ELLA

For a minute, I froze at the touch before boldly spinning around to face the person who would be the death of me. Relief washed over me when I saw that it was Mom.

She gave me a disappointed look, and I lowered my eyes.

Mom wrapped an arm around me, bringing me close under her side, and began to lead me through the crowd. Her head, covered by the hood of her cloak, was lowered so no one could see her face.

"What if it had been the evil alpha that had found you?" Mom asked, upset.

ELLAMillie and I helped Mom out of the car. Mom's arms were draped around our shoulders while we supported her weight, as she was far too weak to walk on her own."This is my tiny cottage," Millie said, halting, forcing Mom and me to stop as well.We both looked ahead to see a charming white and pink home situated upon exquisitely trimmed grass that gave you an immediate urge to lie down and roll in it. Neatly manicured plants framed a narrow path toward the house and encircled the property."It is the most beautiful home I've ever seen," I said, completely bewitched."You don't have to pretend you like it. It's just a ramshackle old cottage that needs a lot of repairs," Millie responded humbly."She is telling the truth," I heard Mom tell Millie in a soft, genuine voice."Really?" Millie looked at me, surprised.I nodded with a wide smile, and she beamed back at me.We went inside. Unlike the vibrant exterior, the inside was painted entirely in white, and it didn't consist of one sp

ELLAA man in a white coat came into the room."What is that you're putting on her?" I asked in fright, blocking the end of the strange instrument he was attempting to place on Mom's chest after first placing the top part into his ears."I'm just checking for her heartbeat. It's something every doctor has to do when assessing their patient. Don't worry, it isn't harmful."I moved my hand away, clasping Mom's hand with both of mine, and watched worriedly as the doctor used another strange object on her."Is my mom going to be okay?" I asked, eager to know after he was through examining her.The doctor nodded, and I felt a great flood of relief wash over me. My throat no longer felt tightened with anxiety."What your mother has is the full moon illness."My attention was fully tuned to him to learn more about this illness."It happens when a werewolf refuses to let go of the death of a first mate to receive a second-chance mate, by refusing to move on and continuing to mourn them. Whate

Alpha Caspian"I, along with everyone in the Winterbourne Pack, was expecting to see our Alpha with his found fated mate on the day of her coronation, when she is crowned the Luna of this pack. Not the day after his mating season."A wolf with a mane of pure white hair and the powerful, confident bearing of someone who had seen many battles and triumphantly won them all waltzed into my home office, finding me buried in files behind my desk."Good evening, Uncle Vernon; it's always a pleasure to see you as well." I rose from my desk to greet him.My father was poisoned by wolfsbane when I was nine years old by an alpha he believed our pack could finally dwell in peace with. After that, Uncle Vernon raised me as one of his own sons, instead of his nephew. He'd also sought revenge against the murderer of my father, who was also secretly plotting to take over our pack next."I'm extremely happy that you've finally found the one who completes you, as your father and I did." Uncle Vernon pu

Mom asked, upset. My lips parted to apologize for disobeying her, but suddenly, she collapsed at the side of the road that led safely back into the woodland."Mom!" I dropped to my knees before her.I touched her hand as she lay on the ground, her eyes closed and unresponsive. Her face was slick with sweat; I hadn't noticed until now because of the hood hiding her face.Scared that I was losing her, I ran into the crowd."Please help me! My mother has fainted!" I shouted desperately.A young red-headed girl with freckles,

ELLAI brought Mom under a tall kapok tree. As she sat among the tree's massive roots, she broke into a fit of coughing. The first time she coughed like this, she said she had inhaled too much smoke; now I knew that wasn't the cause. She had only said so to keep me from worrying."I'm going to get you some water," I told Mom before running to a nearby river to fill a cylindrical container she had made from the bark of a birch tree. She drank half of the water I fetched when I gave it to her."Mom, are you sick?" I asked, apprehensive.I couldn't remember Mom ever being sick. I was the one who normally fell ill, and she would take care of me."I'm just catching a little flu, that's all," she said.I started noticing how pale her face was. She didn't look as strong as I'd always seen her; she looked weak. And I didn't believe for a second that this was as minor as she claimed."I don't want you to die, Mom," I began to cry.She playfully tapped a hand onto the bridge of my nose and smil

ELLAMy eyes slowly peeled open to find myself back in the cave, without a clue as to how I had gotten there."Mom." I sat up quickly, with an awful feeling in my stomach that she might not have survived my mating season last night.I spotted Mom standing up from a stone before a fire roasting a strange, scented meat.We both ran into each other's arms."I'm glad you're not dead," I said, hugging her tight."I'm glad I'm still able to live a little longer with you," she responded, also squeezing me between her arms."Did you manage to kill them?" I asked as we stopped hugging, relieved that both of us were still here and safe. While waiting for her reply, I also wanted to ask if I could see the corpse of my fated mate. I wanted to see the person who was supposed to be the one I was supposed to spend my entire life with, if only he wasn't as evil as his uncle."They didn't come?" Mom said."How?" I didn't understand."It may be that necklace around your neck," Mom said, gesturing towar
