My heart hammered in my chest as I ran through the night, throngs of feet chasing after me. It wasn't my first rodeo and it has been happening way before I got my wolf.
With her now, I stood a chance, one that before never existed. My wolf's paws landed on a nail that I'm sure was intentionally placed on my path but despite the pain, I urged us on, pushing through it. Just over the edge of that clearing, that's where our freedom lay. They loved to pretend they were respecting the Alpha but it's all just part of the game. The second I crossed that line, my father would be waiting for me, irritation in his gaze. But his punishment was better than that of Saul and his minions chasing behind me, anger rising in their aura. It's been months since they last got the chance to beat the shit out of me. Months since I learned to run faster, push through every discomfort and pain, and jump past that line. It was heartbreaking that I couldn't even celebrate this win because of what usually lay at the end of the finish like but hey, a win is a win, as Father's Beta would always say. I think he hates his position but don't tell him I said that. “Run faster you imbeciles!” I heard the irate voice of Saul in the Pack link, pushing the boys to a faster pace. But I was already close to the end, there's no way they could catch me. Without my pushing, Sofie increased our pace and boom! With a strong jump that pushed that nail deeper into her paw, we exited the bushes, expecting the big bad Alpha to be at his usual position, screaming at me. But he wasn't, which I found odd. A win is definitely a win, I grinned as I slowed down, relief filling my body. I began heading to the Pack house when I suddenly heard a snarl behind me and I turned only to see Saul pounce on me. A howl escaped my lungs and I struggled to fight back but I was too weak compared to him. Sofie barely had time to turn before Saul's full weight crashed into us. We went down hard, dirt filling my mouth. He was bigger, heavier, and he knew it, used it, pinning us with his body while his teeth found the back of our neck in a grip that wasn't a kill hold but wasn't gentle either. I thrashed. Sofie thrashed. Neither of us could shift the bastard. His teeth pressed deeper and I felt Sofie whimper beneath my will; I hated him for that most of all. For making her make that sound. "Saul." He stopped immediately, slowly extracting his fangs from my throat and pushing back on his hind legs, while I simmered in pain. “The Beast of the West is coming to the Pack tomorrow. Go join your father in preparation. And that goes for all of you!” “Yes Alpha,” multiple voices responded before different paws hit the ground and ran off in the opposite direction. “And you,” he growled, coming towards me. Before I could do anything, move away, run, things that never seemed to work by the way, I felt his foot kick my ribs. My wolf howled, echoing our pain to the sky. “Go to your room and stay there until the day after tomorrow! I don't want to see or smell your rotten scent down here!” He didn't even need to use his Alpha command. Normally it won't work for me, I'm his daughter and equally alpha blood but with how much I've been beaten down all my life, an omega is nearly stronger than I am. Sofie's paws carried us out of the presence of the man who let out all of his frustration on us every chance he got, watched by the Pack that enjoyed watching him humiliate me. If only my mother survived… I shook the thought away, no point in going that route now anyway. My wolf had a dilemma as we headed up to our room, if you can call it that; it was a storage room that was cleared out for me after I turned 8. He was tired of seeing or smelling my scent. The nail hurt more now that nobody was beating the crap out of me and it was terrible, not allowing us to heal. If I shift with it still in her legs, the pain will be so excruciating that I might pass out. “Turn your leg around and press the nail to the ground until it comes out on the other end,” I told her, tremors causing my voice to shake. Wordlessly, she did as I said and a pang rang through me as she growled in pain, the nail slowly pushing through tissue and skin, back out the way it came. Then she sighed and sagged on the ground so I took over. In human form, the hole was bigger, gaping and blood was dripping from it so I found the first aid kit that was permanently in my room because no one else needed it and I patched myself. One good thing about this strange visit from the strongest Alpha in the West and Midlands combined was that for the next three days, I could rest. No chores, no school or running from the bullies that my father encouraged to make my life a living hell. His hatred for me ran so deep that despite his reasons for it, it made no sense. I found the bag of chips I'd been saving for a special occasion and laid it next to my small cot. Pain guided my movements until I carefully lay still on the bed and fell asleep. Loud knocking shook me up from the blackout sleep I was in and it took me a few seconds in disorientated staring before I realised the pounding was coming from my door. And that scent… Sofie reacted inside of me, pushing me to get up, to go see my… mate? In this Pack? There's never been anyone in this Pack to have shown me an ounce of kindness. How come… “Open this door right now, Maya!” My heart leapt out of my chest. “Saul?” “I'm going to break this door down in three seconds if you don't fucking open it!” My body moved faster and I unbolted the door quickly. And there he stood. Taller than before, his hair falling in his face, his eyes flickering between red and blue. The telling of an internal war with his wolf. My world came crumbling down as I came to the horrifying realisation; Saul Wilde is my mate.Slowly we fell into a routine, bathing him in the morning, he usually wakes up around two in the afternoon. After which I'll get him food to eat. He's usually very tired so we just lay in bed for some hours, my wolf playing with him and sometimes the baby and then it's time for dinner. After trying about three times to get him to bathe while awake in the evening, I resigned to just knocking him out first before soaking him in the water.Gradually, I could feel the drugs working. My hair had grown out a bit again so I cut it and made another hair bangle for him.The other one was still on him but it looked dead sort of.But things were going well, except that Genevieve still hasn't been able to get anything out of those rogue omegas and it's frustrating me.Today, I decided I'll try myself. If they won't speak to me on their own, I'll have to use other methods. After putting Caden to sleep on the sixth day, I headed to the dungeon where I told her to move them to.But I was carrying a
