Chapter 4

He opened his eyes to find his hand cuffed and weapons confiscated. He then saw her, sat on an easy chair with a glass half full of alcohol.

"You're finally awake, Mr. Chandler."

He half smiled when he saw the files on the table beside her.

She continued, now sure of the information she got from the Elder.

"It seems you have quite the reputation in the Organization. I mean I am dammed to cross paths with you, Mr Shin, voted heir of half the Shin family fortune and CEO of Shin Pharmaceuticals. Had a lover but their relationship didn't last long because she was abducted, raped and coldly murdered by an unknown but dangerous gang. You joined the organization to avenge her but the bloodlust that followed later was too much so you joined the assassins' payroll. Your methods of gaining information from your victims are quite unorthodox but yet so fascinating, that you were immediately taken in from one of the smaller clans to the great Hian Hoshi clan."

She said as she glanced at him from time to time and refilling her glass with the drink in the bottle

"Oh, did I forget anything? Besides the obvious graduation documents."

"Yes, you forgot to mention the fact that hundreds of companies tremble at the feet of me, despite being an adoptee with no blood rights."

She let out a slight chuckle and brushed her wet hair backwards. "Of course. Toxic masculinity never fails to unveil itself." She said jokingly as she threw him the key.

He unlocked the restraint and stayed still, unable to move because he knew it would be pointless to try and attack her, much less try to run away. He looked at her, eyes stared widely at the half filled glass with no ice.  His eyes moved past her tired eyes and studied the room. The shelf that was at his right was filled with books that were arranged according to the genre and most of them were fictional, thriller and horror novels whose seal hadn't been opened and only seemed to collect dust. The others were based on psychology, anatomy and various poisons. He felt more anxious than before.

Aside from the shelf, there was nothing atypical in the room, the other side of the bed was a large closet, probably where she kept her clothes and probably hid her weapons. There was a small cabinet near the bed that served its own unknown purpose and the wide balcony that was alienated from the bedroom by a thin bullet proof transparent door.

'She could only hide her weapons in the closet and cabinet, which would take some time, probably twenty seconds to retrieve. Thirty if it is disassembled,'...Is what he thought.

Without a warning, she stood up abruptly and swiped past the wall behind her. A handgun with a silencer fell into her hand and was aimed at his left thigh.

"Mr Chandler, start talking." Those green eyes that only showed exhaustion and fatigue stared at him intensely, gave him shivers.

"You wanna know why I attacked you. That's easy, it's because you took my prey." He said clearly annoyed with the situation. She didn't bother hiding the confusion all over her face.

'Why the hell are you being annoyed, clearly I should be the one annoyed by this.' She thought as her left eyelid twitched.

"The man you killed yesterday. I was instructed to get information from him then finish him off but when I got there, I found the windows broken, his office trashed and an unlicensed surgery operated on his neck. I can't forget the nasty bullet wound on his chest."

She narrowed her eyes.

"Fine." He grunted and looked away from those sharp eyes, "I arrived earlier and waited for him to get off work and reach halfway home before attacking him. But instead, I got front row seats to an execution. To be honest, I thought you were a myth until I saw you jump off a fifty storey building and skillfully land."

She didn't stop gazing at those dark eyes of his. There was something really familiar about him: from the black hair that had now covered most of his forehead to the eyes that could not be defined by nothing but darkness the stupidly alluring voice of his. She placed her hands on the table and fidget her fingers.

"How did you find me? How do you know about me?"

"I hold a bit of influence in the organization." He said as he watched her nails pinch each others' fingers.

"Are you going to keep hunting me? I'll have to warn you though, I wont be as understanding as I am right now." She said as she replaced the gun and walked back to the easy chair before finishing another glass and heaving from the bitter feeling that slithered past her throat to her earlobes and back.

He cracked his knuckles and rested backwards on the bed. He pushed his hair back leaving some connected strands dangling on his forehead. She felt tired. Eyes droopy and brain pending. If what he was saying was true, and that he knew she was dangerous, why would he risk his life and approach her? He was waiting for her so he couldn't possibly be the 'thing' following her on her way home. What was that thing? Why was a Hian Hoshi there? What did he want from her? Why did Levi hold her?

'Wait, what?'

She let out a questioning voice and made a confused expression. Chandler raised an eyebrow. This was not the time to be thinking about being the recipient to an unrequited attraction but her drunk mind was already picturing long fingers slide down and settle at her waist. The feeling had not yet subsided and she reluctantly kept on thinking of Levi, despite having a famous, well off, well built man with a double life who might pose a threat to her plans right in front of her.

Chander's sudden interruption brought her back.

"Miss Hila, let me help you take care of the other eleven."

She didn't feel light headed or drunk anymore.

"Why would you help me? You are in no position to gain anything from their deaths and if you are, just shut it and consider yourself lucky that your competition just got lower."

She took off the robe and was left covered by a tiny sleeveless navy blue dress that barely covered even half her thighs. The pair of linen dolphin shorts of the same color loosely swayed as she moved towards him.

"Please leave, let us meet tomorrow during the Annual meeting of the Wushi-Chin Cooperation Funds Mr Chandler Chin."

Retrieving the gun placed on top of the dark sheeted bed, he stood up, inches apart from her. She felt a bit short when she looked up to meet his eyes.

"Hila-" He was interrupted by her narrowed eyes that basically said 'Call me that again and your family won't have to worry about your succession'

"You can't do this by yourself. They have grown too powerful. Let me help you." He urged her. His eyes didn't lie, nor was there any stammering when he talked. But why did he want to help her? If he was smart he would've watched in silence as the play went on and enjoyed himself until the curtains cane down.

"Why are you so fixated on this?" Her inquisitive stare made it impossible to lie, even though he had a gun in his hand and would shoot her if she learnt the truth.

He looked away. Mouth covered by his hand.

It was too late to recover from the fact that she knew he was hiding something. He closed his eyes and sighed in disappointment.

"I cannot tell you, Miss Mo."

'Oh, so now your speaking formally' She thought as she bit her upper lip to cover the half smile.

"Leave then. Don't bother telling me anything more. Goodbye and goodnight."

He hesitated at first then exited the house through the open balcony.

It was when she finished the last sip of the third bottle of bourbon that she tucked her exhausted body to sleep.
