Jade’s POV

"Wake up! Get up right now!"

A heavy, rough hand grabbed my shoulder, shaking my body back and forth until my eyes fluttered open. Pale morning light filtered through the tall, arched windows, illuminating the dust motes dancing softly in the cold air.

I blinked repeatedly, rubbing my eyes as my mind tried to catch up with my surroundings. Wait... when on earth did I fall asleep? I couldn't remember dropping off to sleep at all. My last memory was sitting on the edge of the velvet mattress beside Bakito, whispering promises of escape into the dark room. I must have been so exhausted from the sheer stress, fear, and long travel that my body simply shut down, plunging me into a deep, dreamless sleep without my even realizing it.

I pushed myself up onto my elbows, turning my head to look around the vast bedchamber. Everyone else was already out of bed, standing near the foot of their mattresses in a silent, tense line.

My eyes settled on Bakito. She was standing there rubbing her sleepy eyes with her small fists, her dark hair messy and sticking out in all directions. She looked so tiny, carrying an innocent, fragile expression that made my heart ache with overwhelming pity. Her wrists were thin, her shoulders narrow, and her frame so slender that she looked as if a strong gust of wind could knock her over and break her bones.

At the front of the room, standing right beside the open oak doors, stood a stern-faced head servant woman. She wore a crisp, ironed uniform, her posture rigid as she held a thick sheet of paper in her hand. Her sharp eyes swept across the four of us, assessing our tired faces with zero warmth.

"Listen up, all of you," the woman projected her loud, authoritative voice across the room, her fingers tapping against the edge of her clipboard. "Work begins right now. You are going to be divided into pairs for today's duties. One pair will be assigned to the main kitchen and the Alpha's personal laundry, while the second pair will be responsible for cleaning the Alpha's bedchamber."

She raised the paper closer to her face, clearing her dry throat as she read off the official list. "Abigail and Jade—you two will be cleaning the Alpha's bedchamber today. Rita and Bakito—you two will be handling the laundry and assisting with the Alpha's meals throughout the day."

The moment the words left her mouth, Abigail’s face transformed completely.

She twisted her features into an exaggerated, pouty expression, her lower lip trembling as if she were on the verge of bursting into heavy tears. She clasped her hands together in a dramatic gesture of despair, taking a swift step toward the head servant.

"Oh, please, ma'am! I beg of you, please don't make me work with that dangerous girl!" Abigail cried out, her voice dripping with artificial distress.

She quickly pulled back the fabric of her sleeve, thrusting her forearm forward to show the woman a faint, reddish bruise on her skin—a mark she had likely given herself.

"Look at what she did to me yesterday!" Abigail whimpered, shaking her head in tragic sorrow. "We only arrived here yesterday, and she is already causing so much violent trouble in the room! Please, ma'am, I am terrified of her! I can't possibly work alongside her! Please let me work with my best friend instead!"

Without waiting for permission, Abigail reached out and snatched Rita, throwing her arms around the quiet girl and pulling her tightly into a suffocating hug. Rita stood frozen, blinking behind her thick eyeglasses, completely bewildered and confused by the sudden affection.

The head servant woman didn't even blink. Her face remained cold and unbothered as she stared at Abigail's pathetic performance. "No. The assignments are already finalized on this list, and I do not care about your personal feelings. Get to work."

Refusing to give up, Abigail squeezed Rita even tighter, dropping her tone into a desperate, theatrical whine. "Please, ma'am! I am telling the absolute truth! You don't have to take my word for it—you can ask my friend right here! Jade caused so much trouble for all of us yesterday, didn't she?"

Abigail dug her fingers into Rita's shoulder, pressing the quiet girl hard against her side. Her voice took on a sharp, silent threat as she hissed, "Right, Rita? Tell her!"

Rita swallowed hard, her eyes darting nervously between Abigail's tight grip and the stern face of the head servant. Fear washed over her pale face. Trembling under the intense pressure, Rita gave a hesitant, timid nod. "Y-yeah... that's true..."

I stood near my mattress, watching the entire pathetic display in absolute silence. I didn't say a single word. I didn't raise my voice, nor did I bother to defend myself against Abigail's lies. I simply didn't have the energy or the desire to engage in a petty argument so early in the morning. Besides, I had no interest in spending my entire day trapped in a room with a toxic bully anyway.

The head servant woman shifted her cold, calculating gaze away from Abigail and locked her eyes squarely on me. Her lips pressed into a thin, tight line as she took in my calm, unbothered posture.

"So... you are the troublemaker around here, are you?" the woman growled, her voice laced with sharp disapproval as she made a quick mark on her paper.

She tapped her clipboard against her hip, making an immediate executive decision on the spot. "Fine. If you want to cause trouble, then I will make sure you are kept where someone can keep an eye on you. You and Bakito will be cleaning the Alpha's bedchamber today."

