Chapter 4

"What are you talking about? Stop saying nonsense! You want to get back to me after you divorce me?"

"Don't flatter yourself. I only want your egg cell."

He surprised me a little bit. "My egg cell? What are you talking about?"

He let out a sigh and leaned back on his seat. He gave me a cold look. "Despite the fact that I'm in control of this company, grandpa still refuses to give me complete authority, so the entire firm hasn't yet been transferred to my name."

"And what does my egg cell have to do with that?"

"Grandpa made a new will."

My eyebrows met. "What?"

"I've been looking for you for a long time, but you are really good at hiding. We both know that our grandfathers were good friends. He doesn't want a grandchild from another woman. What he wants is from a Gaviola family."

I felt annoyed with his words. I stood up quickly and glared at him. "And you want to get me pregnant because I'm Cosme Gaviola's granddaughter?"

"Yes."

"You crazy bastard!"

I want to grab the thick glass with his name engraved on it and slap it at his face. But on second thought, why should I be angry? What he said to me is in my favor. We have a child.

I calmed myself and sat down again. "You don't need to get me pregnant, we already have a daughter."

"No. That child is not mine. She is Timothy's."

I looked at him in disbelief. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Is that the kind of woman he really thinks of me? Well, what do I expect? He did accuse me of being a careless mother. And he blames me for our daughter's death.

"What do I have to do to make you believe she's yours!"

He gave his full attention. He grinned and looked at me with his chestnut eyes. "Why only now?"

"What do you mean?"

"If she'll be three, why did you come to me just now? You said you were pregnant when you left, why didn't you tell me back then?"

We stared at each other for a long time. I couldn't answer his question right away. Why? Why couldn't I tell him?

A smile appeared across his lips. "Because that child is not mine—"

"Because Dayana's pregnant." I swallowed hard when I felt a lump in my throat.

The corners of my eyes warmed quickly as I remembered the day we separated.

"I asked you, didn't I? I asked you if you would be happy if I'm gone," I smiled bitterly, "And you said yes."

He swallowed when he saw tears running down my cheeks. I quickly wiped it and looked away.

"How can I tell you that I'm pregnant, if you want me gone so bad? You want me to go because you were having a baby with my friend. How can I stay?"

He looked at me intently. I can see the sadness in his eyes, but he quickly look away. Why am I doing this? It's all over between us.

I forced a smile and shook my head. "I'm here because your child needs you. She wants to meet you."

I got his attention again with what I said. I will not leave until he accepts Thalia.

"She has a heart condition... just like you, Dylan. She needs surgery."

He let out a heavy sigh. I notice that he was silent and gave it some thought. "Just because she has a heart disease doesn't mean she's mine."

"Then let's have a DNA test. Maybe, you'll believe me once you see the result."

He slowly shook his head while looking at me. "It would take a week or two to get the result. I want your answer now."

"My answer?"

He looked at me with a serious face. "I need a son from you."

"Well? How was it? Have you talked to him?"

Wena's face was the first thing I saw when I entered the apartment.

"Where's Thalia?" My eyes immediately searched for my daughter.

"In her room, she fell asleep while waiting for you. You want me to wake her up?"

I shook my head before closing the apartment door behind me. I went straight to the kitchen and took a glass of water. I also told Wena what Dylan and I had talked about.

"Well, what did you tell him?"

"I said, I'll think about it."

"For Pete's sake! What would you think about? What your ex-husband offered you is good!"

I faced her, shaking constantly. "I can't do it, Wena. We're going to bed to make me pregnant! That's absurd!"

"What's absurd about it? How do you make a baby then?"

"Wena, are you serious?" Annoyed, I returned to the living room and sat on the sofa. "He doesn't want Thalia, and he wants to make me pregnant so that I can bear him a son. For the love of God, he's married! And after I give birth, what will happen? My child will be taken away from me! No way!"

She quickly sat down next to me. "Then just seduce him, so you'll get back together!"

My eyes widen as I raised a brow. "Are you nuts? What do you think of me? A crazy bitch? And besides, I don't want to become a mistress!"

"But you own Dylan in the first place! That witch Dayana just stole him! What a bitch she is! She act as a quiet, shy girl, but she really is a bitch inside!"

I saw how her face turned red. She stood up and crossed her arms over her chest as she stood in the doorway.

"So ungrateful! She and her siblings barely had anything to eat when she went to you and cried for your help! You gave her a job at Dylan's office, but what did you get in return? She seduced your husband to steal your life!"

I shut my eyes. "I don't want to remember that, Wena. That's not my problem anymore."

"Accept his deal!" She went back in front of me.

"But, Wena—"

"It's a win-win situation, Tanya! You can get Thalia treated, and she'll even meet her father!"

"But I don't want what Dylan is asking for in exchange! I'm not a pig to get impregnate and then let them take my child away! I can't do that!"

"Then, what are you going to do now? Do you have enough money for Thalia's surgery?"

I went silent after that. "Nothing."

"Then, that's it! Let's just give and take, Tanya."

"But I'm always giving, and I'm not getting anything in return except resentment."

She sat on the coffee table in front of me and looked at me carefully. "Just like what I said, give and take. Give your ex-husband a son, and take his money for Thalia. You gave him to Dayana before, now, take him back."

I was dumbfounded for a minute. This girl really thinks differently. Mybe this is the reason why until now, she still has no boyfriend.

I was restless all day while thinking about what I should do. I don't care about Dayana and Dylan anymore, I just want Thalia to have surgery. But can I sleep with my ex-husband for his money?

What if I get pregnant and give birth? Will I really be able to give away my child? After a lot of thinking, when afternoon came, I decided to go back to Dylan's company.

"Sir, Miss Gaviola is back," said his secretary over the intercom.

"Let her in."

I entered his office. I know what he wants to happen is not right, but there's no more right or wrong now that my daughter's life is at risk. I'm ready to do this.

"I've been waiting for you."

I swallowed when I entered his office. He was standing in front of his desk and was smiling.

I nodded. "I accept your offer, but in one condition."

He stepped closer to me. "Tell me."

"Once we prove that she is your daughter—"

"Yeah, yeah, I will get her treated. Of course, I would do that."

"And you will apologize to me."

"What if I'm not the father?"

"Damn you! Your eggplant is the only thing that got into my bok choy! It's impossible that you're not the father!"

Dylan remained silent for a moment, then said slowly, "Yeah, but what if I'm not?"

His eyes were full of desire as he stared at my face. He raised his hand and gently caressed my cheek.

"Will you be mine... forever?"
