MasukI could feel all eyes on me the moment I took a seat on the dining table, Dale beside me and Nora on his other side.
The glares from his family was unmissable. One would think I'd stolen the most valuable thing from them with how they always addressed me. It was only his dad, Finn, and Dale's youngest sister, Tina, who didn't bother with one. They both didn't hate me, they just didn't care. Like Dale. But the rest let their hatred very evident. “Let's eat.” Finn spoke sternly, enough to let their eyes drift from me for a second. Just a second. “That might have been a lot easier if this filth wasn't sitting with us.” Sophie, his younger sister of four years huffed, hurling a glare my way. Well, here come the unnecessary drama that takes place every single family dinner. I had to resist an eye roll. Seriously, if it wasn't for trying to make Dale like me, then I most certainly wouldn't be taking a lot of shit they offered. His frown was still worn, bothering me further. Something really was wrong. “Sophie, this is not the—” “Oh please, it's not like she's wrong.” Amber, his mom, cut Tina off, her face in a sneer, then to me, “I don't see why my son left a perfect human like Nora, to go about feeding dogs and letting them live like lions.” My lips parted slightly. She just called me a dog. “Right?” Sophie had a lopsided smile on. “And he still brings this orphaned garbage to eat with us. If it were only Nora and her graceful—” “That's enough.” Dale stared up at them, expression plain, but cold. “No one must say any word about her again.” Him standing up for me brought a smile to my face. There most certainly would be love in there somewhere. Be it he was oddly colder that day or not, he would still have something for me. But my happiness vanished when Nora spoke. “Yeah, you guys should stop being so mean to her. She's my friend after all.” I had to bite my lower lip to stop a retort. She was enjoying being praised. That was obvious. “But Chloe,” she turned to me with that practiced feigned smile, “you too should learn not to embarrass us. Maybe I could give you some training on how to act later.” Oh this bitch. “Th—” “I said that's enough.” Dale spoke more sternly. But I was pissed, my internals boiling furiously. If I didn't leave then, I might possibly explode. “Please, excuse me. I have to use the ladies room.” With a small smile, I stood up, then left for the toilet, clutching my purse the entire way. “Nora, you asshole.” I huffed, quickly retrieving my phone, then dialing Emery, my sister's number. The only one I could confide in ever since our parent's death in an accident. She answered after the second ring. “Yello.” “You will need to talk to your boyfriend.” My cheeks were reddening. “Why?” “He had better snap some senses to Nora, because she's pissing me off and I'm not sure how long I'll be able to keep my cool.” Two years was enough, I wasn't sure if I could do more. “Woah, calm down. I'll talk to him, but what happened?” She replied. “She's here pissing me off, hugging my husband, and enjoying everyone calling me a dog, then she even as much as says she's going to give me some lessons.” I snorted. “Who wants lesson from a low-life hypocrite bitch like her.” I could see her frown from the voice call. “Don't you think maybe Dale should do something about that? His family can't keep on insulting you and he sits there listening.” “Oh no, he actually told them to stop.” “Oh-kay.” She sounded like she wasn't believing, but I was true though. “Well, if you want, you can come over to visit. I'm always available.” “Thanks, maybe I'll come tomorrow.” “And I'll be here.” After a few more minutes of talking, we said our goodbyes, then I hung up. Time to get back to my in-laws and Nora, who I'd have to get stuck with her fake sweetness. With a sigh, I left the toilet, then started towards the dining room. One thing I couldn't help but notice was how all the workers' eyes rested on me. I was used to being stared at by Dale's family, but never the workers. They still respected me regardless. But now, they stared at me like I'd done the most absurd thing, which was… very weird. Still, I said nothing, and just made my way to the dining room. “Ah, there she is!” Amber's loathe-filled voice greeted me once I was in, startling my feet to stop. “Huh?” I stared up at all the faces, glaring at me with fury, even Finn. Dale was nowhere to be found though, but the eyes on me made me wish he was here. “You bitch!” Sophie headed towards me, grabbing my arm in a grip so tight, I was only further surprised. “What's going on?” Someone needed to clear things up. “You money laundering shameless bitch!” She began pulling me with her. “Stop this!” Furious, I yanked myself free. “Will you tell me what the heck’s going on or just fuck off?” “It seems you've still got the wings to talk after everything.” She eyed me with disgust. One even more than she'd ever offered. “Oh, you want to know, right?” Amber scoffed, moving to stand in front of me. “Then, see this.” She pushed her phone to me. And my eyes widened the moment I stared at the screen. It showed a transaction from Dale's company to me, then another account. From what the phone read, I'd stolen twelve million dollars from his company. “And this.” She scrolled to the next photo. One that made me gasp. A photo… tons of them, of me with a guy, handing money to him. And the next was a voice recording. My voice, talking to some guy on how to get rid of Dale as soon as possible. “What the—?”I stared at him for a moment before stepping back slightly, my heart beating way too fast for its own good.“What frame are you talking about?” The words left lower than intended, but I managed to cover any hint of gruffness from my nervousness in them.“One of your mom, as I said.” He simply replied, and goodness, I just had to wonder if the way this guy made me feel was one-sided. “And a necklace. Something I'm sure would be better in your hands.”I couldn't agree more, and so, there I was, ten minutes later, sitting on the passenger's seat of his car and on my way to his house.A place I shouldn't be.This might be a dumb idea.In fact, it was one.Heading to my ex-husband's house in the night most certainly was dumb.I'd been making a lot of dumb decisions lately, so yeah. Also, my heart ached thinking of a memory of my parents. It always did. When he pulled over in front of his place, my heart warmed slightly as I stared at the exterior. It was exactly the same as where we used t