Oh God... What on earth is this? Just when I thought things had already hit rock bottom, just when I genuinely believed that the worst had already happened to me, everything kept getting ten times worse. It felt like every time I reached the absolute lowest point of my life, a trapdoor opened underneath my feet and dropped me into a whole new depth of hell. Why was this brutal beast—this absolute monster who dared to call himself an Alpha—putting my bleeding finger straight into his mouth? What kind of twisted, sickening animal behavior was this? A terrible shiver ran down my spine as his hot tongue brushed against my open wound. I tried to yank my hand back in sheer disgust, but his massive fingers held my wrist in a vice-like grip, pinning me completely helpless in front of him. His dark eyes narrowed into slow, predatory slits, watching my terrified face as he gently pulled my thumb out of his mouth. He swallowed slowly, a strange, unhinged look washing over his sharp feat

I knelt frozen on the floorboards, staring down at my open palm as dark crimson blood welled up from the gash, overflowing in steady streams and dripping heavily onto the wood. All of this pain, all of this blood, was entirely because of the heartless monster sitting just a few paces away from me. The sight of my own blood proved to be the final straw. Tears burst from my eyes, hot and unstoppable, streaming down my blotchy cheeks as my chest heaved with quiet, agonizing sobs. I couldn't hold back the crushing weight inside me anymore. I am such an absolute fool, I screamed mentally at myself, my throat tight with bitter regret. I am so ridiculously stupid! How could I have been this blind? I should have gone with him that night when I had the chance! I should have followed him without looking back! Everything terrible that is happening to me right now in this dark fortress is completely my own fault! It wasn't anyone else's fault but my own. This nightmare was the direct result

I kept my mouth shut, refusing to give him the satisfaction of hearing me complain. I slowly sank down to my knees on the cold floorboards, resting the metal trash bin right beside me. My fingers trembled slightly as I reached out toward the wide pile of shattered crystal and dark wine stains. Some of the broken pieces were large, jagged slabs with lethal edges, while others were tiny, razor-sharp splinters scattered across the blue rug. I took a deep, steadying breath, carefully pinching the flat side of a heavy glass shard between my thumb and index finger. I lifted it slowly, dropping it into the metal bin with a loud, ringing clink. Piece by piece, I kept picking them up. I moved with extreme caution, double-checking every angle before placing my bare skin against the jagged edges. My heart pounded against my ribs like a trapped bird, every instinct screaming at me to stop before I cut myself to ribbons, but I gritted my teeth and kept working, filling the bottom of the bin o

He froze in place, his chest heaving as his dark eyes fixated on the jagged mess spread across the floorboards. The crimson wine was soaking deep into the expensive rug, surrounding the scattered shards of broken glass like a pool of fresh blood. A dark, unhinged look flashed across his face. Without saying a word, he turned on his heel and strode toward an even larger mahogany table standing near the balcony. This one was stacked high with row upon row of crystal decanters, silver platters, and dozens of delicate wine glasses. He pulled back his heavy boot and kicked the table leg with explosive force. The heavy structure flipped into the air with a violent crash. The deafening, ear-splitting sound of shattering glass and breaking crystal erupted through the vast chamber, echoing off the stone walls. Sharp shards flew in every direction, and I instinctively flinched, clamping both hands tight over my ears to block out the unbearable noise. Once the room fell dead silent again

A slow, dangerous smile spread across his face, his dark eyes glittering with amusement as he looked down at me. "Wow... I actually like this," he murmured, his voice dropping into a low, rumbling growl that made the hair on my arms stand up. "A tiny little girl who is completely terrified on the inside... Her heart is pounding so hard and fast that I can hear every single rapid beat echo in my ears, yet she stands there pretending to be so unbelievably bold." He stepped even closer, his towering shadow swallowing me up completely as his lip curled into a cold, arrogant sneer. "I do not give a damn what your name is," he spat out, his tone dripping with utter contempt. "I do not know you, nor do I care to know you. The only person I know is your useless, pathetic excuse of a father, Vicenzo. So I will address you by whatever title I choose. I am going to call you Vicenzo, and whenever that name leaves my mouth, you will open yours and answer me immediately." A hot flare of def

My heart instantly stopped, dropping straight into my stomach as complete, freezing terror rushed through my veins. The broom handle slipped slightly in my sweaty palm. So he was inside this room all this time while I was sweeping around like an idiot? I had genuinely assumed the giant chamber was completely empty when I walked in, but I guess this room was simply way too massive, with dark, shadowy corners that could easily hide a giant. "I asked you a clear question," his deep voice echoed out again, even heavier and colder than before. The sound came directly from the tall, high-backed leather armchair situated in the dim corner near the balcony, a short distance away from where I stood. "Where is the second person? The head servant gave explicit instructions that there were supposed to be two of you cleaning this chamber today." I forced my hands to keep moving, dragging the broom bristles across the clean rug so he wouldn't see my shoulders shaking. "She is sick," I replied
