I Killed Him

Charlotte Moore's POV

I opened my eyes, the corners of my mouth curving into a small crack of a smile . I had a dream last night that Liam and I were mates, that after we mated, my wolf awakened, that I regained my powers, that my appearance became voluptuous and attractive, and that everyone in the tribe became kind at me as they used to be two years ago. This dream felt like a good omen.

I quickly got out of bed. Putting on a blue polka dot shirt with a Peter Pan neckline and a long white cotton skirt that Liam had given me as a gift for my fifteenth birthday, I hoped that it would conjure up our past fond memories in his mind. He hadn't given me any gifts since two years ago, which made me a little sad. But that's okay, I mentally cheer myself up. Once we become mates, everything can be as good as it used to be.

Humming a tune, I walked down the stairs at a brisk pace and made my way to the kitchen. My mom was making me a cake there.

"Dear, happy birthday," Mom warmly greeted me. There was a dusting of flour on her nose.

"Mom, I love you," I walked up and hugged her.

"The cake base is baked, and the frosting is done. You can decorate it as you like," she smiled with affection.

I grabbed an apron from the cupboard and tied it around my waist. Holding a piping bag filled with cream, I squeezed heart shapes onto the cake base, each heart representing my love for Liam. Then, I covered the hearts with sliced strawberries. Everything was perfectly arranged.

The doorbell rang. It was nine in the morning, the time Liam and I had agreed upon. I rushed to open the door. Through the crack, I caught a strong and alluring scent of mint, making my heart race. With trembling hands, I swung the door open, revealing Liam, standing in his full glory. Everything in the world paled in comparison to him. I locked my gaze onto his eyes, those captivating blue eyes, a rush of pleasure coursing through my body.

"Mate!" I exclaimed.

He didn't respond. His eyes were filled with astonishment, leaving me puzzled. Could it be that he didn't want us to become mates?

I shook my head, dispelling this horrifying thought. If he didn't want us to be mates, he wouldn't have come today.

Inviting him in, I gestured for him to wait in my room. Then, I headed to the kitchen to fetch the cake.

"Mom! Liam's here! He's my mate!" I called out to her.

"That's wonderful, I'm so happy for you," Mom smiled, her eyes glistening.

I rushed over and hugged her tightly, "Mom, I'm so happy. I've finally found happiness. He's waiting for me in the room, I'm going to give him the cake. I'll go now."

With that, I picked up the cake and ascended the stairs with eagerness. The door to my room was open, Liam sat on my bed, smoking. I walked in and placed the cake on the dresser.

"Why are you dressed so old-fashioned?"

Liam's words left me puzzled. I responded with a touch of disappointment, "This outfit was a birthday gift from you three years ago. I wanted to wear it on this special day."

"Really? I don't remember much," he flicked the ash from his cigarette and stood up, coming closer to me.

He bent down, his face inching closer to mine. I closed my eyes, my heart pounding, anticipating his kiss. But he didn't move any closer.

He didn't kiss me, he hadn't kissed me in two years.

After a few seconds, I opened my eyes in confusion and saw him studying my face with an amused expression.

"You look especially beautiful today," he commented.

"Thank you," I replied with some disappointment.

"Come on, lie down there," he pointed at the dresser, smirking.

I understood what he meant, he wanted to fuck me, and I wanted fuck him too.

I obediently held onto the edge of the dresser, facing the mirror, my butt greeted him. His thrusts were so intense that the dresser rocked violently and the cake slid a little toward the edge. In that final moment, he pushed forcefully, with a thud and the cake snapped to the floor. I slumped limply onto the dresser. Through the mirror, I saw a rosy blush on my originally thin and pale cheeks, and my originally dry lips became rosy and full, considered pretty. Was this the power of the mate bond? It could make me refreshed.

Liam was now sitting on the bed, putting on his pants. I walked over, sat beside him, lifted my hair, exposing my nape, implying for him to mark me.