“How long have you been here?” Those were the first words that left my mouth, brows dipped the deepest. He strode over, stopping right in front of me with a face devoid of expression. “Long enough to know you and Cole aren't a thing.”I had to suck in a breath to prevent cussing, because seriously?Seriously??!!!How the heck could I seriously have been careless?Careless enough to scream something I was supposed to keep secluded.I didn't even want to know how Emery would react. Whatever her reason for keeping Donald, might end up in the open if I didn't do anything. She might actually suffer for it in the end.Obviously that was something I wasn't going to sit and watch happen, but I also wasn't going to be the most obvious person, so I asked;“Why are you here? What on earth are you doing in my neighborhood?” My hands flew to my hips. “Don't tell me you're actually stalking me now Mr Beldson.”A ghost of what looked like a smirk pulled up his lips. “Do I really look like I'd stop d
“That has to be one of the dumbest thing you've done Chloe.” Emery shook her head. “You really don't learn your lesson, do you?” At that point, I couldn't even say anything, because geez, I hadn't felt dumber. But of course, my pride was still in existence, because I rose to my feet, shoulders straightening. “Why do you guys act like it's so much of a big deal?” I rolled my eyes. “It's just us staying in the same country, but different hotels, different space and likely little time we'll have to see each other. So all your worrying is just proving to be unnecessary in case you don't know.” “Right—” “It's okay.” I cut her off, already making my way to my room. “This is something I don't want to discuss any further. Drop it.” Her cheeks bloomed, but she didn't say any more, instead scoffed and was off to her room, while I went to mine. Angry at myself, but not ready to dwell on that, I left all forms of work needed and just went straight to bed. ~ When I woke up, it was already
~ Chloe ~I had to bite my lower lip to prevent the cuss word about to erupt, as I strode out of the meeting, Kanyin beside me.That didn't at all go as planned. Not at all.It was supposed to be my way of reminding him of my position and how many great ideas I could come up with that would let him know this wasn't that dumb Chloe he knew three years ago.Of course, I'd succeeded in that part. But the avoiding him own…That, I did not— at all— succeed in, because here I was, probably going to be in another country with him, both of us foreseeing a project. What the heck was wrong with me?I'd have refused it when he'd offered, but just the thought of him figuring out I was obviously trying to avoid him, pissed me off to the bones.I couldn't at all imagine that happening. And so I'd done the dumbest thing… I'd agreed to travelling all the way to another continent.Far away from everyone else. And to a foreign land, where I will be alone with him.*“What the heck?!” Emery's eyes widen
“Seventy five percent?” One of the partnering CEOs, a bald man possibly in his fifties, exclaimed. “If it flops, it could lead to a high loss ma'am.” A guy with graying hair (though he looked no more than thirty) shook his head.“Too much you're placing at risk.” The guy beside me interjected, brows furrowed. “Flopping would mean dragging us down the mud.”“That's just stupidity if you asked me.” Another said, a red haired female with a gown too tight, I wondered if she could breath in it.Instinctively, I was about to stand up for Chloe, when she spoke, “which is why I didn't ask your opinion, Miss Sanalvi.”The red haired, now known as Sanalvi, stared wide-eyed, obviously shocked by the retort.Even I was surprised. Certainly the good type though. My eyes stayed glued to my ex-wife, watching how she stood, composed, shoulders straightened, head held high, chest puffed slightly.Damn, this woman was not backing out any second from now.And my goodness, I'd be a goat if I didn't admi
~ Dale ~It was exactly three days after my engagement when Rita let me know there was a meeting being held by Chloe, involving all her partnering company CEOs.She had let me know it wasn't anything compulsory and I could refuse it if I wanted to.A part of me knew the smart thing to do was refuse it. Especially after my engagement. But the other part— the dumb part— decided to choose otherwise, and instead offered a curt nod to my secretary, letting her know I was in with the idea.Which I shouldn't be.Either way, here I was, three days later, at the back seat of my car, on my way to her company. This was obviously a dumb idea, but yeah, I was still going to do it.Rita was beside me, doing whatever work she knew to do.Ten minutes later, the car came to a halt so we got down.Smoothly, my legs strutted in with Rita beside me.As expected, my presence commanded attention.Eyes glanced my way occasionally, before they bowed. Some had theirs in awe, as I headed to the receptionist wh