My stubbornness finally paid off and I slept off at some point. But I woke up the next morning and everything was just as bad.No matter, it's time to get these people out of here so I can take a damn breath without feeling like I'm about to turn to ashes.I quickly showered and then prepared Caden's bath water with the herbs and went to get him.Carrying him while was asleep was harder than I thought but with a grunt, I finally got him into the tub.He moved around sleepily but he didn't fight me off.I let him soak in the water for a bit longer, and then I checked on his wounds. They were all healed except a gash by his left shoulder. So I put more of my blood there after draining the water. He was grumbling in his sleep until I carried him out and back to the bed. We'll have to sun the mattress after this entire ordeal.I shut the windows and the door before going down.Cade was crying and I felt bad for not checking in on him again."I've fed him and tried everything, he won't sto
Still, I went downstairs to fetch a bucket of ice. That's when I heard a growl. It was so far away that I didn't even know how I heard it but I know that growl and the owner of it."Sofie! He's back!" I screamed at my wolf."Yes!" She yelled in equal excitement, pushing out of me the second I opened the door.We didn't wait for him to get here, I was dying for relief and I damn well knew the second we connect, everything will be fine.Hot, filthy, mind-blowing but also fine.So I jumped towards the gate and yelled at the guards to open it."Luna? What's the problem? You can't leave, it's the middle of the night!""Follow me if you want, Cassius but open that gate right now!" I roared, my Alpha strength pouring out."Maya?" Aida's voice rang in my head."I'm fine, I heard Caden's growl and I'm going to meet him!""Are you sure he's the one?""Oh trust me, no one else can growl like that.""Take people with you babes, please.""Yeah, sure, Cassius won't let me leave otherwise. He's behi
I took two cold showers but by the time I got back to bed, my body was already aching. My core was clenching and it was like the butterflies in my stomach were having a strange, wild party.I'd thought about talking to Maggie about this again but she already told me it'll subside when they're far from me.The problem was surviving tonight.I have been looking at that pouch of sleeping herbs for far too long but then, what if there's an attack on the Pack?My excuse can't be that I was so horny I made myself pass out, leading to the death of my people and probably my son.No.. nope.No sleeping herbs."You know, you could try doing it yourself," Sofie suggested softly, as though she wasn't talking about something crazy."Myself? How?""It won't be anything like when Caden does it, I'm sure. But I think if you give yourself maybe one or two orgasms, you can get enough relief to pass out.""You know what? Let's just go for a run.""Maya.""Sofie," I replied, already shifting into her."S
"Iron Claw," I began and I jerked in shock when they roared back at me. I couldn't help laughing, "You guys, I'm not sure I can rouse you up like Caden does." "You can Luna, just yell it out loud!" Someone in the middle instructed. I shook my head but they begged. "Come onn.. Please?" "Oh fine you rascals," I gave in, fighting a smile. "Iron Claw!" I yelled, they replied with a resounding roar, hyping me up. I did it again and again until I was screaming as loud as they were, laughing in excitement until everyone calmed down. "You guys are awesome," I chuckled, taking a lungful of air. "Yes!" "Alright, let's get into serious business. I know we're supposed to have done a memorial for our losses but until the Alpha can lead us, I think we can wait. Is that alright with you?" Everyone agreed, some clapping. "Good. The other matter is one that I've discussed with your leaders here and even Alpha Killian and we came to a conclusion. I hope you're ready for this." They roared,
I sighed, already shaking my head."You don't understand what it takes, Brynn. Don't worry, I'm going to give you more responsibilities in the Pack if you're feeling left out.""No, it's not about that," she sighed wringing her hands together.I moved to the side and patted the space near me on the couch, "Sit."A look of surprise crossed her features before she did, folding her hands tightly on her lap."What is the problem?""I know I have offended you greatly and betrayed your utmost trust. My life had no meaning before Alpha Caden rescued me and then you made me your friend and kept me from going insane. I repaid that by doing something stupid.""We've gotten over that, Brynn. Hm?""Yes but the more I heal properly, the worse I feel. And I want to do something, anything, to ease this burden. Please, let me bind my wolf to you, to serve you and pay off this terrible debt I've incurred.""Brynn, these Sentinels think they're doing me a favour," I switched to mind link, "but in a few
Twelve Packs answered my call. Some out of loyalty, most out of fear, all of them smart enough to know that the alternative wasn't something they wanted to test. I felt them through the collective as we converged at the ridge.I didn't waste time.I shifted immediately and pulled on shorts and a fu
What I hate the most was how my body and heart was feeling betrayed. He's not my male, mark or not.Why was I feeling so much pain? And the worst part? He'd marked me and now my body was craving him, desperate for the pain coming from his fingers. He wasn't sleeping just as I was and suddenly I he
MAYA'S POV There's no way she's serious or maybe she doesn't know what she's talking about.Brynn experienced a lot of terrible things where she was rescued from and even though she's never told me the details, I recognise pain, especially one that's stronger than mine.I might have suffered all m
The Pack was clearly shaken and was looking at me for reassurance, something I wasn't wired for so I walked past them back to my office where Genevieve was already waiting for me.The letter was small, folded once, the blood already dried brown at the edges.Genevieve handed it to me without a word
