CHAPTER 1

last update Fecha de publicación: 2026-03-03 19:39:14

My heart hammered in my chest as I ran through the night, throngs of feet chasing after me. It wasn't my first rodeo and it has been happening way before I got my wolf.

With her now, I stood a chance, one that before never existed.

My wolf's paws landed on a nail that I'm sure was intentionally placed on my path but despite the pain, I urged us on, pushing through it.

Just over the edge of that clearing, that's where our freedom lay.

They loved to pretend they were respecting the Alpha but it's all just part of the game.

The second I crossed that line, my father would be waiting for me, irritation in his gaze.

But his punishment was better than that of Saul and his minions chasing behind me, anger rising in their aura.

It's been months since they last got the chance to beat the shit out of me.

Months since I learned to run faster, push through every discomfort and pain, and jump past that line.

It was heartbreaking that I couldn't even celebrate this win because of what usually lay at the end of the finish like but hey, a win is a win, as Father's Beta would always say.

I think he hates his position but don't tell him I said that.

“Run faster you imbeciles!” I heard the irate voice of Saul in the Pack link, pushing the boys to a faster pace.

But I was already close to the end, there's no way they could catch me.

Without my pushing, Sofie increased our pace and boom!

With a strong jump that pushed that nail deeper into her paw, we exited the bushes, expecting the big bad Alpha to be at his usual position, screaming at me.

But he wasn't, which I found odd.

A win is definitely a win, I grinned as I slowed down, relief filling my body.

I began heading to the Pack house when I suddenly heard a snarl behind me and I turned only to see Saul pounce on me.

A howl escaped my lungs and I struggled to fight back but I was too weak compared to him.

Sofie barely had time to turn before Saul's full weight crashed into us.

We went down hard, dirt filling my mouth.

He was bigger, heavier, and he knew it, used it, pinning us with his body while his teeth found the back of our neck in a grip that wasn't a kill hold but wasn't gentle either.

I thrashed. Sofie thrashed. Neither of us could shift the bastard.

His teeth pressed deeper and I felt Sofie whimper beneath my will; I hated him for that most of all. For making her make that sound.

"Saul."

He stopped immediately, slowly extracting his fangs from my throat and pushing back on his hind legs, while I simmered in pain.

“The Beast of the West is coming to the Pack tomorrow. Go join your father in preparation. And that goes for all of you!”

“Yes Alpha,” multiple voices responded before different paws hit the ground and ran off in the opposite direction.

“And you,” he growled, coming towards me.

Before I could do anything, move away, run, things that never seemed to work by the way, I felt his foot kick my ribs.

My wolf howled, echoing our pain to the sky.

“Go to your room and stay there until the day after tomorrow! I don't want to see or smell your rotten scent down here!”

He didn't even need to use his Alpha command. Normally it won't work for me, I'm his daughter and equally alpha blood but with how much I've been beaten down all my life, an omega is nearly stronger than I am.

Sofie's paws carried us out of the presence of the man who let out all of his frustration on us every chance he got, watched by the Pack that enjoyed watching him humiliate me.

If only my mother survived…

I shook the thought away, no point in going that route now anyway.

My wolf had a dilemma as we headed up to our room, if you can call it that; it was a storage room that was cleared out for me after I turned 8.

He was tired of seeing or smelling my scent.

The nail hurt more now that nobody was beating the crap out of me and it was terrible, not allowing us to heal.

If I shift with it still in her legs, the pain will be so excruciating that I might pass out.

“Turn your leg around and press the nail to the ground until it comes out on the other end,” I told her, tremors causing my voice to shake.

Wordlessly, she did as I said and a pang rang through me as she growled in pain, the nail slowly pushing through tissue and skin, back out the way it came.

Then she sighed and sagged on the ground so I took over.

In human form, the hole was bigger, gaping and blood was dripping from it so I found the first aid kit that was permanently in my room because no one else needed it and I patched myself.

One good thing about this strange visit from the strongest Alpha in the West and Midlands combined was that for the next three days, I could rest.

No chores, no school or running from the bullies that my father encouraged to make my life a living hell.

His hatred for me ran so deep that despite his reasons for it, it made no sense.

I found the bag of chips I'd been saving for a special occasion and laid it next to my small cot.

Pain guided my movements until I carefully lay still on the bed and fell asleep.

Loud knocking shook me up from the blackout sleep I was in and it took me a few seconds in disorientated staring before I realised the pounding was coming from my door.

And that scent…

Sofie reacted inside of me, pushing me to get up, to go see my… mate?

In this Pack?

There's never been anyone in this Pack to have shown me an ounce of kindness.

How come…

“Open this door right now, Maya!”

My heart leapt out of my chest.

“Saul?”

“I'm going to break this door down in three seconds if you don't fucking open it!”

My body moved faster and I unbolted the door quickly.

And there he stood.

Taller than before, his hair falling in his face, his eyes flickering between red and blue.

The telling of an internal war with his wolf.

My world came crumbling down as I came to the horrifying realisation;

Saul Wilde is my mate.

