Being a family of rogues meant we moved around a lot. It got annoying. Worst of all, my mother still insisted I attend school. She said it would help keep things as normal as possible. I disagreed with that but went because it made her happy. And when mom was happy, dad was happy. For rogues, we did pretty well, though. For one, we were all still together. That was rare for a rogue family. I contributed that to my father's job. He did IT work for a company that was all too happy to let him work from anywhere he wanted as long as he had access to a computer. Which made moving around easy, and no one ever questioned it. And even though my mom didn't need to work, she always seemed to find a place looking for a waitress, no matter where we went. It was her way of being part of our new community and helping to make us seem as normal as possible.

I hoped we would have been able to stay in one spot long enough to finish my last year of high school, but the kids from the pack nearby decided it was my year to be messed with. After a fight between a couple of the higher-ranking pack kids and myself, the school decided at least one of us needed to be used as an example. And because we didn't have as much influence as the pack, I was the one asked to leave the school. Forcing us to move and making this somewhat my fault. So here we were in this small little town in the heart of unclaimed territory. My father chose it for that simple reason. No pack wolves nearby for me to fight with and hopefully finish my last year of high school. And so far, he was right. In the week that we have been here, getting settled in and unpacked, I hadn't seen any pack wolves anywhere in the area. In fact, I hadn't seen any other wolves in the area at all. At least, that was until she walked into the lunch room. My first day at my new school and I was given a guide to show me around the school, which I always found annoying at every school. It wasn't hard to figure out where to go when you had been to as many schools as I had. And every school was the same, a kid that wished to be cool but was the epitome of geek always showed up. Usually, I could ditch the poor kid by the end of the first period and make my way to my classes on my own. But this time, the kid wouldn't leave me alone. All his friends seemed to join him, and by lunch, I had five guys sitting down at a table with me.

Ignoring them, I eat what the school here passed off as food, ignoring the debate on which star trek was better. And then a sweet scent of lavender and honey hit me. My wolf steered within me, and I had to fight to keep him under control. The humans here weren't used to seeing wolves and would most likely freak out if I lost control. The humans closer to pack lands seemed to have gotten used to seeing wolves and learned to stay out of their way as much as possible. They even learned not to get involved when it came to certain things. But this town, I would wager, would not know what to do. So keeping control was in my best interest for sure.

I didn't see her at first, but then she walked right past my table. Her scent attacked my senses, and it took everything in me to keep my wolf at bay. I was still relatively new to my wolf, having only had my first shift a few months ago. Wolfs had their first shifts at different times in their teens. The youngest I know of shifted at fifteen, and the oldest was a day shy of their twentieth birthday. So a day after my eighteenth birthday, I was happy. From the smell of her, she hadn't had her first shift yet, but that didn't stop my wolf from wanting her any less. She walked over to the table filled with all the football players and sat down. Why did she have to sit with them? They were just like every other jocks in every other school. It didn't matter if they were human or wolf. They all thought they owned the school and were hot shit. None of them paid her any attention. In fact, the guy she sat right next to seemed to move on his seat away from her. She looked sad as she picked at her food.

I couldn't help but watch her. She was breathtaking. Her porcelain white skin looked like it could be made of silk. I wanted to run my fingers along her cheek and see if she was as soft as she looked. Her hair lay in a wave of gold, making her bright blue eyes shine like the ocean water under a full moon. With the table of douchebags ignoring the goddess that sat right next to them, her attention turned from the table and looked around the room. It was almost as though she was looking for someone, maybe a friend, that would treat her better than the dick bags there at the table with her. But then our eyes met, and her search ended. Again I had to fight to keep my wolf under control. He fought to be free. To go over to her and show the little boys she set with how to speak and treat the magnificent being that she was. And then the prick beside her smacked her leg, making her jump. He said something to her, and she responded quickly. When he turned back to the other dicks at the table, she rubbed a hand over the spot he hit. A small growl rumbled through me, and I had to force myself to leave before I killed someone. My parents would not be able to fix that problem by simply moving to a new town.

I ditched the rest of my classes. I headed outside, going into the woods that lined the back side of the school. I walked in far enough that no one would see me. Then stripped down and shifted, running as fast and as hard as I could until I felt calm again. Then and only then did I head back to the school for my clothes. Her scent filled my nose again as I got closer to where I had left my clothes. Staying in my wolf form, I inched to the tree line finding her sitting on the bleachers by the football field. Crouching down, I lay there and watched as she pretended to pay attention to the football players running around the field while working on schoolwork. When she seemed to be done with that, she pulled out a rather large book and a pencil, and from where I was, it looked like she was drawing something. I hadn't noticed the pea-brained jocks had finished running after their ball until the same guy from earlier walked up beside her. He threw his bag down right next to her, almost hitting her with it, then leaned over, sneering at whatever she had been drawing. They exchanged a few words. I was too far away to pick up on what they said. But a moment later, he had his dirty hand wrapped around hers as they walked to the parking lot.

I got up and quickly ran over to my clothes. Pulling my clothes back on as quickly as possible before running to the parking lot and over to my motorcycle. It wasn't the nicest thing there was, but I had rebuilt it myself. Well, with the help of my father for funding, but all the manpower was my own. It needed a paint job for sure, but that was coming soon. I kicked it on and followed behind Dick Mcdickerson's car as he pulled out of the parking lot. I waited across the street from the drive-through he pulled into. Pulling back out behind them when he had gotten his order. I stayed far enough back that he wouldn't even notice me unless he was looking for someone that might be following him. A few minutes later, he pulled the car off to the side of the road. I pulled off so I could see them but still unless he was looking for someone following him, he wouldn't notice me. Her door opened, and I could see his arm shoot over the middle space of the front seat. I couldn't see entirely what was happening, but it looked like they were talking. Then his hand grabbed her jaw, pulling her to him. His lips pressed against hers, not moving until she returned the gesture. My wolf pushed forward, and I couldn't stop the growl from rumbling through my chest. The guy had a death wish. I watched as she climbed out of the car and stop as Asshat said something else to her, and she nodded at him before turning and heading inside. She looked to be rubbing her hand along her leg again.
