LOGINAmbelyn did something terrible six years ago. She willingly gave her virginity to the college bully who had been tormenting her because she was forced in an arranged marriage by her family to marry the son of their biggest investor. Now stuck in a loveless marriage, where she watches her husband parade his first love and their second child hurting her and her miracle baby. Her husband hated her after divorcing she wasn't a virgin, which was the main requirement for their marriage and decided to show her how worthless she was. She swallows the insult for the sake of their child, but when her husband refuses to sign the papers for their son to get surgery or loses his life, and their second child bullying her and his elder brother and wishing for a new mummy, she decides to do what she never thought and divorce her husband, granting him slow custody of the second child, while she takes sole custody of the first child. The only issue was, she started working for the Heartless Cruel CEO who returned back home after six years abroad and it was the same man who pinned her against a library shelf and deflowered her. Would Ambelyn be able to survive working under the bully who once made her life a living hell, or would she be able to find her happily ever after in the hands of someone unexpected.

The scent of old books and polished wood filled Ambelyn's nose as she sat in the clean white waiting area outside her husband's office, waiting for him to finish screwing his mistress before he could attend to her.
The familiar aroma of the place transported her instantly back to another place, another time, where she was happy—six years ago in the college library where she made the happiest mistake of her life and the oner who made her turn out like this years later.
The memory crashed over her like a wave she couldn't fight against.
"Look what we have here," Niklaus's voice was low enough to avoid being overheated by the head librarian but was intense enough to send shivers down Amberlyn's back, as she was pinned against the bookshelf, her hands gripping tightly to her short skirt as she tried to maintain her composure, to avoid shattering into pieces, while his hands gripped her narrow waist tightly, coming closer even more, shortening the distance between them.
"Always hiding in the shadows, aren't you, little mouse?" His fingers had found a strand of her dark hair, twisting it between his fingers with deliberate slowness. The gentle tug had sent shivers down her spine, making her gasp despite herself.
The sound had seemed to please him, as he smirked while her face turned red from embarrassment.
"What's wrong? Cat got your tongue?"*
She should have pushed him away. Should have demanded he leave her alone. Instead, she'd stood frozen, caught between fear and arousal, and it was something that was becoming too strong for her to resist.
*"You know what I think?" he'd whispered, leaning closer until she could feel his breath against her ear.
"I think you like this. I think you like being cornered by the big bad wolf.
"Mrs. Blackwood? Mrs. Blackwood!"
The sudden call of her name jerked Ambelyn back to the present with jarring force. She blinked rapidly, disoriented, as the white hallway came back into focus. Linda, her husband's secretary, stood before her looking very irritated with her.
"I'm sorry," Ambelyn managed to croak out despite the dizziness, pressing her palm against her chest where her heart still hammered from the vivid memory.
"I was... lost in thought."
Linda's eyebrow arched with obvious disapproval. The woman had never liked her, though Ambelyn suspected it had less to do with her personally and more to do with the fact that LInda craved the position of being Mrs Blackwood herself.
"Mr. Blackwood will see you now," Linda announced immediately, with a kind of high pitched tone that did not do anything to hide the disdain dripping from her words.
"Though I should warn you, he's had a very busy afternoon."
The hidden meaning of her words hung heavy in the air between them.
Ambelyn's fingers tightened around the hospital forms she clutched—the papers that represented her son's only chance at survival.
She couldn't afford pride right now. Iniko needed this surgery, and she would endure whatever humiliation necessary to ensure he got it.
"Thank you," she said simply, rising from the plush leather chair.
Linda's smile was sharp as a blade.
"He's in his private office. You know the way."
Of course she did. How many times had she made this walk over the past five years? How many times had she swallowed her dignity and knocked on that door, begging for scraps of attention, of affection, of basic human decency from the man who was supposed to be her partner in life?
Ambelyn paused outside the heavy oak door, gathering what remained of her courage for her to face through whatever was behind that door.
Through the wood, she could hear muffled voices—her husband's tone, accompanied the familiar mistress voice and her stomach clenched with dread.
She knocked softly and waited.
"Come in."
Thomas's voice carried that particular note of irritation it always held when addressing her.
She turned the handle and stepped inside, immediately understanding why Linda had worn that triumphant smirk.
The scene before her was like something out of a fever dream.
Thomas sat behind his massive mahogany desk, his impeccable suit wrinkled and his dark hair mussed from hands moving through them.
But it was the woman perched on the edge of his desk who drew attention to herself, Veronica his first love, his true love, the mother of his second child.
Veronica didn't bother to look embarrassed. Instead, she smoothed down her dress, while she smirked slower like she had won a bet as she addressed me.
"Well, well. Look who finally decided to join us."
"Shameless," Veronica continued, sliding off the desk with feline grace.
"Standing out there for hours while we conducted our... business. Tell me, do you enjoy the show?"
Heat flooded Ambelyn's face, but she forced herself to meet Veronica's eyes as she spoke loud and clear, not longer hurt by the cheating her husband did, on the side.
"I came here for one reason only." She held up the hospital forms.
"Thomas, I need you to sign these. For Iniko."
Her husband finally looked at her then, and the cold indifference in his dark eyes was worse than outright hatred would have been.
Thomas Blackwood was a handsome man right from childhood, but there was nothing soft and warm on his face, nothing that pointed out that he saw her as anything less than trash and an inconvenience.
"I don't feel like it anymore," he said simply, straightening his tie with the kind of casual dismissal one might use to refuse a second cup of coffee.
The words hit her like a physical blow. "What?"
