myself to get a better look at him the moment wh

Ava's POV “The flower or the colour?” His eyes burned with interest. “I know you don't really like roses, but there's just something about it when I saw it,” he explained, shaking his head. “I couldn't let it go,” he admitted with an embarrassing smile. Now I love the rose even more. “I'm glad you didn't,” I sniffed the rose once more. “I love it.”“Then I'm glad you do. Tell me, do you really want to get dinner?”“Of course I do,” I shot him an ‘are you even supposed to be asking that’ look making his smile grow even wider.“Sad thing, I'm the only one in a haste to flip us over,” he teased, and I squeezed my dress.“Are you really going to do that now?” My tone dropped in frustration. All he needed to do was just arch his brow in a certain way, tuck his lips like those perfect men in the magazine and I'm fluid. For him. Didn't he know that?“I'm sorry, you just look prettier when you blush like that,” he began.Oh. He was doing this on purpose.“And I'm such a greedy man, you see