However, he seemed completely oblivious, preoccupied with fastening his belt.

"You haven't marked me yet." I said in a pouty tone as I leaned over his shoulder.

"Oh, I wasn't planning on marking you," he said with an indifferent expression.

Instantly, I became alert, staring at his eyes as I questioned him, "Why? mates are supposed to mark each other."

His brows furrowed, his tone growing impatient, "Did I say I was going to accept you?"

His words came as a bolt from the blue. My eyes widened and I grabbed his hand, forcing him to explain what the hell he meant.

He shoved me to the ground, stood up, and looked down at me with a condescending gaze. His eyes were so cold, so merciless.

Fear gripped me, it seemed like I never knew him.

"Bitch, take a look at yourself in the mirror! How could you fantasize that anyone could accept you as a mate? I am the future Beta of the tribe, plenty of women are eager to get into my bed. Any one of them is much prettier than you, sexier than you, and more powerful than you. Why would I have any reason to accept you?" Disgust was written all over his face, and he immediately turned his head away, refusing to take a one more look at me.

"But, we are destined mates by the Moon Goddess. mates should love and protect each other unconditionally," I said, sitting up with my hands supporting me, tears streaming down my face.

"Hmph! It's pure bad luck for me to be mates with you. To tell you the truth, do you know why I make you turn your back on me every time we have sex? Because I don't want to see your ugly face!" He continued to say hurtful things to me.

"No, that's not true! You're lying to me! We've been together for 5 years, we've been together since I was 13 and I know you love me!" I shook my head frantically, unable to accept such a harsh reality.

"You're such a stupid woman!" He rolled his eyes at me, and right after that, he cleared his throat and said loudly to me, "I, Liam. Bruce, future Beta of the Bending Moon Tribe, reject you, Charlotte. Moore as my mate!"

Each of his words felt like a sharp dagger piercing into me. My world collapsed. My beliefs shattered. My heart ached terribly, as if he was squeezing it in his hands until it burst, even breathing hurt.

He stepped over me and walked towards the door. I hurriedly clung to his thigh, crying and begging him not to leave. I couldn't be without him; if he left, there was no longer any point in me living in this hell.

"Let go of me, you freak!" He kicked me hard a few times.

"No! I won't let you go!" I used all my strength to hold onto his leg.

"You're persistent, aren't you?" He glared at me with resentment. "Well then, let me tell you one more thing. I'm going to find Nora now, my girlfriend."

“You mean you've been cheating on me all the time?”I was a little bit bewildered.

“No, I haven't considered you as my girlfriend since two years ago. That's it.” He shrugged his shoulder and walked towards the door.

My heart plummeted instantly. His words echoed in my ears repeatedly. I released my grip, stood up, and felt dizzy; the world spinning around me.

"Wait, I have something for you," I stopped him.

"Make it quick," he impatiently said, his hand resting on the doorknob.

I walked to my bed, took out the silver knife I used for self-defense from under the pillow. I hid it behind my back, and approached him gently. The moment he turned around, I plunged the silver knife straight into his chest. Blood spurted out of his chest and splattered all over me. He looked at me with a bewildered gaze, then glanced down at the knife in his chest. His mouth opened, but he couldn't utter a word. The next second, he fell to the ground with a heavy thud.

He stared at me wide-eyed. Blood continued to pour from his chest, and soon, a small puddle formed on the ground.

My heart didn't ache anymore; it became numb. The moment Liam died, my heart died along with him.

I silently walked over to the dresser, crouched down, and kept grabbing the cake on the floor and stuffing it into my mouth. My life was just too bitter and all I wanted now was something sweet to eat.

Mom's footsteps came from outside the door and she knocked three times before opening the door. The doorway was blocked by Liam's body and the door couldn't be opened fully. Mom sidled into the room and saw me crouched on the floor naked with a mouth full of cake and then Liam lying in the doorway, she let out a scream before passing out.