"You heard me." He leaned back in his leather chair, studying her with the same way, an scientist would look at an specimen.
"I've changed my mind about the surgery."
"Thomas, please." The desperation in her voice was clear, but Amberlyn was long gone past caring about her pride and dignity.
"This is our son's life we're talking about. Iniko needs this operation. Without it—"
"Without it, what?" Veronica interjected, her voice dripping with false concern. "Oh, that's right. The little bastard might die."
Chapter 27"That you're mean and scary and that's why Mummy left." Cassidy was still sprawled on the desk, but her voice had gone small. "She said her mummy told her that you were so awful that my mummy had to run away and now she's never coming back."The anger that surged through Klaus was white-hot and immediate. He forced it down, forced his voice to remain calm even though he wanted to storm into St. Augustine Academy and have words with both Jenny Martinez and her gossiping mother."Cassidy, look at me." He waited until she sat up, until those big brown eyes met his. "Jenny Martinez doesn't know what she's talking about. Neither does her mother. Your mummy left because she was sick—sick in a way that doctors couldn't fix. It had nothing to do with me being mean or scary. Do you understand?"Cassidy nodded slowly. "But am I sick too? Like Mummy? Is that why I'm different from the other kids?"Klaus pulled his daughter into his lap, holding her close. She was getting too big for t
Chapter 26Klaus leaned back in his executive chair, a slight smile playing at his lips as he typed his response to Ambelyn. There was something oddly satisfying about the exchange—her quick wit, the hint of humor that had been absent during their tense encounters earlier in the week. It felt like glimpsing the woman she used to be, the one who could match him word for word in their college debates."Who are you texting?"The question came from directly beside him, delivered in the imperious tone only a four-year-old could manage. Klaus glanced over to find Cassidy sprawled across his mahogany desk, her iPad abandoned beside her, her dark curls falling into her face as she peered at his phone with undisguised curiosity."Work," Klaus replied, setting his phone face-down on the desk. "I'm checking in with a new employee.""Liar." Cassidy sat up, crossing her arms in a gesture that was pure miniature adult. "You were smiling. You never smile at work stuff. You get that grumpy face." She
Chapter 25Ambelyn watched as several other children immediately swarmed him, excited to have their friend back. Iniko's face lit up as he greeted them, his earlier anxiety forgotten. She stood in the doorway for a moment longer, watching her son integrate back into the world of normal childhood. This was what she'd been fighting for—this normalcy, this joy, this chance for him to be more than just a patient in a hospital bed.The hallway was emptying as the first bell rang. Ambelyn forced herself to walk away from Iniko's classroom, even though every maternal instinct screamed at her to stay and watch over him.She was halfway to the exit when she heard a familiar, unwelcome voice."Well, well. Look who decided to show her face."Ambelyn turned slowly to find Veronica standing near the main office, looking polished and perfect in designer casual wear. Lucas stood beside her, a smaller, meaner version of his father, with the same cold eyes and petulant expression."Veronica," Ambelyn
Chapter 24Something in Ambelyn's tone must have conveyed the seriousness of the situation. Principal Holloway's expression softened slightly."Very well. I'll make the necessary updates to our system." She typed something into her computer. "Is there anything else?""Yes." Ambelyn pulled out a medical form. "Iniko has a heart condition that requires certain accommodations. He's not to participate in strenuous physical education activities. If he shows any signs of distress—shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, excessive fatigue—he needs to be placed in a quiet, private space immediately and I need to be called. His medications are time-sensitive and must be administered exactly on schedule."She handed over a schedule she'd typed up. "He's capable of taking his own medications, but I'd appreciate if the school nurse could supervise to ensure he doesn't miss a dose."Principal Holloway reviewed the medical information, her expression growing more concerned. "Ms. Moreau, given th
Chapter 23The mixing bowl Ambelyn had been holding clattered into the sink. She was across the kitchen in two strides, dropping to her knees in front of Iniko's chair and gripping his small shoulders."You listen to me," she said fiercely, waiting until his green eyes met hers. "You are worth everything. You are worth more than all the money in the world. You are precious and valuable and loved, and anyone who says otherwise is wrong. Do you understand me?"Tears spilled down Iniko's cheeks. "But my heart is broken. And we don't have enough money to fix it. And Mr. Thomas gave my new heart to Lucas instead, so maybe he's right—""No." Ambelyn's voice cracked. "No, baby, that's not—Thomas didn't give your heart to Lucas because you weren't worth it. He did it because he's a cruel, selfish man who doesn't understand what love means. That's his failing, not yours. Never, ever yours."She pulled Iniko into her arms, holding him while he cried against her shoulder. Five years old and alre
Chapter 22Ambelyn woke to the sensation of someone gently shaking her shoulder."Mama. Mama, wake up."She blinked her eyes open slowly, as she was disoriented for a moment by the unfamiliar ceiling and kept blinking, trying to remember where she was and if she had been kidnapped without her notice. Then everything came rushing back to her, as she processed it—Wednesday's apartment, the divorce, the new job that she had managed to get. She turned her head to find Iniko standing beside the bed, already fully dressed in his school uniform."Baby?" She pushed herself up on her elbows, squinting at the clock on the nightstand. Six-thirty in the morning. "What are you doing up so early?""I got ready for school," Iniko announced proudly. He did a little turn to show off his outfit—navy blue pants, white polo shirt, and the school sweater with the St. Augustine Academy crest embroidered on the chest. "See? I brushed my teeth and everything."Ambelyn sat up fully, her heart squeezing a
