Hiding the Billionaire's Daughter

Prologue

"Sign the divorce papers, Tanya," he said in a cold voice.

"You want to divorce me? B-but why, Dylan?" I gave him a direct look. His two chestnut-colored eyes appeared to be empty. It's as though he doesn't feel anything.

"This is not working, Tanya. Let's end this."

I shook my head. "But I'm trying hard, Dylan."

"I'm not happy anymore..." I smiled bitterly at what he said.

"What about me? Do you think I'm still happy? No, I'm not! But I chose to stay because I don't want to leave you!"

I couldn't stop my tears from falling. I never thought this day would come. Why does it have to be this way?

"Tanya, let's not make this hard for the both of us—"

I didn't let him finish. I grabbed the pen and the divorce papers from his hand. "If I sign this, will you be happy?"

I waited for him to answer. Even if it hurts, I'm willing to do it. I will sign our divorce papers and let him go. But who am I kidding? The truth is, I'm still hoping he wouldn't leave me.

I hoped he would still choose to stay with me... but he didn't.

"Yes."

A faint smile appeared on my lips. I want to beg him to take back what he said, but my hands seem to have a mind on its own. They willingly signed the divorce papers, and with just one signature, three years of happy marriage ended.

"Before I leave, I want to ask you one thing."

He let out a sigh and nodded. "What is it?"

I hesitated, but I knew that this was my last chance to ask him.

"Did you really... love me?"

For a while, he stood there staring at me in silence. Even his eyes were very different.

I just wish that somehow, he will say yes. That even if it were a lie, he would do it, but he failed me. Again.

"I never really loved you. I only married you because you were pregnant, but now that Steffi's gone, there's no reason for us to be together."

"No! You're lying!" Tears fell down my cheeks like water from an open faucet. "We were happy back then! Even though you were distant. I felt it, Dylan. You were happy."

"Yeah, when Steffi was still alive. Back when she was still with us, but now, after what you did to our daughter?"

"It was an accident!" I shook my head countless times. I don't want to leave when he still blames me for the death of our daughter. "No parents would want to lose their own child!"

"But we still lost her! And it's all because of you!"

I wanted to die with those words. Losing a child is very painful, and now, my husband is going to divorce me because of a mistake I didn't make.

Even if it kills me, I handed him our divorce papers. "If only I can, I would give my life to bring back Steffi. That's how much I loved her, but it's too late now. And this is the only thing I can do."

His eyes dropped to the divorce papers I was holding. He took it before walking back to his desk.

I stared at him while tears kept running down my cheeks. It hurts, it hurts so much, but I can't do anything else but to accept it.

"Now, we are no longer married. You are free."

I left the library and packed my things. One of Dylan's cars stopped in front of me as I got out of the mansion's gate.

Julio, his driver, got off from the car and opened the door of the backseat for Dayana, a friend of mine who is now Dylan's fiancée.

"Tanya." She came to me and held my hand. She gave me a faint smile. "Please, understand, we didn't mean to... i-it was an accident."

My eyes gaze down to her belly. I smiled bitterly. "Take care of Dylan."

She gently nodded. "Don't worry, we will be happy. I'll make sure of that."

She left and went inside. I watched as the gate closed. A few months after we lost Steffi, Dylan changed. He became colder and more distant. And then I discovered about his affair with Dayana.

"I'm sorry, I can't give you a complete family... baby," I whispered to myself as I caress my tummy.