My feet hurt from one of the traps I'd mistakenly jumped on but it was healing. Not as quickly because my body was running low on nutrients but it was enough. We were getting close to MoonPaw when Darren screamed.I turned to see he'd jumped into another one of those gnarly things. Immediately I turned around to help him.“No Alpha, don't bother about me. Go and fight for your mate, I'll wait here till I'm healed.”“Are you sure?”“Absolutely. I've failed you many times already, I don't want to be a bother.”“No one said you were. I don't like the idea of leaving you all alone here by yourself.”“Oh come, I'm not that weak. I'm a Beta, did you forget that?”“It's hard not to when you keep falling over your own ass.”“Oh, now you're back to making jokes, huh?”I shook my head and retreated, joining the rest of my men on the road to the enemy's Pack.It was at least three hours away from where we abandoned my bleeding Beta but his harsh breathing was the only human sound I was hearing t

  • His Defiant Little Breeder   Chapter 125

CADEN'S POV My walk back to the Pack after dealing with Tony was humiliating and sad.I didn't find her, I failed and it was all because I didn't move on time.If I hadn't sunk to my wolf's emotions and stayed still instead of chasing around for her, I might have gotten to them before they left. Now I don't even know where to start.I mean, I'll start heading to the North but who knows what will happen before I get there.Who knows if he'll kill her? Who knows if our baby is safe?Oh, what am I saying? I can feel her in pain, her body weak.Of course, the baby isn't safe and she's waiting for me to be her hero and save her as I promised.Yet, I can't find her.I can't figure out how to track her scent like a true wolf. When I got back to the Pack, everyone knew immediately that I'd failed and they avoided me.Except Darren."Alpha? What happened?"I threw the hair at him."Oh shit, I'm so sorry, I smelled her and immediately ran back to –"I tuned him out and kept walking to the Pac

There was a lot of movement, horses everywhere, sacks of food supplies stacked in carriages and the entire Pack running around.Vera was nowhere to be found.I was tied again in silver chains and this one was tighter than the one Vera tied.Despite her cruelty, she's still a woman compared to these animals. My body was threatening to shut down on me but Sofie kept fighting. The baby kicked again as I tried to adjust to my new reality and winced. It didn't stop kicking as usual, and fear filled me.What if I go into early labour here?Where are they even going to? Is there..I stopped the painful train of thoughts and focused on my environment. Finally, everything paused, like they'd all finished parking their lives up and were now waiting for their Alpha. He came out, dressed in fur.It looked off on him, or maybe no one would ever look as good as Caden in a fur coat. This Alpha was slim, his beard had white streaks and he looked like he spent all his time thinking. The power he was t

Her Pack?My eyes went between the two of them, the conversation confusing."And I will, but she has to serve her purpose. Besides, you weren't supposed to bring her yet. What do you think he'll do when he realises his precious mate is gone?""That's none of my business. Do whatever you need to do. Take him out, I need my Pack back!" Vera snarled, getting agitated."Fine, give me a few days, I'll give you an army.""No, I don't want to go head-to-head with him. Caden has to go to hell with the knowledge that I'm dead, understand?""Wait," the Alpha chuckled, "are you scared? Is that why you want me to do your dirty work for you?""I did yours for you, didn't I? His father took the Pack from mine and I'm doing the same! It's none of your business how I do it. I've done your bit, do yours and stop asking me stupid questions!""Alright then, we'll get to work, little wolf, soon. Seth, take her in. Secure her properly, we have a lot to do and can't be bothering with a running prisoner.""

  • His Defiant Little Breeder   Chapter 122

MAYA'S POV My eyes trailed the forest as we flew past it. This horse was of the highest quality, because we'd been running for days and there was barely any chance for her to rest. My captor who I still can't believe was.. is, Caden's mate, only stops once a day to throw fruits at me. Anger had replaced the pain in my head and most of it was directed at my wolf. "It was a pointless attempt, you had to have known that!" "It was pointless because you're a fucking coward and wouldn't help me! How are you my wolf if we can't work together?!" "Coward? Because I'm protecting our baby? Why did you even ask for it if you don't want it?" "How dare you accuse me of that?" "You have never wanted to be pregnant for Caden! So of course you won't understand what it takes to ensure a safe pregnancy! You just allowed it because you think it'll make him stay with us." "Sofie!" "Deny it! I dare you!" "You're my wolf but that doesn't mean you can read my mind. My memories, yes but not my mi

  • His Defiant Little Breeder   Chapter 121

CADEN'S POV I was in that spot for hours. You'd expect a sense of urgency to settle over me, you'd expect me to lose my shit, to throw caution to the wind and start running like a headless chicken. And one part of my body screamed for that, screamed for me to make the world bleed, to feel my pain for daring to touch what's mine. But I was physically incapacitated by pain. Not the physical kind, my mind was screaming at me.I wasn't supposed to fall, I wasn't supposed to let her too close or even allow the world to know anything about her.I should have let her stay with Killian, I should have been good, I should have kept away from her knowing how cursed I am.I'd lost one mate already, what made me think I deserved another?Especially one so perfect, so powerful? And now, fate had dealt me a heavy blow.I was a selfish bastard and now she's nowhere to be found."Alpha?" Genevieve called for me again, the third time this morning.A grunt was all that left me."I've questioned everyon

CADEN'S POV I jerk awake and immediately take stock of my surroundings and then my nose inhales deeply, making me look down at my hands, precisely the small bundle framed to my side. Her hair as usual was splayed all over my arm like a halo on her head and she was sleeping soundly. In my shirt.Gu

  • His Defiant Little Breeder   CHAPTER 23

The hot breath I took in sharply must be wondering what it did wrong. My father was clearly older, weaker and haven't had to fight anyone in the past ten years.Beyond hitting me angrily, he hasn't extended those hands in violence to anyone. And now, he's facing the strongest Alpha as far as my lim

I nearly began dancing in excitement, his face morphed into shock that screamed, 'I won't in my head and I might have walked more slowly than I should have but I didn't care.I made Alpha Caden feel something other than anger or the insane need to control everything. It felt way too good that I too

  • His Defiant Little Breeder   CHAPTER 13

MAYA'S POV The training yesterday was more intense than I thought, but for some reason, it was exciting to have a purpose to wake up to.My entire body protested though, it was like I'd been hammered in different joints and I could barely work. But the threat of Alpha Caden hung over my head and I
