Chapter Eleven: Mrs Melanie

The breeze was hot, and everywhere seemed busy with one thing or another. Lagos is a place where one needs to work tirelessly and effortlessly if they want to survive. It's a survival of the fittest struggle. That afternoon, I left Melanie Company, thinking about what is actually wrong with everything around me: from missing documents to Albert's absence and my mother's panting on the phone. I drove home to my mother's house, still disturbed.

"Mother, what's wrong? You were panting on the phone, and I was so worried," I said to my mother.

My mother was attacked. Some assassins came over to take her money and searched for every document and everything they could find in the house. They were not only after the money; they were looking for something different, and from my mother's explanation, it seemed they were sent by someone out there. My thoughts went to nowhere but Albert. I knew him to be a gangster and a serious cultist.
